This was a blast! I took apart my trusty Victorinox/ Swiss Army Knife Compact and made it something more. After three years of carrying and two years of dreaming my Compact has leveled up. Through some workshop know how and a bit of elbow grease I made custom micarta scales and replaced the Parcel hook with a philips head screwdriver. In my mind this has made this Compact the best in pocket EDC tool out there! I hope you enjoy the process. Remember, cut once, measure twice. Catch you on the next one!

Of course I’ll see this video! Hahaha that Parcel hook is a stain on the compact. So pumped you peaced it out!! Epic work!
I will say, you CAN use the parcel hook to pull a chain back onto a bike without getting your hands dirty :)
Dude! Thanks for checking it out. Truth on the parcel hook and bike chain. I always wanted to try and use it as a hook for zip line too😁. Compact Brothers unite!
Great to see these updates to the Compact. I’m trying other EDC options because I don’t have the skills or tools to do what you guys do. But I am missing it 🤔
I've become attached to the nail file on the back of the hook!
And to fish out a chain traped in the wheel.
Cool AF to see my favorite Photographer posting in one of my other favorite communities!
Thanks for watching! Let me know what you think down below👊.
I have done so, have a box of Kleenex or medicinal brandy on hand when you read my critique!
Glad your back
Very cool video! Just a small tip, the corcscrew is also very useful for untying strong knots or popping off something like a broken stud that's no longer connected to the fabric and such extremely difficult to remove (something I had to do in my last ski holidays). It has a lot more usecases than you might think!
So, I don't know If you resharpened the corcscrew tip, but it might be worth it.
Dude, love the video! You are amazingly good at talking THROUGH the camera like talking to a best friend. You are genuine through and through, and that’s why we love you. Not only do you walk us through your modding steps and explain your engineering pivots when you hit roadblocks (life always has them!), but I also learned from your pro tips. Dirty hands = clean money! 👊👊
Thanks man! This one was a bit longer but glad you dig it! I’d have everyone come hang out and make stuff in my shop if I could👊
@@zacinthewild it was "long" but there wasn't any goofy fancy jump cuts and the pacing was good and your camera angles and lighting was really good too the fact your not turning your shop into a studio is refreshing. Don't be shy to document other builds I know there are plenty of us who are interested in many aspects of making/modifying things that every one of your videos will be watched. If you havent already go check out Adam Savage's Tested channel and his one day builds alot of good information and techniques I'm sure you could use in his videos.
Completely agree with you about this 👍
You can't help but smile at this guy's enthusiasm - so infectious!
For EDC I actually prefer the Pioneer with alox scales.
But for backpacking and camping I take the Huntsman - the hook is great for taking hot pots with a wire handle off the fire and the core screw can be used as a marlinspike plus it can hold a fire ant tinder and steel. Totally under rated tools.
This is what CZcams should be! You killed it man. Sharing your passion and doing it in the right way. You’ve inspired me today. I’ve felt lack luster and this video is what it’s all about and frankly, what I needed. Thanks bro. You’ve showed me that every obstacle is an opportunity and I am forever grateful. Cheers.
It's so nice to see this taking place by hand and not a cnc. I appreciate it, the work, the craft and the time cheers 🍻
Happy to see ya again, haven’t really watched the blade hq stuff since ya left
It's the same as customised motorbikes: it's not the big bucks custom from a shop that interests me, but rather the shed built custom where the mods reflect the owner and their ingenuity to achieve something with the tools they have available to them. Good job!
Got to admire what you did turned out well.
Great video! Glad to see you're still around, enjoying life, making fantastic content, and doing cool stuff. Keep up the stellar work!
Thanks for the encouragement! Will do🤙
This may have been suggested already, but if you ever watch David C Anderson on The Knife Center's videos, the use he has found the corkscrew to be handy for is the removal of especially stubborn knots... otherwise he's like everyone else when it comes to that tool and finds no other use for it.
ps. It's good to see you again!!! This video just randomly appeared in my CZcams thread this morning and couldn't have been more excited, you have been missed! All is right in the world again. 😎
Untying knots is a widely known use for the corkscrew. David C Anderson really didn't "find" that use himself.
@@BornIn1500 Correct, he did not... I was just citing the individual I found out the information from, since I knew nothing of the corkscrew being used as a Marlinspike before hearing it on one of his videos. Thanks though, for pointing that out👍🏽
Great to have you back!!! Cool hack
I would not have been able to figure that out. Thank you for this video and the great walk-through, and congratulations on the epic results!
So glad this channel exists. Watched the whole video. Inspired me to pick up a compact
Your excitement is intoxicating, great video
Feels good to have you bac 👌🤘💯
Excellent job. Micarta just looks and feels SO much better than plastic. Great job with the freehand work.
Completely agree! The freehand came out much better then expected😁
'm so happy to find you again!
The compact is the perfect life of you cut out the parcel hook, add storage for other tools, and replace the scales. Perfection. 😅
So many happy memories as a kid playing with a victorinox, you uave inspired me to go pick a new one up
Nice DIY project. I love the Conan reference on the wall :)
Conan is the man! That was my license plate for years⚡️🤘
Love it - Been a Compact Fan forever Best EDC SAK Hands down.
Zac you've sold me brother! Went out and bought a compact a month ago and have been absolutely loving it! Keep up the amazing work man 👊
Dude u did it! I remember u always wanted to put a phillips head driver on ur SAK! Knife modder expert! 👍✌
I’m so stoked on it. Glad you found the video🤙
Man this video was awesome. You are right the compact is by far the best Swiss Army knife I love mine. Your videos are great and can’t wait for the next one. Keep rocking man!
Awesome video - for anyone wanting to work with micarta, especially if you don't have a well ventilated area, wear a respirator! Micarta dust is super toxic!
Like the “by Crom” vanity plate!
“What is best in life?”
To crush your enemies see them driven before you and hear the lamentations off their women💪😁
Great to see ya' back! You have the berring of a natural educator. Great stuff.
That’s very kind! Thanks for checking it out👊
I love these dyi videos from you man feels like I’m in the shop working with a buddy on a dope project
This turned out so good! I love moding SAKs myself but I've never seen someone replace the parcelhook with a philips screwdriver before. It's a really cool upgrade for the compact, even better than changing corkscrew and screwdriver like I did. Take care and have a great day
Great job. And it's good to see you on the Tube again.
Love this mate, love the micarta scales n think the addition of a screwdriver is a great idea
Very nice job !!!
Love the Victronox even the custom ones !!! GREAT !!!
King of DIY. Killing it bro. Awesome video
Yep I agree dude super awesome modification. I also love micarta 👏👏👏👏
I’m impressed!
Corkscrew is perfect for undoing knots. I use it to fix my kids shoe laces weekly. Great video!
This got me to chance my scales on my old Mechanic. Thanks for the video helped out a lot.
This was a really satisfying and fun video to watch!
I'm so happy to see you making videos again. I miss seeing you on BHQ with your wonderful energy. Knife videos, repair videos, whatever...
It's good to have you back sir.
👊⚡️
You did what I always dreamed of doing !!! I love the compact and I always thought it would have been perfect if he had had a screwdriver instead of the hook !!! Well done!!!
Wow ! Fantastic!that's brilliant I love my compact and this takes it to a new level 👏
Love Peter and love his videos but I love the way your doing yours. Keep the corkscrew. Great video. Thank you.
Wow Zac I’m so glad you were finally able to not only attempt this amazing mod, but you also killed it!
I was over the moon with how it turned out! Lady Luck was on my side for sure😁
Awesome project!
Amazing work brother! im glad you're making videos again
Happy to see you back
Happy to be back👊
Yo Zac, you knocked it out of the park. I love micarta scales and the job you did is absolutely epic.
Thanks for the video my Bladed Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲
Super duper cool dude! Glad to see you post a vid!
Yeah I would get rid of the parcel hook. Because I only use it as a bale hook when I’m taking stuff on and off of a fire. But I can use either the bottle opener or the can opener for that. I carry a camper and tinker as opposed to a compact.
That's a great looking handle. Thank you for sharing!!!!
I like your Moon hubcaps and Rat Fink stickers. I sill have the green Rat Fink that I got out of a gumball machine in the 1960s. You showed a lot of patience with that knife.
Nice too see ya back zack!
That was great! I was stoked to see you back on CZcams. And I was really excited to see a video that involved micarta on a Victorinox; I've been dreaming about doing this to my Victorinox Fieldmaster for a long time. This was just the inspiration I needed to give it a go! Yours looks great, by the way!
Glad it got you inspired! Please send me some pics when you get it done. Would love to see it👊
Awesome build!
Why can’t somebody make these? I’d buy a pair in a heartbeat!
Great to see you again man, I remember you mentioning this project a while back and I’m glad you got it done. Really like to see another knife collection video from you. Take care.
For sure will do a knife collection video in the future.
@@zacinthewild and maybe do it live?
Wow! I'm really late to the party as far as watching the video but am so glad that I took the time to do so today. You did a fantastic job on this and it had to take extreme patience especially when it came to the freehand elements of it. Once again GREAT job! Zac, you're the man!
Zac! Man! It is so great to have you back!!!
Great to be back!
It looks great good to see you back on CZcams
Great content man. Glad to see you rockin on the videos again!
Finally! Been waiting for this since BHQ days! Good job Zac!
Glad you dig it!
The corkscrew is amazing at undoing knots!
Love your enthusiasm! Makes me want to do some customizing too.
That was great. Especially for stumbling into your channel for the first time. Blessings
Welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.
Love your respect towards not wasting material. Micarta is a way better material for grips. Great upload.
Welcome back! You've talked about changing out that hook forever, and that micarta looks sweet 👍
Thanks! It seemed like the right project to get things rolling again😁
So good to see you back!
Glad to be back! More videos on the way🤘
Great Job man!!!
Dude, so glad you’re back! Sweet project!
👊
After watching this, I have an even greater appreciation for Victorinox. By the way, great work!
Thank you!🙏
Zac! Good to see you making videos agaiN!!!!
Great Video! Solid work too i know you've been talking about wanting to do this for a WHILE now!
You are an absolute stud! Turned out amazing!! Can’t wait to see how that wears in 🤘🏼
Thanks! I’m excited to see how it holds up too!
I know this video is two months old and you already made it but this might help other people. I've replaced the scales on a couple sak's and it helped to use the old scales as a stamp. You can ink them similar to how you would a rubber stamp and then transfer that onto the new scale material. Not perfect by any means but it works well if you want to make your own custom scales and still have the scale implements in the factory positions. Also, if you're transfering to micarta, it helps to scuff the surface so the ink can penetrate.
I’ve been waiting so long for this! I remember you first saying you wanted to do this and I almost thought you forgot about it! Looks great!
Just waiting for the right time. I am sooo stoked on how it came out!
Awesome work bud looks great
I love the toothpick! much better than those thick wooden ones.
Stoke you are back at it with content creation.
Dude thats awesome
Good to see you again
Glad to be back🤘
Great video and great result
My ultimate, and favorite Victorinix, would be the huntsman, but with pliers.
Great job dude! Awesome!
The huntsman is like the center of balance in the SAC world IMO. Love it. A file would be cool, AKA the Ranger, and that's where the price jumps.
WOW your back, I got a compact knife because of your recommendation from your Blade HQ days and I love that knife. I replaced my mini screw driver with a fire ant ferro rod in my cork screw. Great to see this video.
great video, cool knife, you're the man zac. keep it up
Really great vid! Very informative as well.
Totally and completely BAD ASS AWSOME. YOU THE MAN .
Thanks! It turned out way better then I thought it would🤣
@@zacinthewild I sure woulden mind calling that mine
Tip for transferring the inner side of the scales: Lay the scale on the desk upside down, lay a paper on the scale and color it with a pencil. That way you will get a pinpoint accurate imprint of it then stick it on the micarta and rock&roll… ;)
Honestly so much smarter. Didn’t think about it until half way through🤦♂️
That was pretty cool man! Really like these type of projects!
i was squinting when you cut the micarta on the table saw, waiting for kickback the whole time! Great content Zac! 🤙🏼🇺🇸
Good to have you back buddy
Good to be back! Thanks for following along.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this video. I haven't watched Blade HQ videos since you left.
I love it Zac!! Suga’h Bea’h now has the best multi tool I’ve ever seen!
That’s right Tiger😎
Like the cleverness in your idea! Nicely done. Now you just need some diamant pouder to glue the nail file back on the screw driver^^
Was a lot of fun to watch you Micartastein the Compact. It's a beauty. Cheers my dude. Looking forward to more content.
Thanks! I might have to steal that name from you…😁
@@zacinthewild go for it homie. I'd be honored if you used it.
Hi Zac, loved your enthousiasm since the Blade HQ days. Glad to see you here! Great work on that one. I've owned SAK since I was 10. I've never noticed there was a pin hole near the cork screw. Thanks on this one!
It’s kind of a secret for sure. Most models have the hole but not all of them come with the pin. Glad I could be helpful!😁
Awesome video my friend, all about this one!!!💪💯
Thanks for checking it out buddy!
💥💥🔥👍 great vid man - SOLID build - stoked ur back doin vids -- keep it up man 🍻
I purchased mine because of the parcel hook. It’s a life saver for me on every wet and cold camping trip. I swapped the mini screw driver in the corkscrew for fire ant because there are no screws to tighten in nature. However, everyone has different requirements.
🙂
How come the hook is a life saver to you?
