My Father used to cry when listening to this. He has now passed and notmany things bring me to tears now I'm 50 - this is truly beautiful and makes me cry. Thank you so much for uploading. I think of him when I listen to this.
This wonderful version of Abide With Me was always played at the short service held prior to the annual Great North Run in Newcastle ,for many years . I used to enjoy these few quiet, reflective minutes, standing with thousands of other runners, on the Town Moor at the start. The service was quietly dropped eventually. A pity. It was good to rediscover this song on You Tube today. Such a great version of an old hymn.
Oh my God!! I can't believe I've found this version!! I used to listen to it when I was in school and it moved me to tears. I couldn't rememeber the choir's name and I have tried for years to find this version....thankyou thankyou thankyou!! xxx
ce que les autres commenteurs ont ressenti en ecoutant cette version moi aussi, je l'ai ressentie. Merci à celui qui à ecrit cette harmonosation. Que Dieu benisse son ministere
Many versions of this Hymm on CZcams. But this is by faaaar the most meaningful and powerful. I believe this is how this Hymm should really be sung. True rejoicing and moving me to tears even in the year 2017.
I used to listen to this version as a kid and even at like 5yrs old that guitar solo used to send shivers down my spine...23yrs later and nothing has changed!! :)
I sang this in Portsmouth Guildhall in a School Choir Concert in the 1960s when I was in Junior School we were the Salvation Army Choir the Sunbury Juniors under Captain Joy Webb.
Thank you SO much for posting this. I too bought it as a single, in circa 1986 and (also) mislaid my copy. I'm just in flood of tears, as I believed I'd never hear it again and yes that guitar solo is pure golden genuis.
From L.P "Sweet inspiration", all tracks are amazing. Recorded at CBS; Abbey Road, Angel, Air London and Livingstone Studios in 1985. Brass section: Pete Thomas, Martin Dobson, Steve Gregory and Luke Tunney. Guitars: Mitch Dalton and Ronnie Simpson. Synthesizers: Richard Gillinson, Bob Carter, Trevor Bastow and Phil Sawyer. Keyboards: John Francis. Drums: Soloman Mead Bass: Rickey Simpson
Been searching for this version for a long time. This is the "Abide With Me" to which all others aspire. Great slide show to accompany a great track. Thanks for posting
The unmistakable sound of Freddy mercury and Brian may on guitar 20 religious songs i bought this on cassette in the eighty's , came as a surprise to me but any queen fan would recognize that voice and guitar anywhere ! I think its the best version ever .
This is such a beautiful discovery in 2023. I also would like it played at my funeral and would welcome some recent information as to whether this is possible, and where I could get a copy. Really, I should like to see this rereleased as it is so powerful. Thank you.
What a stunning, stop you in your tracks, fantastic version of this, my favourite hymn. I've never really listened to gospel choirs before but was searching " Abide with Me " on here and listened to this. I just sat open mouthed and listened. Fantastic is an understatement. Thank you so much for sharing it with us
If you go on Amazon and key in (under 'Music') 'Inspirational Choir Abide with Me', it brings back an album called 'Inspirational Songs', by a group called the Inspirational Choir, featuring Abide with Me. Now I can't say for certain that it's the Inspirational Choir as heard on here, but I figured it was worth £1.98 (for a used copy) to find out. Please be aware that prices and availability can change.
Fantastic. I too have been looking for this version for about thirty years. I would definitely love it to be played at my funeral. Nothing else, just this one.Do any of you computer nerds out there know if it is possible to burn a you tube like this onto DVD. If so, how?
this is a very nice version, I must say i also like the Vic Reeves version though, a very different version indeed, however it doesn't have the loveliness of this version.
That he is an entirely fictional character who never existed is hard fact. Not one mention of him by any of 126 authors writing around that time. Michael Paulkovich - No Meek Messiah

On the second anniversary of his death I dedicate this, his favourite version, to my dear husband, Norman Amos 1933 - 2011 R.I.P.

That Jesus loves us as we are is orthodoxy. That he loves us to remain as we are is heresy.
John Allman Just wondering if you can explain that sentence to a layman like me. Im interested to try to understand what you mean!
welshdragon2008
Jesus said he came not to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.
That he is an entirely fictional character who never existed is hard fact.
Not one mention of him by any of 126 authors writing around that time.
