Compress Video for CZcams without Quality Lose: bit.ly/3PdrBuO
Spell check. Unless Quality Lose is a proper noun.
That Video-Proc is just for beginners who couldn't understand how to use FFMPEG.
I knew it!! I always had a suspicion that popular youtubers get higher bitrate or some sort of lower compression by youtube! That's why their videos are so ultra sharp and clean, while my videos turn into a horrible blocky mess the very moment something in the frame slightly moves. Thanks for being transparent while others just tell us to "raise bitrate in export settings"
Yeah unfortunately that’s how it works. But with these tips we can get a competitive edge. Glad I could help, thanks for watching.
@@GlenReed thanks for making the video! Will always upload in 4K now 🙌🏼
@@xKingston111 nice!
I had the same suspicions too. I'm sure it happens in many platforms especially on Instagram and Facebook.
Unfortunately so 😔
@@xKingston111 One question to you guys that work with heavy video files everyday: I just started and I have been dealing with massive video files 8 hours in length, keeping bitrate at 2500 to keep my videos under the ratio of aprox 1 GB per hour. The question is: does dealing with videos cause wear on the disk? Either it be spinning disk or SSD. Any tips in regards to that? Did you ever notice that your disk lifespan was reduced somehow by dealing with videos? For now, while I don't strike my first client yet and I'm doing this for free, I just want to make sure I'm not damaging my equipment in the process. Once I am earning some income, it's fine, I can replace disks.
So in short:
- Use 2K or 4K when rendering and uploading, regardless of your resolution
- Use VP9 Codec
- Don't use render presets in video editing software
- Use 3x higher bitrate than CZcams recommends
- Schedule your videos
- Add grain/noise to your video
Basically 🙂
Why should ad noise/grains? , pls reply
Adding grain prevents heavy compression which causes banding. Merry Christmas!
I'm not sure but raising your bitrate puts on extra effort on CZcams compression system and thus the output is grainy.
Compact video size (low bitrate) allows for easy compression.
but I use imovie )): what can I do with that? I record on iPhone and idk how to insert my videos onto my MacBook without losing quality
I used to upload all my videos in 2k to get vp9.
When my videos started getting 2k quality even right after the upload was done, I knew the algorithm was favoring my videos.
Now I just upload in 1080p, and it gets vp9 either way.
As a small creator, that's the best compliment you can get from CZcams, lmao.
Great tips, and definitely reinforces what we've discovered in our own studies with trying to improve the appearance of film grain on uploaded videos
Thanks! You guys definitely know better than I do how much film grain can improve an image. I’ve heard great things about FilmConvert but have yet to try it. Thanks for watching 🙂
This was extremely helpful, Glen - thank you.

Thanks for the tip. I won't use it all the time, but the ability to upload a video with less compression will certainly be a big help for some of my content.
Definitely! If it’s a video that really matters it’s worth the extra effort. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic. Thanks for the tips Glen!

Great stuff Glen! I've noticed that my uploaded videos are slightly darker, and my skin appears redder on CZcams than in the source file. Will this help that out as well?
Unfortunately it won’t help with color shifts. I use Davinci Resolve Studio and noticed a color and contrast shift in my videos as well. This can be a problem with how the different browsers process the video and will vary based on which browser you are using. To combat this I edit and export in sRGB as my color space since most common browser color space. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching 🙂
This is exactly the information I was looking for Thanks so much for the knowledge 🤙

This video is GOLD!! Thank you!
Thanks man! I appreciate the encouragement.
To improve 8 bit footage and tame the banding that results from grading such low bitrate footage, applying temporal noise reduction as well really helps.
Yes it can! And then add artificial noise back at the end of the grading process to help keep CZcams from compressing too much.
Adding noise is called dithering. It works by randomising quantisation error so that certain patterns don't show up. To fully understand how it works, you need to have understanding of how the audio/video is divided into orthogonal subbands which are then upsampled and quantized into lower resolution and downsampled again and the how this process adds noise to the bands and how the inverse transform makes these noises look like.
Thanks for the great input! And thanks for watching 🙂
I don’t think sharpen will give you the results you’re looking for. Adding grain/noise basically keeps things moving in the frame so CZcams won’t compress it as much. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching!

Awesome content. Quality, straight-ish to the point (just enough so that there's actually some in-depth explanation when needed). Subbed.
Question : What are your audio export settings in Resolve? I know CZcams prefers MP4, but when selected in Resolve on PC, this format limits both Bit Rate and Bit Depth!
Is it a good idea to export .MOV with PCM 24 Bit Depth audio? Thanks dude!
Hey! Thanks for the great comment! In Resolve I really just use the default of Linear PCM with the sample rate same as project and 16 Bit Depth. It hasn’t really given me any issues although I’m not really an audio guy. I have been using a plug-in suite called Alex Audio Butler which helps with my mixing, I also did a full review on my channel if you’re interested. Thanks for watching!

Awesome video man, great job! I use a Sony A6400 with Sigma's 16mm F1.4 lens, I record and upload everything in 4K but it never really looks nearly as good as it does out of camera after I've uploaded. I generally set the bitrate in Premiere to 45mbps as per CZcams's guidelines, but I'll definitely try to bump that up to 90mbps as you've suggested to see if it looks better. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Thanks for the encouragement man! Glad I could help!
Problem is, bumping that up also means a bigger file size. I also have a Sony a6400 and have uploaded encoded videos at 45mbps as well as footage directly from the camera which is 95mbps and i didn't notice any difference in quality when viewing on youtube.
Great Tips! Do you think that sometimes a video gets better in terms of the quality after a couple of days? Sometimes it seems to me that the video looks more chunky straight after publishing.
Thanks! Definitely! Sometimes depending of what you upload I have noticed it can take a couple days for CZcams to fully transcode to higher resolution and codecs. It can be very frustrating at times considering the algorithm places such a Ephesus on how a video performs in the first few hours after upload. Thanks for watching!
great tips, thank you
!
No problem! Glad I could help! Thanks for watching 🙂
Very, thank you!!!
Great tips, thank you!
Quick question - are there any downsides to adding film grain? Would it negatively affect scenes that actually have a lot of motion? In this video, if you look closely at the area right above your right shoulder, there seems to be some staticy flickering dots going on.. wondering if that might be caused by the film grain or something else?
Thanks!
The only downside that I can think of is larger file sizes and render times. As for the flickering 🤔 I don’t see it in my end when viewing on CZcams via chrome. Thanks for watching!

No problem man! Glad to help 🙂
Hello! If I have my video on 1080 how do I upload it on 2k or 4k? Do I have to scale it and export it that way on premiere? thanks!
@@lucascabrillana5008 My assumptions would be when you're on the export settings to set your profile higher to support the higher resolutions if it is being funny but just change the resolution under the video tab at the top from there so your sequence is actually at 1080p but upscaled to 2K or 4K, adjust the bitrate depending on which quality and frame rate you export as.
@@Julzdf thanks! Yes, it was that easy
Awesome, so I was already doing most of this. Basically I was setting my video to a constant bitrate, as high as I could, and uploading in 4k, even 1080p videos. One additional tip though, since this video is 2 years old, I also AI upscale the video with Topaz if it's just 1080p to 4k. That way there's even more detail.
Thanks for the additional tip! Davinci Resolve also has a upscale feature.

Consejos muy útiles, nos servirán para mejorar nuestras grabaciones. Thank you a lot!
Hi Glen! Thanks for this video. I tried this tip to edit in a 2k timeline and export it as a 2k file, but it added a black boarder to my whole video. Is there a way around this? I do have a bigger channel I'd say so I'm so upset this is happening to my videos that youtube are using the lower compressor for my uploads. Also what video codec would you recommend for the best quality upload when its a 1080p video? I edit final cut pro. Thanks!
Hey! Thanks for watching! Hmmm is the black border only on the top and bottom or is it all the way around your video? If you are trying to edit in 2k your resolution should be 2560x1440. It wouldn't hurt your quality even if you edited/exported in 4k 3840x2160 either. 4k is harder on your computer though. I looked at your last couple videos (cool channel btw), it seems as though you are getting the VP9 codec even though you are uploading 1080p. The quality looks decent to me.
As for final cut exports h.264 is your best choice. If you haven't tried it, Apple Compressor will give you much more options to adjust things like bit rate. Its totally worth the $50 and you can either send your projects directly to compressor from FCPX or create a preset for FCPX. I made the switch to Davinci Resolve which has these features built in.
Hope this helps!
Hi Glen!
Thanks so much for your reply. Appreciate you taking the time! So actually I have not tried those exact dimensions, I did now though and while the board issue isn’t there, in FCPX it doesn’t allow me to export in H.264 if it’s a 2k timeline. Only allows for AppleProRes which ends up being a huge file size. Not sure if you have a tip about that!
And thanks for complimenting my channel haha it’s been a long work in progress. It’s weird though, some video are processed with that lower codec and some with the higher. I wonder what the determining factor is 🤔
No problem! Always willing to help a fellow Floridian lol. That's odd I just tried a timeline with all the 2k presets plus 2560x1440 as a custom resolution and it lets me select h.264. ProRes is large! I shoot in ProRes almost daily and can easily fill a 1TB drive with less than 1hr of ProRes RAW. Try switching your timeline to 4k and see if it gives you the option to export in H.264. That should be the default. It might take a little bit longer to render. To keep your computer from running sluggish do your edits in 1080p and then switch it to 4k before exporting (this is what many pro editors do to keep things speedy).
Yeah building a channel is a lot more work than most realize, especially if you have a family. I know my channel could be much bigger if I spent to time to produce more content, but I spend most of my time producing content for others to pay the bills lol. As for the AVC vs VP9 deciding factor it may just be that CZcams hasn't fully transcoded your video yet. Lately a lot of people have been complaining about this only to find that it eventually transcodes. CZcams seems to be moving slowly lately. If you want send me a link to the video/videos you are having a issue with and I can take a look.
Thank you for your support czcams.com/channels/pWquuZsxf_shuOAWcIWMew.html
I found your video by attempting to Google why CZcams videos are playing blurry, but the minute an ad comes on in that very same video...it's suddenly crystal clear! Now I have an idea since it's obvious they play favorites as you mentioned...they definitely want ads to be perfect. Interesting. Mildly disheartening, but still interesting. Also, I didn't know about the stats for nerds, so I did your video and a fellow creator's video to compare. Sure enough, yours shows VP09 and hers shows AVC. Good info. Thank you!
Glad I could help. If you put to practice the tops in this video it will definitely help. Thanks for watching.

man.. those are some good tips. That seems pretty messed up that CZcams would favor larger creators in terms of upload quality as that can actually affect how people perceive your channel pretty immediately. Quality might not be something people consciously notice but they do notice it, and every little bit counts. Definitely gonna be implementing these tips man, appreciate it!

Hey Glen - Would you suggest uploading in MOV or MP4 for CZcams? I'm working on a 2 hour concert video so we're talking a 18gb VS 133gb. Quite a huge difference. Curious as to what your opinion would be. Is it worth the wait time / storage space? Or will it look about the same?
Best,
Tanner
I personally upload in MOV since I’m on a Mac but I’m not really sure it would make a huge difference to go with MP4. The larger file will take much longer to upload and I would definitely make sure you don’t have any monthly internet limits, but the larger file will also hold more information than the smaller more compressed version hopefully giving you a better end result. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@@GlenReed which one is the bigger file MP4 or MOV? Also great video!
@@4naz.44 H265 mov is the smallest
I am confused here. When I look at obviously compressed footage on YT that was recorded in 4K and rendered in 4K, the stats show that it is in that level and that it's using the better Codec you reference. But that compression is still obvious no matter what I do. What else might be happening or what else can I do to refine the YT vid?
There will always be some level of compression from CZcams unfortunately. The methods in this video are the only ways I know to help alleviate some of the effects. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Glen! I'm just learning and this really helps.

@@GlenReed It is just the matter of time, I'm sure of it.
The VP9 versus AVC tip was very useful! However, something is going on with CZcams very recently, because I use After Effects to encode in 4K, and up until my last video was uploaded using the EXACT SAME SETTINGS as the ones that were automatically accepted as 4K. File size was similar to the others. 3 days later, the editor showed SD, HD, and 4K were COMPLETED transcoding. Yet ALL the players in all my devices and computers were denied the 4K option in the player! Is it possible they deliberately changed something?
Exact same thing is happening to me this whole past week. All my 4k uploads were viewable as 4k, but now even after re-uploading the same video multiple times with the same high bitrate settings, days and days later all that is available to this video on any device is 1080. And a bluebird sky in this CZcams’s 1080 looks very bad. It looks more like 480. The pisser is, their letting me waste my time uploading in 1080 and letting me think I’m going to get 4k like my others. If their running low on space and need to throttle things down, they should make it known.
Seems like this may be happening to a lot of people as I have been getting comments saying the same things. Hopefully the issue is resolved soon. Keep me posted is you find a fix, I’m sure it would help others too. Thanks for watching!
Did this ever get sorted or did it continue to happen?
@@midnightcharasmr I'm waiting too 👀
This isn't what I was searching for, but youtube must have known I needed to know this. This is awesome, stuff I would of never thought would be "right". Thank you so much😍😍🙏
No problem 😉
You mentioned increasing the bitrate but you didn't mention what setting to use.
Either h.264 or HEVC h.265 works best using as close to double the bitrate CZcams recommends as possible support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en#zippy=%2Cbitrate
Even when I upload them in 4K or 2K, I still get slightly pixelated quality on 1080p, but when others do it they somehow get better ?, I’ve tried the bitrate increase also
Have you verified that you are receiving the VP9 codec after uploading to CZcams? It may take some time for it to transcode.
@@GlenReed yes i can verify it, the quality is great in anything above 1080p, but anything from 1080p and below it doesnt look as good as it should be
Unfortunately that may be the best it can be. There are a lot of other factors that could cause that issue and it’s really hard to say what could be the problem. Sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you.
I got from another youtube channel explained that VP09 if you export ur video in h265. And AVC1 for h264.
Because I already found that videos from big marketplace company Lazada Indonesia, most of their videos was in codecs AVC1 and still looking sharp & good quality.
So I think AVC1 & VP09 codecs are not the case.
