We all go through acne on those parts of our body where our sebaceous glands are most active such as our face, back, arms, chest, and even our scalp!
Although a less common part, many of you may be suffering from scalp acne. So when you notice acne on the border of your hairline, it means you might be at risk for scalp acne.
We can easily treat this.
Excess Product buildup from shampoo or other hair products, such as gel or hairspray, not washing hair frequently enough, waiting too long to wash your hair after a workout, wearing a hat or other headgear or equipment that causes friction against your scalp also contributes to this.
Acne on the scalp, or scalp folliculitis, is most common along your hairline. You will notice small and itchy pimples or pustules, which can sometimes become sore and crusty.
There are numerous infective pathogens that may cause folliculitis, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Diabetes mellitus, hyperhidrosis, maceration, tight-caps, obese people, inadequate use of topical corticosteroids and, hair care products and topical hydrocarbons, such as oils or tars (occupational exposure) may precipitate exacerbation of folliculitis.
In addition, immunocompromised patients, such as HIV/AIDS patients, may present with various types of folliculitis.
Sometimes, people also suffer from severe scalp acne also known as acne necrotica. In this condition, larget follicular spots or papules become inflamed and further develop into blackened crusts, finally leaving pox-like scars which leave permanent scars which of course, nobody likes. Acne necrotia can affect the face and scalp too.
To start with, you can use medicated shampoos that suit your hair & scalp.
So you can use shampoos which are infused with salicylic acid which helps to get rid of dead skin cells or even glycolic acid to cleanse and exfoliate your scalp & removing dead skin cells, bacteria, and sebum.
Your doctor might prescribe benzoyl peroxide to you. But it might not work here because it could bleach your hair. So keep that in mind. Instead, you can use salicylic acid-based products such as shampoos to treat Scalp Acne.
If you have a fungal infection and red flaky skin, ketoconazole infused shampoo will help you.
You can also use shampoos containing ciclopirox, an antifungal used to treat skin infections that are often added to dandruff shampoos.
But if nothing helps and you have persistent acne or hair loss and inflammation along with this, you should visit a doctor who will assess your scalp and give you the medicine you need.
If you do not have any scalp acne or you see it slowly developing, please wash your scalp regularly and make sure you are using hypoallergenic hair products which are natural. Hair sprays and gels are a big no-no.
Remember friends, at the end of the day, keeping your scalp & skin clean and healthy from within is extremely important.
And for that reason, it is important to eat foods rich in vitamins A, D, and Es. Multivitamin supplements do the trick. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables because the vitamins and minerals you find in them ensure that your hair stays beautiful, and scalp, clean.

Sir i am using Clindamycin and nicotine amide for face and shoulders which is perfectly fine doing that. But I am using Ketoconozole and pyrithrone shampoo 3 days once by diluting it but I get a sensation of itchy and painful when I comb though I use my medication recommended by my dermatologist...
i experienced acute hairfall out of the blue....what worked for me was that I stopped using any shampoo all together. I started washing my hair with Dahi every alternate day. It proved to be an improvement. Also i would suggest using coconut oil instead of sarso or any other oil on your hairs.

Sir, i have scalp psoriasis. It's not severe. I use salicylic based shampoo and flaky skin occurs occasionally like every 2-3 months. I am suffering from hairfall and whenever my hair strand falls i see a yellow small thick dry substance covering my hair root. This yellow substance is thinning my hair to extinction and I even visited one of the darmeotolosist but she couldn't cure just handed me with minoxidil and some hair growth spray but it didn't work intead i lost my hair density. I am not getting rid of those yellowish dry oil substance from my hair root and from last 6 to 8 months i am not having refined sugar, maida and all kind of junk foods products in my diet, whatever i consume i prefer home food.

Thank you for sharing information. I am so scared and frustrated with my son's scalp folliculities that I have given up all my hopes.
My son(21 years) has been suffering from scalp folliculities( yellow/white pus filled acnes) from almost 4 years. Several dermatologists, prescribed several antibiotics, ointments and so on. Pus culture and sensitivity test showed the infection of staphylococcus, bacteria.
After certain period of the completion of antibiotics, again they appear. But during the continuation of antibiotics scalp remains totally clean and clear.
But already ''Doxicycline" has come resistant.
But last 1year, 8 months he was absolutely ok. Again from 1 month it has reappeared.
Now I am just applying Fusigent ointment, and trying to maintain healthy diet, and cleanliness. Still these are not completely vanishing. But it's now possible as due to lockdown he is with me otherwise in his hostel life it's impossible to maintain this schedule.
What to do, please answer.

My doctor prescribed Isotroin 10mg which worked for a few months but the scalp foliculitis is back and I can't go to the doctor :(

Maine hair shave k baad socha k daily scalp cleaning k liye soap use kr luga our week me ek ya do baar shampoo (clinic plus jo ki mai bachpan se aaj tk use krta aaya hu) kr luga. Soap se nahane k baad mai ek normal coconut based hair oil lagaya tha taki achi hair growth ho lekin problem shuru ho gai. Please bataye aisa kyu ho rha hai our iska upchaar kya hai. Aapko bata du k mere ko kabhi dandruff nahi hua na he hair related issue huye Hain. Jabki maine college days me kandhe tk lambe baal kiye hain 2008 se 2011 tk. Ab meri age 30 years hai. Usme baad se mai 5,6 baar shave kara chuka hu lekin ye issue phli baar hua hai. Please advise what medication and what changes should I do. Thanks

Hello Sir, I have itchy scalp since May 2020. I went to Dermatologist in Bangalore and he prescribed : Desonide Lotion and Ketafung -Z plus. But still Its not resolving issue permanently.Kindly guide me what can I do now.
For hair fungus you should follow the diet.
1) you should not eat sugar
2) avoid milk
3) should not eat white rice take brown rice
4) should not eat wheat,bread,parotta ,chappathi,etc.
5) Drink plenty of water in empty stomach
6) Eat vegetables and more fruits
7) have nuts daily.
