- My buddy Brian and I headed up to the Sierras for an educational trip to the Eastern Sierras. There was more snow than we expected, and the conditions were not favorable for backpacking. But we managed to make it through, and some fun was had. It was an adventure for sure. Sometimes wonderful, sometimes painful...

That drive up to Pine Creek that last turn when the sheer Sierra walls come into view is always awesome and intimidating you just know
its gonna beat you up.
Indeed! This was our second trip from that same trailhead. And I was equally impressed both times!

I had heatstroke during a cross country skiing trip during the 1980’s. The weather you had appeared similar to what we had. I drank plenty of water, I thought? Had sunscreen on. I shivered all night in my marvellous down sleeping bag, vomited my breakfast within a quarter hour and then needed to ski most of the day to reach the next place to camp.
Hopefully you have recovered from your sunburn?
Reflection on the first night - great idea to listen to your body and camp.
Brave of you both to enter some of those vigorous streams.
Impressive beautiful country to be in. Cheers, Paul
I have recovered from the burn thankfully. I think heatstroke may have been the culprit. It was so hot all day, even surrounded by snow.
Beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing
It really was a gorgeous trip!
You had your hands full, Jim.
What beautiful scenery though. I need to start doing a better job with sunblock. Especially when I head into the higher elevations.
It was a valuable, though painful, lesson that what works most trips doesn’t necessarily work at elevation.
Beautiful video. A rough trip but absolutely beautiful hike! You definitely make it feel like I’m right there with you on trip. Incredible job as always!
Thanks so much! It means a lot to me considering how great your videos always are.
Hiking in the snow is so much tougher. When I over exert myself, which I actually did last weekend, I just don’t feel like eating either. I just ate trail mix for dinner that night. But felt much better in the morning after a good sleep. You also had a horrible sunburn, which probably made it a lot worse for you. Keep safe out there.
Snow really is much more strenuous to move through. Combined with the rapid elevation gain, and heat, My body just has enough I guess.
Appreciate you! You’re honest and real. What a gorgeous place!
That sunburn though.
Thanks so much. That really does mean a lot to me. And yeah. The burn was real bad. It’s healed now thankfully.
Sun cups and vertical mile days. It’s like fun, but different.
Fun adjacent.
Oof. Awesome video. Felt like I was right there with you each step. I really need to pay more attention to eye and skin protection now that I'm fishing more and also looking to heading to the Sierras when that rushing water is less scary 😅. Glad you got back safe. 👍
I clearly need to do a better job with my sun protection routine. Haha. The rushing water gets me every time.
