Pakistan is dealing with the after affects of what Zia did. I think it’s important for people to find out the man behind the myth of ‘Zia Ul Haq’. A below average person, with persona of deception & deceit, a man who would kill (his role in quelling the rebellion in Jordan). Knowing that he wasn’t cut out for the top slot, he crafted his plan with absolute deception. Bhutto was an egotistical person, he knew Zia’s record in Jordan, and Zia missed no opportunity to prove his loyalty and servitude to Bhutto. Thus Zia laid a perfect trap for Bhutto.
The documentary does draw some parallels from history with the current situation, but the remarkable difference is the personalities of Bhutto & Imran are totally different and their path to power has a different trajectory. Although, I would say that Imran has tried to show himself as a person who will build a perfect Islamic welfare state, a slogan which suits well in Pak society. But, his opponents are a corrupt political mafia, which has global backing as well. What happened in Pakistan, couldn’t have been done without the blessings of outsiders. The only constant is that the Army’s role hasn’t changed. The same shenanigans of interfering with judicial system, manipulating the political system, and using the power of state to crush dissent and opposition. I am sure that few years from now, similar stories are going to come out about the people currently in power and how they ascended to highest ranks, but the question is: can Pakistan survive this kind of gross manipulation & absolute disregard for democratic norms. I think the country has a very narrow path to recovery, and that’s only possible if there is a realization on the part of the people who are in actual control of the country.

@@sasif89 I agree to some extent. Staying neutral I will do some comparisons between NS & IK.
NS was an unknown entity, and was launched by Gen Giillani. His ascent to power was incremental. First as the CM, where he had the opportunity to rule the biggest province. His family and him acquired tremendous amount of influence & wealth (not going to go into the controversy of how him and his family were able to amass such fortune over such a short period).
IK’s journey was very different. He was an icon and a celebrity to begin with. The establishment took a chance to bring him to power, because when you are dealing with an iconic figure, you are taking a chance that his fame might overshadow yours. A realization which kicked in right after he became the PM, and now we know that efforts were underway to remove him in 2019. They found out that he wasn’t going to go with the status quo. One such example is that IK was told by the then Army Chief that ‘corruption’ is not an issue!! Now it’s very clear that IK was not going according to their program.
What happened next is just history. Not a point of discussion here.
One must acknowledge that NS tried to assert the civilian supremacy, but he failed every time, but his sin was that every time he made a ‘deal’, which literally annulled his efforts and perpetuated establishment’s grip on the power. NS was more susceptible to make a ‘deal’ because he had skeletons in the closet, and perhaps didn’t have the moral courage to take a stand. On the contrary. IK is totally a different person. It’s my opinion that IK has made a calculation that he has nothing to lose, and he sees this as a historical moment to define the roles of institutions. In his opinion, he means well, because he wants Army to be respected.
One can debate as to which political party has caused tremendous damage to the country, and PTI ‘s rule was too short in this contribution. A fair analysis will point finger to PPP & PMLN.

This story of yours is like sprinkling salt of truth on flour of lies and propaganda. many things u brought are just one-sided story, told or written by critics, why did u not read explore books written by people who were in his Favour? that might have made your story unbiased. but 20 minutes into it, have made me understand if someone is already aware through many sources, about many incidents you mentioned, he knows that you are just making up assumptions about a person, knowing that he is already not famous today because of his 3 acts, 1) he hanged Bhutto, 2) He brought Nawaz and MQM in politics, and 3) He was a dictator....
People from PTI and PPP will definitely be against him without knowing other side of story at all. and that is majority u got, so u got views, and people got a well-furnished video to prove that twisted history as a proof. It's not easy to assess Zia ul Haq. These stories could be true, no doubt, but Bhutto was an evil genius, and the military had become pro secular in those times, and were looking towards a dictatorship with Bhutto anyways. Zia ul haq did indeed create 2 monsters that are to this day a consequence of our military rule, Nawaz Sharif and Altaf Hussain. The reality is, Zia ul Haq wasn't a traitor but a real patriot, he developed the nuclear program, even if Bhutto started it as a political move, but actually was implemented by Zia ul Haq. If he was a traitor, he could've easily stopped the nuclear program and our economy would at least be ahead of Bangladesh, but would be super vulnerable infront of India. He also allegedly killed RAW agents who tried to infiltrate the nuclear program, regardless of the repercussions that could've came about. He in his era established 6 Islamic states, and stopped communist Russia from taking over both Afghanistan and Pakistan. It's easy to look at it one angle, but the reality is, it is a worth a deep study through a realist lens. There is too much to insight.
