- YES THIS PREVENTS IT FROM TURNING BACK ON!
If your sick of youtube's utterly idiotic "keep hovering to play" feature and it keeps turning back on, this will help you turn it off permanently. It works by editing the cookie for youtube to force inline playback to be disabled.

Again I take no credit for figuring out how to fix this. I'm sure this has helped a lot of you. If the guide helped you liking the video will help promote it so it can help others. I dont really care how many views this gets, I made this vid because this "feature" has been a pain in the butt for months now and I didnt see any other video guides covering this.

God this "feature" drives me nuts. Classic CZcams, doing their best to make the site as un-userfriendly as possible.
I dont get it, is anyone actually watching the video when its that small? It seems like such a useless feature to me that just makes the site slower
@@___echo___ No, but it counts as a view even if it just plays for one frame. Basically this was implemented to boost viewcounts.
Working! This is a great fix, thanks.
Can't believe how committed youtube is to making their UI continually get worse...
Nvm, didn't work when I restarted browser
How can youtube think this is a good idea? I hate it. The should at least let their paying customers have the otion to turn it off!
1 yr later - still works! Woo hoo! ♥
Does anyone have something that disables animated thumbnails completely?
F6=400 changes to the dark theme
Too bad youtube took this away now.
It's inline playback or nothing now.
bro
thank you so much
Actually I think the problem is moreso that the cookie expires after a week. So if you haven't visited CZcams in the browser for a week, the setting is gone. I'm guessing it's supposed to be saved for your account so it's still there when you return, but not working properly. Now the particular cookie editing extension for Firefox you're showing, has a lock button on the same line as the save button. Clicking that will prevent the cookie from being changed or expiring. Just keep in mind that doing this, may also prevent other settings from saving (Including the time zone and whatever f6 is, couldn't figure it out either, but I suspect it may be preferred language for captions).
Great Find! Any clue about Ambient mode?
No idea, sorry.
Damn, I was hoping it'd allow me to disable that idiotic playback feature altogether. Like, I want to pop it in a new tab, but I have to specifically click the small-ass title, instead of clicking on the thumbnail or so.
In my case, the f6 setting seems to control the appearance, so I didn't mess with it. The key was the f7 setting -- once removed, everything became perfect... which oddly enough doesn't match your results, but hey, at least it's working for everyone. Thanks!
They made some changes recently to the UI which could effect that.
perfect. life is good again. thanks
