  • Here's a complete broadcast of a program for the Spanish-speaking community of the Chicagoland area, Charlando, a presentation of WGN Community Affairs and aired over WGN Channel 9. The host is Peter Nuno, his guests are Robert Rodriguez, union delegate of the Progressive Steel Workers Union and Wisconsin Steel Works, concerned housewife Helen Gutierrez, and Ignacio Sanchez, former employee of Wisconsin Steel Works, the topic is the March 1980 closure of the Wisconsin Steel Works plant in southeast Chicago where 3,400 workers lost their jobs and the effect that closure has had thus far on the community, and the program, except for the first opening voiceover at the beginning and the ending voiceover, is entirely in Spanish, as are the PSA's (but not the lower thirds).
Can anyone supply a complete translation of the program?
    Includes:
WGN "Last Farewell" ID (voiceover by Len Johnson)
Segment 1, starting with show opening (voiceovers in English and Spanish by ?? and ??) and host introducing today's program
PSA for Seguro Federal Contra Crimen
Segment 2, with Peter introducing his guests and the discussion starting with Robert, Helen and Ignacio saying their pieces
PSA for Safety Seats for young children in cars
    PSA for Closer Look
Segment 3, with discussion continuing and then Peter closing the program
    Ending credits:

I remember watching Charlando while I was busy watching Saturday morning programming. Charlando, I think, lasted into the early 90s.

The 3 Spanish PSA's could have even aired on then partly Spanish station WCIU 26 at the time during the station's Spanish evening lineup.

In the NYC metro, wouldn't those PSA's have aired on WXTV Channel 41 and WNJU Channel 47?
