  • Extract from a talk by Swami Chinmayananda on "Sadhana Panchakam" of Adi Shankaracharya. Witty explanation with lot of humour and depth of Philosophy.

@adambailey8295. Don't feel disheartened for not knowing. I bet you more than 90% of Indians/Hindus wouldn't know it either. We do lot of things without knowing the symbolism behind the action. Like for example going to temple, doing namaste and touching feet or putting Tika on the forehead. The culture is rich in symbolism however appropriate knowledge hasn't been passed down to the generations. That's why precious talk like these are also helps us to educate and understand the things that we do. Indian culture adheres to the respect of the elders and room for questioning and enquiring isn't encouraged , hence you just follow the protocols without knowing the reason behind the protocols. It's ok, we cannot know everything and we all learn and grow with the passage of time. My namaskaram to you...

Pranamam, Gurudev. How fantastically Swami ji explains the principles behind the greeting methods of various people & compare them with our "Namaste". In today's world of Corona virus, the world has started realizing the eternal nature of Hindu living & have started adopting our ways!! Let us know & adopt our ancient ways.

Ancient, certainly were "Be - for" Us!!!Unity in Diversity - you and me are same (within me, like my left & right palm together on my Heart) but (without) keep Distance as I Re - Spect (look again with awe, the Difference in us). Heart is where we meet to exchange but separated by heart valves! Then we go separate (circulates in body) to Nourish & Renew our worlds (organs / Society).

My sister in law taught me a painful lesson for taking blessings from elders in the wrong way. Once I had visited her house with my wife. A person who's much older than me too had come there. While he was about to leave the place he was standing at the entrance. I bent and touched his feet with my hands to receive his blessings. My sister in law gave me one hard whack on my left bum with her hand and scolded me stating that one should NEVER take blessings from someone at the entrance of a place. My bum was punctured for a whole day and that pain made sure that i always remember how to take blessings from elders in the right way.
