One trick I've never seen is using the hook to fish out a drawstring that has gone inside the garment. I've had occasions when I washed sweat pants or something when the drawstring got into the channel. You can push the hook in, scrunching up the fabric as necessary, and hook the hook behind the knot in the drawstring and pull it out.

Majority of these trips are rubbish:
1 pass the string over whole tool, let string dangle between fingers
2 clamp pen behind any other tool
3 magnets can be stored near the corkscrew
4 use other pegs or cork screw
5 use flat head screw driver as lever
6 use can opener as hook
7 cut away the frailed bit with knife of scissors
8 eyelet in wire can be made round other tools, but I must admit, the hook would work the best, non the less, I've never needed making an eyelet in with
9 use your wallet to prop your phone up
10 twist hook screw, use another tool as lever
11 tension spring - ok, maybe, but really how often?
12 mount chain - fraid I'm gonna get some grease on two of my fingers
      13 modification - dunno what's that for

They never stopped being great. People just got caught up in the multi-tool (pliers) hysteria.
Don't get me wrong, I like them. But they are better suited for use in civilization. I'm not a fan of using them as a "survival"camping tool. They're bulky, holding them in extreme cold is EXTREMELY unpleasant, and they're heavy. I know I know, only a few ounces. Just take it from a thru-hiker and survivalist. They're heavy.
Pliers actually do come in handy for both camping and survival uses. They allow you to make extremely tight knots, crack nuts...... um.... hmmm... nevermind, they suck for camping/survival. LOL..
They don't, really. They have their place in a survival kit/bug out bag, but they get more use as a camping tool. The SAK is lighter, easier to find if you set it down on a wooded area and lost track of it, and they do everything a multi-tool can, except for take requiring a pair of pliers.
I just buy a mid-range pair at a home improvement store, needle nose, and Todd them into the bottom of my backpack. For any circumstance where you REALLY NEED a pair of pliers, the multi told fall short. If rather have a full size pair off pliers that are NOT held together with two scrawny stainless steel pins.

My father is a Geologist, and in his field work he often used the hook to grab barbed wire and pull it apart so he could cross (with the property owners's permission, of course). I've used it sometimes to tighten knots, with a bowline on the loose end I could make a very strong and tight hitch or lash.

I remember being told it was used by postmen to carry heavy boxes at the time here in Switzerland all boxes needed to be tied also with a string.
A heavy box could really cut in your skin and that's when Victorinox came up with this hook to transform the knife in a carrying handle.
Now we don't tie our boxes up with string and this use has been forgotten.

Newspapers also used to be bundled with string and this made it easy to carry instead of having thin strings cutting into fingers.

LOL of course you can live without it. Plenty of people do. The point is, if you have one on your knife anyway, how can it make your life easier? If you choose not to get any benefit from it, that's on you.

Cool video Felix, I knew most of them but the cell phone holder was new and cool, when you are carrying the wood bundle you can put the hook closer by using a half hitch :-) I'm keen for next one to see what you do with the modified tip.

I find the hook to be one of the most interesting tools on the Swiss Army Knife. As somebody that does a lot of camp cooking they’re great for Bush pot handles when they’re hot, I also like to carry firewood with them. Our use the pen technique quite often on my compact. Going to try the magnet thing I have lots of those tiny magnets.
