I've been trying to get the RC community into FPV since 2020. It's still shocking to me how much resistance there is to ground FPV. The experience is just so much more fun in my opinion.

Re the bouncy camera: I've had a lot of success using 2 and 3 axis brushless gimbals based on the storm32 gimbal controller. Stabilizes your view and has inputs for rc connections for pan and tilt etc. Won't lie its hard to make it run well. But it can work and makes off road a lot more fun. Whether you have a gimbal or not the best first step to take is to build up off the chassis and mount your camera system extremely solidly. For fpv the Trx4 is an excellent choice! Also your slash 2wd can be a very smooth runner, one of my favorites for sure. As a guy that only does ground fpv its very exciting to see you dive into this! Cheers!

I have one of those. It's easy to take an old prop to use as a mount and put it inside where it's safe from roll overs. I'm pretty rough on mine, driving on rock features and crashing. I found it was also helpful to tape a stick on top that extends over the hood and put a string with a weight on it since you have no sense of angle. and I've thrown a bunch of upgrades at it. A hobbywing axe motor gets mine to about 30mph compared to the stock 11mph.

Put a 1w vtx on my 1/10 about 2 months ago and was great except the vibration. Put small cam/vtx on the 1/24 scale crawlers for the kids and due to the slower speeds the vibration isn't so bad and works fantastic!

I've been doing this for a couple of years with cheap analog camera/transmitters from Ali Express. Hopefully now that it seems popular, people much smarter than me will figure out a gimbal system that will stabilize or automatically keep camera level. It is hard to see straight when my truck is doing over 50mph.
    Also, headtracking would be dope

I've got a couple RC4WD crawlers. The Gelande 2 is on a linked coilover suspension that I modified for a particularly smooth and realistic ride quality. It could be a good candidate for this. I've kind of always wanted to do that. Might have to get another body to modify and place the camera in the cab. I'd probably have to pick up DJI though. HDZero is kinda overkill when latency almost doesn't matter.

I hate climbing down there when I have to repair a pipe or just inspect things. 1/10th scale tires are a little small, but they sell adapters to put on 1/8th scale wheels. I also widened the stance of it with wheel spacers. In case anyone wondered how such a vehicle would work for this job, it works great.

I did a little narrated rip with my Traxxas TRX-4m a couple months ago on this very subject! it's so fun! Now we just need to wait until real-time stabilization is developed to put it on faster rigs. I also (not FPV, 2020/21 when I started creating) mounted a GoPro on my Traxxas MAXX and stabilized the video in post for much smoother video. But yea, it is a hell of a good time driving these around. Now put a better control link on it and use that new RadioMaster MT12 with a LR protocol like TBS or ELRS and then you can get further, crawlers don't need a strong link because most are controlling it in close proximity. Great vid!

I know it's not ideal, but I have some small PC fans! I'm going to see if any fits a 20x20 stack! 😃
The difference is that I'm building it with 2 sheets, one on the bottom and other on the top, using brass standoffs. So, I'm going to need to make a hole in the top part as well!

Silly thing that I made on mine: I took a busted AIO FC (esc fried), and used that as the vtx. That way I managed to repurpose an FC, and get some OSD on it!

For an off-road RC car you can upgrade the FPV experience by placing the camera on an alexmos gimbal. An extra 500mah lipo battery would be enough to power up this extra feature 😊

Great video!! 1 question.... how do you record ? Since on a drone you can set to auto record when you armed the motors... how do you go about telling the unit to record?

The goggles have an SD card that records DVR. You press records on the goggles.

Really cool :) would be interesting to see if ground vehicles become more popular for fpv, it should be possible to build some quite nice vibration absorbers

A gimbal might be overkill but it'd be sweet. On TikTok I've seen a lot of comical caravans of FPV RC car vids.

cameras cant focus fast enough its a blurry mess unsuitble for racing so close to the ground .. its not like a BIG go pro stuck on the roof then watching recording the live feed is terrible because cameras cant handle focus on the ground moving so fast camera tech transmitting is not good enough yet

@@roblapouple7552pairing a wide angle lens with small aperture and high ISO sensor makes focus irrelevant. Its pretty easy to accomplish.

I've been putting FPV cameras on "sleds" for years now. (I call em sleds, when the camera and vtx (and often a dedicated battery) are all on a self contained unit that I can strap to my rc cars and stuff. My favorite rc vehicle right now is a tiny 1:35 scale rock bouncer with a caddx ant and a tbs nano sized vtx. I drive it around the school where I work, into offices, classrooms around the halls. its a blast! - I had issues with the range of the control link, so I hacked my own expressLRS surface radio and flashed some pwm firmware to a elrs receiver. - Thankfully radiomaster has released a proper elrs surface radio which I just got last month. much better than the homebrew solution!

Idk why more folks wouldnt do this for racing scenarios… this would be AMAZING on a roadcourse or offroad/indoor…(or oval in the good old days of rc racing)

Because unlike when u upo high in air on a drone when the camera is inside the car not on the roof you are so low to the ground and the camera are not really that good the ground moves so fast and camera cant focus fast and its a blurry mess .. kinda sux tbh

I drive a full size vehicle every day but I don't fly a full size aircraft every day. That's what makes flying fpv so much better than vehicles. It allows me to see what flying is like. I like rc vehicles but just get bored quickly with them. Nice video. The only rc fpv vehicle that would be cool to me would be racing Formula one cars fpv on a track. That would be cool with the front tires in the fpv view.

I have been scouring the internet looking for a suitable mount for my Runcam Wasp/Link unit to sit on top of the Traxxas Rustler Ultimate. I've printed alot but still nothing works as good as I think this will. I am using the free connections, on my Traxxas, to run motor fans so I'll power the VTX using a 2s lipo I got laying around. Good Job. I think that I'll buy you a cup of coffee.

When i started doing fpv in 2014 one of the first things i did was hook up a irc 250 vtx and camera to my traxxas slash and it worked good on street but not dirt. then i got a traxxas summit a bit later and it was great since it has big tires and the option of 90mm of suspension along with 2 speed and locking diffs. Butter truck?..lol
