Let me disagree with a couple of your choices. The Minichamp... altough I also carry one, and it's been used and abused for some years now (6 to 8 years?) I believe the Manager is a better option, as it has one layer less, and only missing one blade (downgrading from 2 to 1) the spatula thing, and the orange peeler, which I've never needed. The Alox series are a joy to watch, show and use, but they all lack the tweezers, which is a big downsize. I totally agree with the Compact, best purchase ever, the one to carry always on, the one that solves 80% of my problems with only 20% of the size of the Swisschamp. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching and your thoughts! I love to hear what other people think and what they like 🔥🔥
I'm late watching this but the spatula is one of my most used tool. It's great for wedging under stubborn jar lids or as a minor pry for curved things. A slight lift and that lid is no longer a problem to open. I also sharpened the bottom part of the spoon and it's great for curved cuts. It's also a better flathead screwdriver than the ruler on larger screws that are tight. The orange peeler is my go-to for scraping off pricing labels and opening hard plastic packaging. It's also a good decent safe pull-cutter for cording and for scoring measurements on wood and plastic for further sawing. I almost never need to use my blades on my Mini Champ, keeping them clean nice and sharp, because of these two specific tools.
Hi from Brum. Yes, the compact is the best, but as a daily carry I have the Rambler. Has all I need while out and about. I replaced the toothpick with a fero rod.
Hey brother 🤘🏻 love the rambler too!
I see what you mean, but for me the combo tool is the reason I prefer the Clinber for EDC. After the 3rd beer, the combo tool is delicate to handle, so I prefer the regular cap lifter. I'm about to try out Pioneer X for EDC.
Pioneer X is fantastic
Great top five for urban carry 😎
The beauty of SAK’s is the variety of options, you can choose what ever suits your needs.
I think the compact is hard to beat in terms of tools offered and size / weight ratio.
Another great review, thanks Slippy 👍🏻
Well said!
Great video, Slippy. I carried an Economy Recruit daily for about 20 years. I now carry an Evogrip 11. SAKs are great EDC knives. Thanks for sharing, my friend.
Thanks for sharing Tom! I love victorinox knives that are perfect for any situation 🙏🏼
Great video Slippy! I didn’t realise the compact had the scissors and pen!
If only they did the compact with the Philips driver instead of the corkscrew!
And I love the Swiss champ Mini, I carry mine often at the weekends as a 5th pocket option.
Thanks for sharing buddy 🫡
Yes they do, for me it's the best SAK 💪🏼
I would so love a compact with the Philips driver!
Awesome vid man. Super cool to see all these! Makes me want another SAK 😂
You should!
the Compact is the best 2 layer 91mm SAK by far. Like I have been saying along with about every other EDC person. I only keep two 91mm SAK's and it's the black Compact and the 2017 White Christmas - Explorer that sits on my desk for the use of it's magnifying glass
I love my compact! It doesn't leave my edc pouch
Great list, you gave a pretty wide and versatile selection. I am partial to # 3 just because I love the Alox versions 🤣
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Jake, come to the dark side and buy more 👀
I totally agree, the compact is the best for lightweight urban EDC. Knife and Scissors on a 2 layer Victorinox, all thanks to the combo tool. Just like a Climber but 1 less layer. Really really Good.
Compact is king for sure 🫡
Excellent choices,👍 l've been becoming really attached to my SwissChamp since picking it up a few months ago, really like it. I also carry the Midnite manager daily. Having the little backup light and pen is nice. My others would be the Super Tinker, Compact and regular Classic SD 😉 Like that Electrician of yours, very nice 👍 Thanks for sharing
Great to hear!
I’m a massive Alox fan so my edc is the pioneer x Alox (couldn’t be without those scissors) and the Alox mini champ on my keys. That combo is spot on for me. I love how much more robust the tools feel on the pioneer and the sturdier back springs makes me feel much more confuse about not having a locking blade (UK laws prevent locking blade)
Me as well, I love the thickness of the blades you get with alox 💪🏼
A great list buddy! Y agree, the scissors make that one great.
You got that right!
I was carrying the Excelsior, its not one of the traditional 58/84/91 mm frames, and its only got 2 knife blades but its very sleek. I recently switched to the Alox Bantam and I think it's perfect. Incredibly thin with a knife blade and cap lifter it's perfect for my urban pocket edc. If I am carrying a back pack, or even a medium weight coat I will have a more substantial knife but when I'm traveling light, the Bantam is perfect.
It's all you'd ever need, such a great carry
My two favourites for ECD carry are the mini champ because for its size It holds a lot of useful tools
Or for a more normal size 2 layer knife a Spartan as it gives you the basics being the two blades opener set
Reamer and corkscrew and for a tiny extra price you can add a micro screwdriver in the corkscrew but if you the sort of person who didn't mind paying around £60.00 the mini champ lite
Would be a good option
Thanks for sharing brother
Nice those are great choices! I always have a Classic SD in my pocket!!
Awesome Mike! I carry one in my car keys every single day
Very nice choices, Slippy👌🏻
Personally I find I don't use the scissors, the blade can take care of most of my 'scissor-tasks'. Having said that, I do carry the Rambler in my fifth pocket everyday, which has the small scissors, usually combined with the 84 mm Sportsman.
The Sportsman is basically a Spartan but with a nailfile instead of the secondary blade.
I agree with you on the screwdriver vs corkscrew👍🏻
Good tip! Thanks Ron
Nice selection,
I'd jump up one layer to the explorer as i find the inline philips really good and being at the wrong end of my 40's the magnifying glass 🔍 is starting to come in useful 🧐
Not that i need a "gentleman's " carry but i do have an onyx black edition Spartan if i need to keep things classy 😉
Cheers 🍻
Explorer is Definitely a favourite of mine as well! I'd probably put it 6th 👀
Great job! Ive been watching a lot of your videos lately. Im a serious sak fan. But im new to slip joint knives in general. I would add the alox cadet to your line up here. But thats me. Great video! Thank you!
Thanks for the sub! And thank you for watching
@@SlipjointSawyer my pleasure. Ive been watching a lot of your videos this week. You post great stuff!! Onward!
Good video, appreciate you explaining why you chose each one. I agree with your choices except would put the Signature Lite instead of the Recruit. The small light on this lets me skip wearing a dedicated flashlight. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing!
many years ago, I switched out my mini champ for the manager. The manager contains the only tools I ever used on the mini champ and it’s quite a bit smaller.
Thanks for watching
@@SlipjointSawyer and thank you for making these videos. I know it takes an awful lot longer than the duration of the video to make it a quality video.
@@fivevs1 🖤
My five favorites: Victorinox Fieldmaster (jack of all trades); Victorinox Rambler (love that weird tool that's only on 2 other Victorinoxes), Victorinox Explorer (Phillips at end), Victorinox Alox Farmer X (elegant and heavy duty), and Victorinox Outrider (big and beefy). I also love my new white Victorinox Climber! I own 23 Victorinoxes!
That's awesome, I probably have a similar number if not more 😂 I'm obsessed
I still use my grandfathers original little SAK he got in the 1960s. The little knife is a nub but razor sharp. I use it like five times a week. The scissors still work great and I file my nails with it after I clip them.
Unreal this 60 year old $4 tool is still not just useful, but something I depend on.
That's awesome brother 🔥🤘🏻
Late to the party, I think these were great choices, I think I would switch the tinker for maybe the mountaineer I know it’s 4 layers but adding metal saw/file with 2 Philips at the end for extra 3mm seems worth it.
Good choice
Great picks!
Now I need a Compact😅
For this category I'd probably reach for my Signature Lite, Solo Alox or Bantam. Thanks Slippy!🍻
Thanks for watching MiMo 💪🏼
All nice options. The Electrician alox and a Rambler would make a great combo with very little redundancy.
Yes indeed!
Yep you're right, the Compact might be the best of the lot for EDC. Victorinox are awful proud of this one given the price. Thanks, Slippy.
No doubt! Thanks for watching John 🙏🏼
A good variety. My favourites are Recruit/ Tourist, (with can opener mod is a must ),Spartan, Angler. I am unusual in that I rarely use the scissors or even the saw , which I have in the farmer and huntsman . I find the Recruit is almost perfect in that supper simple very pocket friendly and the small blade with practice can cover most scissors work , I never miss it .
The Angler (with plus scales) is a step up when a pliers is extra useful.
However my swiss champ lives in the drawer, if I got used to it from the start I probably wouldn't have bothered with all the rest ?
Thanks for watching Rob 😊
Nice line up and review. Almost went for the compact, but plumpted for tinker as swiss card in wallet covers the pen, file etc. Still lust after compact regardless :)
Thanks for sharing!
the Yeoman is awesome but way over priced to get one now. It's basically a Compact with an extra layer that has the magnyfying glass and the inline phillips screwdriver. They only made them for a handful of years
I overpaid for a Yeoman about a year ago. I replaced the scales with clear blue Plus Scales and it looks great! And there is no way I can justify the money I spent. But I like the knife so...yah.
2017 L.E. White Christmas Explorer is where it's at and you get a few more things from it and I got it for $50@@ke6nber
@@MrPsiman
I do have an Explorer. Yellow Plus Scales on it. It was gifted to me for my 50th Bday last year.
Great knife! And, for me, free!
@@ke6nber If it stays with you long enough and you actually end upbusing it, you won't even have to justify the purchase
Nice selection. i carry a Spartan every day. I added a nano clip to the key ring so it will be Vertical in my pocket but i have nerve pain issues and with the clip i never know its there. 🦉
Very nice!
The compact bottle cap multitool tip can also be used as Phillips screwdriver.
Thanks for the tip
Solid choices! Cheers, buddy!
Thank you kindly!
All good choices for office or shop workers ! But When I worked in Grounds Maintenance ( usually in an urban enviroment ) , I found the Huntsman to be ideal. Could you do a top 5 for people who do outdoors work in an urbam enviroment ? Some people may find that helpful. 🙂
Thanks for the tips! Will look into it
@@SlipjointSawyer If you prefer the Tee handle Phillips driver, look a the Fieldmaster. It is a toss up which is better, but I think the corkscrew is more versatile, plus the can opener tip fits a #2 Phillips screw. The Fieldmaster is the standard issue for Boy Scouts in the U.S. (they wouldn't want to encourage them to take up wine drinking, beer in a bottle is good enough).
Waiting on a Wenger SD. My main use for regular medium SAKs is as a sort of med kit tool for removing thorns, splinters, cutting band aids/bandages ect. An SD would do this as well as a medium and wouldn't take up much space in the med kit. I'll get a regular Victorinox SD though and put the Wenger aside so I have at least one nice Wenger in the collection.
Awesome stuff thanks for watching 😃
Well, at least my favorite SAK, the Super Tinker is in your Top 5 list, so that gets a 👍from me buddy! I think all of your choices are great, btw. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!
Good choice! Thanks Dave
Great Fab Five Swiss values. Thx SlippyS.
Glad you like them!
I’m shocked, nay saddened, to not see the Waiter! It has all the functionality of the recruit without the redundancy. Plus it has 3 more tools (corkscrew with the possibility of the mini screwdriver and pin) all on one less layer for +/- £1! 😮
Sorry I missed that one out
@@SlipjointSawyer That’s okay. I’m sure you’ll remember next time. It’s not like I’m obsessed with the Waiter. You could do a special video about it and then delete all of your other Victorinox videos anddeclareittheoneandonlyRULEROFALLTHESAKS!
Ahem. Sorry. Got a bit carried away there 🤣
@@corbenj 😂😂😂
😂😂@@corbenj
I keep going back to my Pioneer X. All the tools I use. I will likely get a Farmer X soon.
Good choice!
I have been carrying the climber for a few years and by far the most used tools on it for me are the large blade and scissors. I want to move to something slimmer. I just need Victorinox to give me an Alox with just a large blade and scissor and I would be happy. Kind of considering just going to a classic sd on my keychain for the scissors and just a pocket knife.
Awesome stuff brother, Thanks for watching
The frustrating thing about Victorinox knives is that there is no one model that has everything you want and ONLY what you want. That's obviously subjective but most of us want very similar things. The closest knife that has all good and no bad for me is the Rambler. The only problem with it is that it's only 58mm so the knife is small. I would replace your Minichamp with the Rambler for a single knife on my keychain. I would relace your Electrician with the Cadet. I prefer it's tools and it has a keychain ring.
For me, I wanted to have all the major tools together on my keychain. So my solution was two knives - the Cadet and the Jetsetter. And together they are still not that heavy.
I know exactly what you mean, there are loads of model of consider near perfect but with the odd tool I don't need or use, have you tried customising?
I've been carrying a fieldmaster lately. Great knife!
Awesome 💪🏼
I’ve heard that in a pinch, you can use the corner of the Compact’s combo tool as a Phillips head.
100%
I would've added the Bantam. Really good for just 1 layer. I just miss the scissors.
It's one I carry a lot as well 🙏🏼
If you miss the scissors, then it should not be on your list, neither in the one in the video.
if the compact just have that screwdriver from super tinker it definitely going to be the best, that why the cheaper super tinker still more complet for me, but for two or three layers of tools set you can't go wrong any ways.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Hey there, ich stimme absolut zu. Ich sammle auch schon eine lange Zeit die Taschenmesser von Victorianox , aber mein tägliches Urban EDC ist und bleibt das Compact ! Grüße gehen raus an alles Compact Fans !
Good man! I love the compact
I also don’t drink so I’d much rather have that Phillips driver. Great look at these SAK’s!!
Right on Jer 🙏🏼💪🏼
Five great choices, so hard to pick favorites in the SAK world but you did a great job. Thanks Matt!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The Spatular tool you refered to one mini champ, could that be a cuticle pusher for nail care ? Possibly ?
I think it may be you know
Slippy can't fault saks exellent value and last well my favourite pattern is like a champ is jelly red i love the colour but has less tools I keep in my edc first aid half ounce baccy tin as I'm always in woods foraging for branches to carve my other favourite is my woodsman with walnut scales on has exellent saw you should get the walnut scales sak 🐾🦊🇮🇹👍
Thanks for watching John 💪🏼🙏🏼
@@SlipjointSawyer np much enjoyed your content 🐾🦊🍻
A good choice is Classic or Ambassador plus Tourist (Spartan, Pioneer) or even better Rambler plus Tourist (Spartan, Pioneer)
Awesome choices
Happy new year 🥳
Happy new year!!
I'm surprised this list does not include the Bantam, a true EDC keeper for its lightness, functionality and simplicity.
Also, may I give you one suggestion? I've noticed -and I'm sure many others have- that the pen is made to sit perfectly in the slot of tools like the corkscrew/awl/screwdriver, making it very comfortable to use 😎
Awesome tip thanks brother 🙏🏼
Slippy I only own the electrician out those five!
My most used tool on most SAK's is the small blade, closely followed by the scissors.
Keep up Mikey 😜👀

@@SlipjointSawyer 😁😁😁
My Top/Favorite 5 would be, in no particular order:
The Compact.
The Ranger.
The Rambler.
The Midnite Manager.
The Super Tinker.
Two Honorable Mentions; my Plus-Scaled Climber and The Explorer.
Awesome choices!
Nice selection
Thanks CC appreciate it
Rambler in pocket with keyes and handyman in edc bag 😊
Awesome!
THANK YOU 🌲🌲🌲
You are so welcome!
the Alox Electrician and the electrician blade have been around since arround 1964
Can always count on you 🙏🏼💪🏼
Based on everything I've seen in the vid I have a suspicion that if there was a Waiter with either a parcel hook or a screwdriver in place of the cork screw, it would've made the cut as well
It was soo hard for me to pick😂
Too bad they discontinued the Manager which is my number one choice for urban EDC to this day. It's like the MiniChamp but without the 3 kinds of blades and the spoonlike tool which is a big deal since there's not much space on keychains in general. The closest thing to it nowadays is the Midnite Manager (if you can live without tweezers and have an LED instead).
Thanks for watching 🫡
I can’t believe you’ve done this!! 😂😂😂
👀😂
Oh and i subscribed 🦉
🙏🏼
I just wished they made a Compact but replaced the corkscrew with a Philips head screwdriver. I don't wear glasses so don't care about the little screwdriver bit. Trying to use the combo tool to undo a phillips head screw is so tedious. Painfully slow.
Exactly why I had a custom one made
I don’t like the combo tool much, except on the Waiter, so it’s SuperTinker for me.
Great choice
IS THE PIONEER X GOOD FOR EDC??
Yes! It's perfect for EDC
The Super Tinker is my EDC.
Awesome
Sportsman, Cadet, and Climber for my top 3
Perfect
What is a tuf pick ?
Tooth pick 😂 it's my accent
A pen? What if when it runs dry?
Pick up a replacement from victorinox 🙏🏻
I just brought Victorinox compact £36.49. Amazon.
Amazing
@@SlipjointSawyer yes thank you! I thought it was a pretty good deal, it's my new EDC. The Explorer plus was just a little too big
The clam shell tool is actually an orange peeler
Ooo I never knew that 🙏🏼
@@SlipjointSawyer although I do think they should rename it to package opener. Works great for it
Ich würde den Waiter statt den Recruit vorziehen da man im Korkenzieher den kleinen schraubendreher reintun kann und die nadel.
Thanks for watching, appreciate it, I can read German but struggle to type it 🫡
Super tinker is all you need in a lifetime
You're not wrong 😂
supper tinker
Excellent choice
I dig the cocaine spoon on the little one
👀
Only Huntsman.
Thanks for watching
Explorer
Good choice
Spatula tool 🫣 let's be honest it's a cocaine spoon for doing bumps on the go 😜.
Shhhh 👀😂
