Hiya Folks! Really expected more of Arthas ever since we saw Uther toss him into the Maw with Devos. Such emphasis, and little delivery. And even still, Jaina & Uther had more to say for Arthas, instead of Sylvanas. Especially Jaina. Did enjoy seeing Varian & Saurfang pull Anduin out of Domination (especially hearing Varian's voice & hearing his theme come up - after all those years in Legion). Was such a fantastic moment untill the disenchanted essence comes up. Alas, almost nearing the end, hang tight folks!

Sylvanas telling the flicker of arthas to basically fuck off and be forgotten now is like the writers to us.
The irony is I think wrath lich King classic will be a huge deal. Personally I skip most of classic well and TBC and I'm now leveling just recently in order to get ready for wrath

It so insulting. It feels like a spiteful fanfiction written by a fan who loves the character of Sylvanas but hates Arthas.
So they brought Arthas back from the dead, again, Right in front of Jaina, just to have Sylvanas monologue him into nonexistence without Jaina saying a thing
They never brought him back from the dead, he remained dead
in front of jaina and uther, both having a more important role with arthas than sylvanas
2020: Omg omg omg. Shadowlands. How many old character will return with this expansion... And Arthas OMG OMG OMG. I'm sure he will be in the center of this story line again. What a time to live.
2022: Arthas was the most awesome character ever.... Have no screentime and he returns as a blue fart and fades away because Sylvanas is sad . Great Story...
2002: So...this is a story about a man unable to see the consequence of his actions will have on him. He can never go back to what he once was. Was it the Lich King's fault?
2003: So...it wasn't Ner'zhul at all. It was all him. He destroyed himself without anyone helping. He choose this path. He wanted to be Lich King. And now only darkness is before him.
2020: Shadowlands....is this the darkness he saw in his moments of death?
2022: ....not the Shadowlands, not the Maw, hell he never even saw Luthor the Lightbringer bring about his vengeance on him. What he saw was True death. A fate he could have avoided had he just accepted the fact he was wrong. There was never any hope for redemption for someone who did not want to be saved. It never mattered to him that people still loved him, wanted him to return. He did not want it...to him no one was good enough.
If this is your choice Arthas, then may you find peace in true death, where not even the words of your most hated enemy can touch you. Where whatever was left of the good man you were can never be hurt by you ever again.

@@rwade4387 I thin the idea was that the power was always within him he just needed to recognize it. Remember he's not the first one to resist the will of the lich king/jailer. All the knights of the ebon blade did so did all the forsaken.
@@DaDunge well, kinda. Before arthas became Litch king it was Nerzul who had full control over scourge/forsaken…. But when ilidan caused severe damage & nerzul lost his grip over the scourge causing them to branch into 3 factions when Arthas got frostmourne but had yet to get the crown. The scourge followed Arthas cause they stayed loyal to the frozen throne, dreadlords had the forsaken & Sylvanas had the banshees…. Syslvanas won the civil war causing the forsaken to follow her. When Arthas did finally ascend to the Litch King it was too late since it boils down to basically Sylvanas acquired them first & she had her own sway over the dead.

I like to imagine Sargaeras never stabbed azeroth, and was imprisoned forever. There was a great war, but it ended with Azshara, N'Zoth, and Sylvanas dead. Thrall returned as leader of the Orcs, the Horde and Alliance disbanded, never to make war on each other. And then everyone lived happily ever after.

Im embarassed for expecting something more than this shit
Arthas got monologued to death by Sylvanas, jeez. You'd think Blizzard would've figured out by now the last character people wanna hear more of is Sylvanas. Jaina didnt even say anything, litterally stood there like a statue.
Fun fact: Arthas's soul would have survived, but chose to fade into oblivion rather than exist in a universe where Sylvanas gets redeemed.
tbh, that's what i'm most pissed about. Jaina not taking the lead , but hey wtf let sylvanas have the last word.
Arthas would’ve rather fade from existence than continue to hear her monologue
If the final words to Arthas would have been from Jaina, I would have been much happier with this.
Fire Steve Danuser already, holy shit Blizzard.
Everyone: oh boy I hope to see arthas in full glory. Redeeming himself by fighting side to side with enemies and friends showing everyone what he really was before being corrupted.
Blizzard: nah let’s make him a light bulb.

I was soo disappointed when they did this to Arthas. They could of had him go down the ultimate path of redemption, earn a body back, become a holy paladin. WoLK was my favorite expac, I hate how they ended Arthas this way. So disappointing. Yea, I'm done with Blizzard. Sure he was an epic villain, but even Sylvannas saw the error of her ways.
@@dell051lt Woltk was the best. They know it too. The ending to this just shows how much contempt they have for us for forcing them to do it in "classic".
@@dell051lt i havent played wow in almost 4 years now, i agree wotlk was the best expansion i would have been totally happy if the game ended there in all honesty
The fact Jaina's voice wasn't the last thing Arthas heard shows just how little investment or feeling the writers have for their characters. You can read and feel the love of a writer from their work, you can also read and feel their utter contempt.
Jaina had let go of Arthas during her questline in BfA where Gorak'tul tormented her with her memories of him. Uther accepted his fault in what happened to Arthas during his Shadowlands questline.
Whilst Uther helped raise Arthas and Jaina was his last girlfriend, Sylvanas was actually the one most affected by Arthas and so her having the last words to him make sense. Her entire story was because of Arthas, after all.
WoW hasn't had that feeling since Christ Metzen left.
Sylvanas really did set a lot of us free with this expansion. This cinematic cut all ties I have to this game.
Requiescat in pace
Lol sad, but true. Just hope Blizz can resurrect us for the next expansion.
@Johnathan Lee What are you on about? I've been a true fan since i started in the Cataclysm. But i won't stand for this. This expansion is truly awful. I'm sorry to say You are blind if you cannot see what it has become.
I am with you sir. They ruined the game's best character (for many).
@Johnathan Lee You know what's more pathetic than whiners? Fanboys.
@Johnathan Lee didn’t expect someone to actually defend Blizzard shitting on your plate and eating it with a smile. I earned my Titles my Grand Marshal in Classic too and I left that shit behind due to how the game treats you as if you are in a toxic relationship; until you realise that it is just a game and even more a game that keeps you playing, because, you don’t want to leave your “achievements” behind maybe someday you will realise just how meaningless the game truly is.
First he was the hеir of Lorderon's throne and a devoted Paladin of the Knights of the Silver Hand. He was a comrade, son, friend, lover, protector.
Then he became driven by anger and rage, by the desire to do anything to protect his people and to punish those who had wronged him no matter the cost. The end justified any means in his path of vengeance.
Then he turned into the very thing he sought to destroy, his soul being the first of many taken by the wicked blade he will hold from now on. He became a messenger of death, a fallen knight, a kingslayer and a fatherkiller. He brought death and destruction to the people he once protected.
Then he became the embodiment of Death itself, the jailer of the damned and a King ruling over a kingdom of horrors. His soul, once radiant with the Light has become an empty abyss. But no king rules forever. And when he finally fell, there was only darkness before him...
Then he became a sword.
And finally a light bulb.
"finally a light bulb" 😂😂
This really undermines how far the writing team has fallen. They consistently disappoint in every conceivable way.
@@josephmackie6434 Mind you, he wasn't just a sword or light bulb. His essence was used to create what he once was, what he once fought against, and what he once sought to destroy. His whole being was used to murder and consume the living, and even after death, forced to cause others to do the same exact thing.
At this point I just can't believe they are keeping this writing team. It's insanity. They had half a decade and the writing just kept getting worse and worse. How many chances do they need when all they've done is fuck up? There hasn't been a single good thing about the lore and writing since legion. I don't want people losing their jobs but sometimes people are just not qualified and they need to go.
@@ickyfist What was so good in Legion that Shadowlands and BFA didn't have? Also Legion and BFA share an overlap of 2018, less than 4 years ago. There can't be that much of a difference between the two (assuming they didn't lay off the writers they had in Legion). So what was the difference in writing?
Most of the negatives (particularly for BFA) were the systems, that writers have no hand in.
Its amazing how many beloved characters they can drag through the dirt with one expansion.
That is such a let down honestly. There was a lot of missed opportunity here with Arthas. I understand his soul being so thoroughly ravaged, as to be little more than a remnant of itself, but I feel like some aspect of it should've found enough strength left over from being tethered to Anduin, to still have some ability to at least briefly project his old visage, say a few words of remorse, perhaps a quiet thanks for letting it finally end and fading away after mourning the life he could've lived if not for one mistake? There's a lot between the core 3 of Arthas, Jaina, and Uther thats just been cast aside. Its awful that the closest thing to redemption for Arthas is still in his death cinematic.
Nah, fuck Arthas. He deserves to be forgotten.
@@LordMoonshadowGaGa seethe and dilate bud
They tried to mock Garrosh ny nuking him out of the universe in a 20s cutscene. But everyone loved it so now Arthas gets the 'Goodfellas' treatment. It's unfair, but I think that's the point the developers are trying to come across.
Frankly I kinda expected him to show up infront of Anduin and encourage him not to end up like him or something like that. Ya know a last spark to say farewell to Arthas for good. Instead of just a fart and dust blown in the wind type of deal. Which is literally what they just did.
@@robosoldier11 arthas doing that would have been a poignant end to a once great character but that doesn't shit on white straight males so it is an impossibility in 2022. They won. This is how it will be for decades other than fringe indie developers.

Arthas is the representation of Blizzard, they are just a weak fragment of the soul they once were. Maybe thats the message Blizz is sending us. How the fuck do you ruin one of the most important characters in your lore like that? (if not the most important).
Purposesly. Thats how.
Ruin?
In my opinion this sendoff was the most use you could still get out of Arthas character.

Sylvanas: willing working for the jailer and does terrible things for him..... Redemption arc
Arthas: Takes up Frostmourne to save his people originally. Gets Dominated and controlled. Turned evil because of it. At the end of wrath when he is defeated. He seems very much, happy it is finally over and to be released from the control. Gets thrown into the maw by Uther. His soul is then used to control others and Anduin. Finally gets set free. Told to go away and rot.
I haven't played wow since the ending of wrath, but kept up on the story here and there. I don't know if I'm missing something or did they just do Arthas super dirty here.
they absolutely did him dirty
They did him soo wrong. He should of been at least allowed to survive, and forced to see what he did, relive the atrocities he committed within Maw, imprisoned. Who knows though if they will revitalize his character, bring him back. Does a spirit just fade into nothingness? One of the most iconic villians in the story, and this is how they do him. I would favor his soul/spirit to remain trapped in Torghast. That would of at least been better then this crap.
I was gonna argue Sylvannas had good intentions. I forgot her reason for joining the jailer was because she didn't want to go to the Maw. The Sylvannas before and after she threw herself off Icecrown are two very different people; the Sylvannas after is far more selfish.

Damn, the new writing team hated Arthas so much they had to bring him back from damnation just to spit on him one last time and kill him off again in the afterlife. You can't have it both ways, Blizzard. Either everyone is 100% responsible for their actions under Zoval's domination magic or they aren't. Don't call it domination if it's not complete control. Just say Arthas got Tik Tok influenced and he was gullible acting on his own after watching 10 second clips of Nerzul twerking on the Icecrown throne.

That scene with Arthas' last sliver of essence, that's not only Arthas that's we all whom have been here since Warcraft 3, the last ties to this universe are now broken forever, we are now freed from this torture.

I kind of wonder why would've been better, bringing him back in someway and fucking his great story even more? i don't even know.
I dont know if I can play this anymore. Arthas was my favorite character in all the lore. He should of gotten a chance at redemption. Be turned from Death Knight, to Holy Paladin. I hate Blizzard for this, and will only play Classic WoW now.
The thing what bothers me the most is all the build up we saw with Uther throwing his soul into the maw, just to end all of this with all the people that cared about arthas not even having the opportunity to have a conversation with him. Only sylvanas got her stupid ass redemption speech. The thing with SL lore - i could've been an unforgettable part of this games lore, and yet they butchered it, scrapped any good thing we saw before the expansion has been released, and EVERY character, that was important for the lore just became useless. Vashj, Kael, Garrosh, Anduin, Ysera, Uther, the list goes on and on. It makes me so mad, because it would've been so beautiful and great if they'd push those stories onto the frontline of the expansion.

Rome was not created in a day, but it sure did fall in one day.
This applies to anything, including a game.
@@cainabel6356 Rome didn't fall in one day, it was a long process of poor decisions and mismanagement together with outside forces which lead to the fall of Rome. Economics, infighting, forced migrations, invasions.
Now you could still make the same argument for WoW, that it has been leading up to this point with poor writing, such as by killing of the wrong characters, making poor decisions through expansion choices, economic incentives, etc.
But Rome didn't fall in a day, and neither did WoW.

@@Smithington_ I think you're missing the point of the joke. They commonly say that Rome wasn't built in a day, but that it was felled in a night.
The reason behind this is because it takes a lot of work to build something up, but an army can siege your castle and take you out in one day. And this has never been more true than today where we can use missles to bomb a nation and end its power over night.
The same is true for WoW and anyone connected to the internet, it'll take your entire life to build up your reputation, your legacy, to build your brand, but it only takes one wrong tweet, one wrong expansion, to destroy your credibility.
Take for example, people tweeting that they are anti-vaxx, or pro-trump, that automatically destroys their credibility over night, like a missle bombing the fortress.
So, it's true. Rome wasn't built in a day, but it was felled in a night. Sure, you could argue that it took many years of problems for it to fall, but by that logic, I could argue it took since the beginning of time for it to fall, since the decisions that lead to collapse were formed by parents and elders whose opinions were formed the same way, so on and so on until the dawn of time. It's a pointless argument.

"And with each selfish act, became you."
No, Sylvanas. Arthas wasn't stupid enough to trust a guy named The Jailer, who is running a prison, who becomes more powerful the more people he puts into that prison, to set everyone free. That was your grand plan.

Yeah, he just trusted a guy named the Lich King, who was annihilating Arthas' own people, and who became more powerful the more people Arthas slew in either the Light's name or the Lich King's, and a lot of that was before he even touched Frostmourne.
TFW you realize Blizzard's writing was always shitty, and they went to "good guy we know gets corrupted so you can fight them, even though we don't exactly know what that corruption means in terms of their free will" at literally every possible chance they could in all three of their franchises. Folks wrinkle their noses now only because it's the popular thing to do. Highly possible. Rumours claim that the reason why Garrosh and Sylvanas did complete 180 degrees at different points was due to Kosak and Afrasiabi disliking each other, so to irritate each other, they'd make the other person's favourite character do horrific actions, like turning Garrosh crazy in MoP and have Sylvanas burn down Teldrassil. And just like that, the tiny flicker of love and hope we have for this franchise fade away, just like how Arthas is portrayed. Fitting, I suppose.
Arthas should have been handled in one of two ways in my mind. 1) Have us save his now uncorrupted soul from the Maw at the end of the initial content so that he becomes an Illidan in Legion-type figure, using his connection to and knowledge of the Jailer to help defeat him, while trying to make amends with all the character's he's hurt like Sylvanas, Jaina, and Uther, to differing results. Or 2) Have him fully possess Anduin, taking over his body and repeatedly talking through him with the explanation that the Jailer has dominated his soul and forced him into servitude. Then when Anduin splits the blade and becomes free, we also see Arthas' soul but in his full form, weak and broken. The characters say one last goodbye to him that they never got to say back in WOTLK, and he fades away with a certain sadness of what the Jailer turned him into and forced him to do.
With this it feels like they were too scared to bring him back fully, but also too scared to not have him in an expansion literally about death and the origins of the Lich King. Like if they were too scared, then maybe they shouldn't have made this expansion in the first place!
You are 100% right

Should have made him into a half human half torn spirit like Shadows of Mordor
@Spockman : Even better build up for the first option :D---when Anduin split his sword, this break's the jailer's domination, BUT the changes to the sword are somewhat permanent--you catch a glimpse of Arthas's ghost appear around that soul fragment...as it fades, you see it settle into one half of the blade....in this case his soul is now uncorrupted, BUT is still so damaged that it can only exist as part of Anduin's blade. This would allow him to appear as needed to try and make his amends, and offer knowledge regarding the jailer?
Well Blizzard may have forgotten one of their greatest characters which helped the WoW to became what it was,but players did not and it’s so disappointing to see something like this be called "Arthas Ending" come on it would be better than to just let him be forever lost in the Maw

Two: Arthas didn't get shit on as much as I thought he was, but he was still shit on hard. He manifested as a Kyrian fart then vanished after Sylvanas monologued whilst other people important to him either said nothing (Jaina) or weren't even there at all (Calia).

@@slaughteringgg Cried when? During this cinematic or during 5.3? I would understand crying @ 5.3 (haven't reached that specific part yet, still need to get through the Trial), I would not understand crying at this cinematic, as there it's pretty soulless overall.

Interestingly enough, Sylvanas, Jaina and Uther are 3 of the 5 characters that react (and reward something) when defeating Arthas in ICC for the Shadowmourne questline. The others are Darion Mograine and Muradin. Sylvanas, Uther and Jaina are also the only 3 characters present at the Halls of Reflection dungeon, where they meet Arthas and find out that almost nothing lasts of him (specially Jaina).
