Can't help but notice how very simple and very humble Lea looks through it all when in fact she was the star of the show...
Lea's obviously a soprano but she has SUCH amazing control when she hits those low notes. She doesn't get breathy nor does she force it.
@@reamaelobrigo4923 The hell she's not. A region in her voice is simply atrophied after observing masked placement. You can hear it in her vibrato now. When she first started in Miss Saigon, she already sounded pleasant but the top region of her chest voice was neglected and it caused her to strain a lot.
to make it clear for all of you, She's a lyric soprano. She sang "Pie Jesu" before on the original pitch. Pie Jesu is for lyric sopranos. you can find the audio here on CZcams.
@Lamb and Arianate In the end, it's musical theatre. Lea dedicated her sound to this achieved tone of beauty and lightness. She does not belt simply due to the fact that she was trained different, although she most absolutely can if she grew up in Pop. I believe that she is a natural soprano, with the facility to produce a High C but decided to take on alto roles regardless. She is a storyteller and a musical genius. From Glinda to Kim or Eponine, she can seamlessly jump from one to the other without much efforr.
@Lamb and Arianate If you want to listen her being bolder with chest mix, listen to the *Back to Before Concert* . She also belted an F#5 in a random birthday part jamming session. Regardless, her mixing is excellent although she does not linger much above Es. The sweet spot would be pitches around C5.
@Lamb and Arianate Lea's voice really is something that would confuse you lol. If there is anything that I have learned from hearing her, it's that, range means nothing if every note doesn't have a similar quality. She tells stories with her singing and does not need to be belting Bb5s or A5s to deliver an impressive vocal feat. She is a chameleon who could sing low notes, high notes, and everything in between. You will start appreciating her more once you know of the intention of the music that she is delivering. Enjoy! hihi.
Lea’s lower register is as beautiful as her high notes. She’s really amazing 😍
Did you see lea's reaction when she heard the orchestra version of the music hahaha they rehearsing but they are using piano but when they use orchestra is so epic they all smile and feel good.

I do shows where I live and I love orchestra Practice cuz everything starts to feel real ❤
even if i will audition as a janitor in Ms Saigon.. im pretty sure the whole world would so proud of me..
Depending on how you will perform 😂
Well, if you did awesome, sure😂
Lea being so professional and mature at her age is goals
i love that this whole behind the scenes were well documented. i was not yet born at that point of time, so thanks for this.
fuck I just realized I wasn't live at this time either
I audition today for Kim in the german cast. Seeing this makes me proud to get the chance to playing my dreamrole in my dream musical. #ThisIstheHour
I hope u got the part. I wish you well. God bless. ❤
This series made me interested and appreciate musicals. I badly wanna watch one and I badly wanna watch the original Miss Saigon.
Lea's humility and innocency is immersely beautiful 😍🤩 still watching 2021🤩 😍 because she's not an ordinary singer but a legendary and one of a kind🏆🏆🥇🥇
It's 2024 and I'm watching this because they just came back to the Philippines after a long, long time!!! I am so thrilled.
I noticed how everyone was so calm at the beginning. Everything became so intense once the showing is at hand. I just love how everyone's so passionate.
I am here too! 😍
I love how when they were editing the musical score. . . it's by hand. . . nowadays it's done by the use of a computer.
Goosebumps on Lea's performance in the preview. From the audition to the show day, she never disappoints.
That innocent look of Lea always get me... nov 2018😍
this orchestra is kick ass!
Parang ang girap ang pinagdaanan lahat mga cast. Inocenteng inocente pa si lea
Who’s watching with me in 2020 (The Home Quarantine Season)
Me. So good.
2021 here
2021
I’m still watching April 8, 2021 💕🇺🇸
Lea is one ☝️ of the respected talent abroad and thru her we are also respected abroad in our work. She is what filipino is all about; masipag, mapag kumbababa, matalino, matiyaga, maganda at iba pang magagandang katangian.
lea is superstar
watching it on May 16, 2019 :)
May 9 2024 :)
Excellent "behind the scenes" documentary. Must just find the full version of this production. Lea is excellent. Lot of work involved in all departments.
lol Nic Hytner losing it! i was a musician in a show with him and he lost it with all the actors and made some cry! luckily i was just a lowly pianist so as long i as i didnt f*** up i was ok! hehe Claude MS took it quite well thought.
Appreciate those people who were behind the curtain, because without them the production won't be successful ❤
Agree! They’re the real heroes here. I mean the whole production team should be appreciated, not just the cast.
I love how the choreographer is so calm, you can tell they all feel relaxed round him Haha😊
Isay Alvarez as Gigi is amazing.
Woww Lea looks so innocent but superb voice. I didn't know Pinky Amador was one of the cast. Three talented Filipino, Lea ,Monique & Pinky.
Leah Lozarita i saw 4 filipina (Lea, Monique, Pinky and Isay) and robert ceña.
janine desiderio too.. ❤️
we're not doing a fucking film!!!
yeah who said that? i was confused as to what was happening!
lili evans, right? was so confused too
incredible incredible!!!!! Thanks so much for sharing and so excited to see this in the summer!
Thank you for posting this.
their preview show gave me goosebumps
Claire Moore is a force of nature...amazing!!! At about 11 min
+Archer Blake Absolutely - also never understood why 'Now That I've Seen her' was dropped for 'Maybe'
I think they wanted Ellen to be more sympathetic.
Damn they cut the sun and moon. XD what a tease.
many filipino talent wow!!!
Just love the complexity of the cast parts so strong lyrics
Yan ang broadway. Hindi basta-basta. Dapat lahat words na lumalabas sa bibig mo, clear. Compared sa ibang mga pop aingers ngayon........... tagalog na nga lang, hindi ma pronounce ng tama LMAO.
Naku broadway and pop are two very different narratives. Marami din namang pop singers noon na gibberish yung mga kanta but it doesn't mean they're bad singers na or pangit ang songs nila. Kaya don't compare broadway and pop as if one should be like the other. Kailangan clear ang diction sa broadway kasi every word you sing is literally part of a bigger picture/story. Nag-aacting ka. Eh sa pop na man, you are conveying the message of the song and the listeners can simply interpret it however they want. Pop is still art and who knows? Baka part yung gibberish pronunciation sa artistic expression ng nag produce ng kanta?
@@rowzeeistyra gibberish is artistic now? Its just shit music and untalented singers trying to sound beatiful.
@@rowzeeistyra periodt.
This is not Broadway this is the west end production based in London,Broadway is for America In NYC
omg.. its my day off and now watching part 4..... :)
12:20 Director and Composer going at each other. Composer wants final tweak and Director won't have none of it.
who's watching with me? it's already 2021
Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the way she sings midnight "and" high noon around 13:55 is so delicate and beautiful. Also, i really enjoy the orchestra during the first public preview - it sounds like some instruments here are not included in the CD recording versions?
Yea, that " high noon " part she sang puts my heart even more to musical theater.
Lea is so adorable
Sobrang .nakakapagod ang preparation....watching lang ako yet i feel tired for them
The girl that fell down is quite okay. That was Ruthie Henshall. She later played Fantine in the 10th Anniversary of Les Miz. She was also with Carol Burnett in Putting it Together.
Ruthie is my fave fantine
The High Septon can dance!!! 😂😂😂
I think someone was complaining about the documentary crew/camera. At first I thought he was yelling at Lea (!!!) but I think he was just fed up with the camera looking over everyone's shoulder. Unfortunately I have NO idea who it was. The camera cut off right as it swung his way.
It was Nicholas Hytner the director.
OMG CHILLSSS when the orchestra started playing!!!!!!!!!!!
Ang simple lang ni Lea, laging tshirt lang ang suot 😁
This is PURE HARDWORK
omggggg
Truly marvelous...so awesome to have seen this video rehearsal. These fab rehearsal scenes--the behind-the-scenes takes (numerous) were just fantastic. Kudos to everyone, from the crew--technical--all the performers, the musicians, the directors, all the executives (producers) and the brains of this broadway drama and stage play were just geniuses. So loved and privileged to have watched this video. 🤗👏👏👏
WE'RE NOT DOING A FUCKING FILM
why'd he get upset?
My goodness,what happened?
I actually saw a tiny bit of Simon ,as Chris ❤️💕❤️
Is that Ms. Pinky Amador at 4:31??! Geez. More than half of tghe soloists are Filipinoes. So proud.
Can someone point out what happened? What's the accident they talk about? What happened and where is it? it's hard to tell. Thanks.
Wow..
Lea, monique, isay, and pinky amador
I so HEART Jonathan Pryce.
1:56 cute lea's reaction haha 2019
Watching my favorite legend, Lea. 2024🎉
Lea’s facial expression is just too cute 😊
Is that Jon Jon Briones in the back at 5:52?
Oraytt one last to go..part 5
13:04 WHO IS HE
ang cute ni lea
Thumps up
Lea salonga omg ms. Saigon
I think I saw Mr. Cocoy Laurel at 0:08. Is he included in the cast?
Across the Universe yes
Yes
@5:40 a soprano just got flat. I'm testing my hearing. Did i get it right?
Very much right. I also think a guy is sharp too.
Surely hard to work, but they are good compenionshif with German English france amirican, they, are International Musical producer's they are lucky to have Lea Salonga.
May 28th 2019 anyone?
I saw 4-5 filipino in stage including lea salonga and monique wilson❤
were they singing live in the performance
raika oxo yeah
Yes
the middle aged guy is in GOT hes the priest that made cerse " walk of shame " .
For real?
The grand maester
Walk of atonement
He is Jonathan Pryce, actually considered a topnotch actor in musical theater and films.
yes, the High Sparrow
haha i thought this, so funny! she looks so moody and bored, especially when lea is rehearsing a song around 3:50!
May 20 ,2019
nothing can beat live orchestra 🤯
Why are the ending on 'this is the hour'? it carries on in the actual show into another song. The end of the act is "I'd give my life for you"
Because it used to be different, there used to be a short sequence between this is the hour and if you want to die in bed in which Kim thinks about what she has done to Thuy and why she did it, and then a short reprise of I still believe. This is the hour reuiqred a full stop, because the next sequence started some entirely new music, but this sequence was cut after a few months, and then this is the hour transitioned into if you want to die in bed. And well, it's a vocal rehearsal, so they can pause whenever they want, can't they? :p
Enjolras MTA excellent! Thanks so much for replying and answering this question. It has been a burning question for ages!
@@cassiecinders6924 The song was Escape of Kim czcams.com/video/GqvDeXA-5Hw/video.html
Only Monique’s version is floating around though
2:03 the brass instruments were off
4:37, 12:53, & 13:37 faves
ooo thank you!! same with you these are also my favorites!
she's actually pinky amador...
It's magnificent.
Yung panali sa buhok ni Lea naalala ko uso talaga yun noong 80's hahaa. Batang 80's yo! 😁
It's very funny how utterly unimpressed Ruthie Henshall looks throughout, then she get's mown down and cries. Haha. Ensemble really wasn't for her ;)
Jonathan Pryce!!!
The ORIGINAL Engineer...
And he's fucking angry at the rehearsal!! 🤣🤣🤣
Loved him in this role!!!
I doubt she would have been even hired for Miss Saigon had they not needed a white actress to understudy for Claire Moore as Ellen! As it is I suppose she had to blend in with the East Asian woman, which was maybe why she was a bit fed up! I don't think she wore prosthetics like Jonathan Pryce and Keith Burns....?
Sometimes she's Yvette other times Yvonne.
who is the person that is sooooo mad at 12:21, and why is he mad?
Its Nicolas Hayne
and i was thinking the same. why's he mad? is he mad to Lea?
He's mad because he thinks Lea and Claude-Michel are just farting around for the camera crew when *he's* trying to get their show off the ground.
Bit of an overreaction, but there you are.
he's so mad like wtf
@@pem1974 He was actually mad at Claude and the camera man because during that time, behind the scenes was so much the in thing when making films compared to what is being done today. So he said they were not making a f....king film show hahaha.
lea salonga is so cute! 1:53
yeah she is I love her voice very much I want to be like lea
when I grow up I want to like her too
3:50
13:00 hahaha
What is that song at 10:54?
Missingmiddle A now that I've seen her
@@josefinacarrasco827 it has different lyrics from now that I've seen her... Though the melody is the same
10:53
Cute but where's Simon Bowman appearing in this
@14:00
10/22/22, 10:34 JP🇯🇵
He hella old for Lea wtf
Nash Andrew Chris the Character was supposed to be older. In the real book "Butterfly" she was 15 years old but they changed it to 17 for Miss Saigon so it's not as creepy but still Chris was technically a pedophile cuz I think he was in his mid or late twenties in the story.
Si monique ba ung nasa 12:27 kasi parang siya eh
Sunset Mind yup you’ll see her on the first rehearsal day when she stood up and introduced herself
Spat silang pinay diyan. A diyan din pinky Amador
No. That was Lea Salonga
13:41 made me cry ...
cesc ya 🥺😭
Who got hurt??
Ruthie Hernshall
2:00 Jenine Desiderio, Lea Salonga, Monique Wilson
The three original Kims! 💕
Lea Salonga - the principal Kim
Monique Wilson - Lea’s 1st understudy, later on as Lea’s alternate and the principal when Lea left for Broadway.
-Jenine Desiderio, Lea’s 2nd understudy, who would become one of Monique’s alternate when Monique took over, and the principal when Monique left
@@suzie276 I don't think Jenine was Kim.
@@bigradwolf5001 She was. Jenine started out as Lea’s understudy like Monique (1989-1991). She then became the alternate, alongside with Meera Popkin and Jamie Rivera, when Monique replaced Lea (1991-1992). After Monique left the company in 1992, Jenine took over as main Kim. Jamie Rivera was her alternate and then later on Joanna Ampil. Jenine left the role in May 1993 and Joanna took over.
There should be some audios or photos of her as Kim out there.
@@suzie276 Interesting. Thanks.
