- At the end of February, Tom Skilling will wrap up his legendary career. He is set to retire on February 28 after 45 years of incredible work at WGN News.

I grew up watching Tom Skilling when WGN was on the superstation which I had as a kid in Deposit, New York. I watched WGN News at Noon (1pm Eastern) all the time on sick days & days off. Tom Skilling is Chicago. Best wishes on retirement and God Bless.

Such a bittersweet time for all his followers. His retirement is well deserved, but it's the loss of a Chicago icon. Tom is our "national treasure."
It is difficult to watch all of these beautiful tributes to this genuinely kind and perpetually cheerful man without feeling the tears well up. I think all of us keep wishing he'd change his mind. Tornado season just won't be the same, nor will the WGN app severe weather alerts.
Tom, you are a true legend and will be deeply missed. ❤️

The best, I no longer live in Chicago. However, the weather isn’t done right if WGN’s Tom didn’t give the weather. Most of my life. Tom Skilling is to Chicago as Jack Brickhouse is to the Cubs. They are and will always be Chicago. Good luck with all my LOVE.

Growing Up Watching WGN Newscast in Birmingham, Alabama when we had Time Warner Cable we had WGN Superstation Entertaining America with WGN News, Syndicated Programing, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox.

I was sad when he left Milwaukee but happy he was going to WHN at that time home of Chicago Cubs . Hey Hey Holy Cow. He will be missed as he as seemed like he was talking to each of us individually.

He always got way too technical and in depth for me. He absolutely loved his job.
He used to work for WITI channel 6 in Milwaukee! His brother Jeff was involved in the Enron Ponzi case. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison and fined $45 million
