    They are not that expensive anymore.. My advice is u get it for cheap compared to when it was new. Have some extra cash for routine maintenance everytime you own a BMW. Have a least some idea in fixing a car to own one. If you don't have any idea then don't buy one. This car is for the rich.. So expect to cash out some money but this car are very reliable if taken care of like any other brand of car. It's not a money pitt like everyone is saying. Most of those people are jealous so take it with a grain of salt. Peace

    They aren’t expensive at all! Just don’t take it to the dealership for repairs! I change my own oil and have had zero issues at 86,000 miles. My Sti cost more and there were all kinds of repairs, plus my insurance is $45 a month cheaper with the BMW. These cars aren’t any tougher to work on than my old Subaru. Be a man and do your own maintenance! Too many puds that think they have to take the car to a dealership because the car is “special”. Only thing more you get out of the dealership is taking it up the ass! If that’s your thing, then it will be expensive.

    These cars really aren't as bad as people seem to think. Stay on top of maintenance and few different items (like the cooling system plastic hoses and the oil leaks) and you will be fine. Being able to DIY or finding a good independent shop can make a HUGE difference. My local BMW dealership wanted over $200 for just an oil change, I did it myself with the BMW approved oil and factory MANN filter for under 50 bucks.

    2009 335 Xdrive sedan fully loaded here. Water pump failed in the first year of ownership, making the car overheat randomly at highway speeds only going into limp mode, and dealer replaced it free. regular maintenance at dealership and done all recalls. changed one set of angel eye bulbs so far, and one rear tail light. At 90,000 km rear wheel ball bearings went to shit for some reason, and it was rattling the whole rear end making grinding metallic sounds at certain highway speeds, which cost $2000 to diagnose and replace at a local mechanic. finally changed the original battery in 2019 as it was starting to fail. other than that, pushing 130,000 km, and what a fantastic car. would buy again.

    E90 owner for 11 years of a 2005 325i with 197,000 kms built in South Africa. Key issues (mainly in last 5 years) include water pump failure (had to car towed), radiator fan failure which destroyed the radiator (had to get car towed) , starter motor failure, oil filter gasket replacement to stop oil leaks and electronic oil dipstick sensor. Items that need addressing now are oil pan gasket, Bluetooth module, radio pixel display, rear trunk struts and rear LED light. The car still drives well and the motor/transmission is very smooth. The car is fitted with M-Sports suspension and low profile 18" tyres and, although the ride is very firm, is the best handling car I've ever driven.

      Change the waterpump every 50k miles? The waterpump and thermostat are $500 at discount! A waterpump for the previous generation (E46) is about $65 and about $25 for the thermostat. Early models will have problems with the high pressure fuel injectors. The issue was so prevalent that BMW upped the warranty on those to 125k miles.

    I have had the "pleasure" of owning a 2008 335 XI no for 5 yrs (bought used in 2012 with 65k on it). BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE! I will never own one of these cars again....endless money pits. Fun as hell to drive when they are operating correctly with all the maintenance but it cost a fortune to maintain. There are 4 or 5 common VERY expensive things that ALL e90s eventually need when they get over the 100k mark that make the car a very bad deal. People don't generally believe me but for the past 4 yrs I have averaged $3-4,000 per year on maintenance and repairs...that's per year. .As with sonicc below: valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, hpfp, lpfs, pcv, fuel sender unit, waterpump, starter, radiator, cooling hoses, tie rods, coilpacks. Still has original turbos and suspension at 135k so they are next to go (for which the car would be mechanically totaled) I have been trying to sell this POS for years but it won't stay "fixed" long enough. I just bought a Toyota Camry V6. The dealer offered my 1500 for a trade in on the 335...they said they know what they would be in for. I passed of course but once it gets out of the shop...yes it's in the shop again..I'm selling it for whatever I can get. There should be a class action suit against BMW for the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, water pump, radiators, and turbos.

      You've got to pay to play. I promise you will be much happier with a BMW. I maintain my car as perfect as possible. Also my tires probably run double what prius tires cost. Gaskets fail I'd venture a guess that your prius has some failing gaskets. It's really not that bad.

      I'm in a similar position as Daniel, Prius owner debating buying a bimmer (I've always wanted one, and will get one eventually, whether it's now or later is more of the concern)
      I have a 2010 Prius with 99,700 miles and it's fine apart from the under carriage cover falling off all the time. I just got it fixed at a body shop, babied it ever since, and it fell down again and I know I didn't hit anything. The body shop and dealer seem to think I should just be contented with the fact the under cover falls from plain driving?
      It sounds trivial but it's happened four times in the past three years and is not drivable when it occurs. However since it's not mechanical I'm not totally convinced it's time to move on to a new car yet (even though I want to)
      I can afford a lease on a 320i for three years, and even the uptick in gas, but I'm more concerned about service and repairs.
      I miss driving a car that i actually felt connected to the road with.

      Simplest way to put it is that, you can't really expect to own a premium luxurious driver's car and expect to pay for maintenance like it is a Toyota. It really depends on what you want out of your car when you are shopping. I often think cars are modern horses. You can't expect a fancy race horse to perform at its finest while feeding it with regular food and pay minimum attention with taking cares like what people do with a regular work horse.

    The clutch gave out at around 148K on the highway, but I was able to get it to a shop by forcing it into gear. Cost for new clutch ~$1300
    Oil leaking from the oil filter housing and the giving tensioner caused the serpentine belt to slip off once but did not get chewed up, new belt and leak fixed for under $200.
    The starter motor died at around 149K, I changed it out myself in about 7 hours for $90
    Next on the list are fixing the oil leaks on the valve cover gasket & oil pan gasket, new VANOS solenoids, coils n plugs.
    It's a great car. I love the inline 6 and the 6-speed.

    3 items that failed, and seem unusual: the valve cover gasket, then the valve cover (because it developed a crack), then the radiator (because it developed a crack). About $1600 for the valve cover gasket, spark plugs, and some hoses. Then about $700 for a new radiator. BMW motors have plastic parts that eventually fail. Other than that, the car is reliable, and fun to drive (2009 328i).

      My Toyota 4Runner has gone over 200k miles in 15 years and the only things ive done is change the oil every 8000 miles and put new tires on it every 70k miles. The only time i went to the dealership was for my timing chain at 120k. Its the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned and it still drives like new. My wife has a loaded Camry that is 12 years old and has not given us any problems at all. Just the basic maintenance is all you need to do and Toyotas will last alot longer and be cheaper to maintain than BMWs. My father still has his 88 LandCruiser that he bought new and he hasnt had any trouble with it. He must have over 200k miles on it. My friend from high school just gave his Toyota Starlet he got from graduation to his son that is graduating from high school. He modified heavily and has raced it over the years and that little car just keeps going and going. I have to say that your evaluation of japanese cars is completely wrong. The cost of ownership and reliability for japanese cars is way lower and more reliable than most european cars hands down. We dont have any oil leaks or ignition coil problems or vanos problems that could kill our engines at a early age. Im sure there are some japanese lemons out there but for the most part, japanese cars are more reliable and will not cost you a small fortune to maintain in the long run. My Toyotas are proof of that!

If you take out the blower, not hard, maybe set a size 2-3hrs for avg diyer, and hit it with spray lube like chain lube. It has good creep properties and stays put for a long time. WD40 just doesn't last long, but that'll work for a little while. Otherwise, just replace it if you have an extra $200. I'd try the spray lube first.

    My 2007 M Sport 320i has never needed anything other the the usual routine maintenance apart from a central locking attenuator replacement. However the engine died and I lost all electric power a couple of weeks ago, shortly after, the engine warning light would illuminate every now and again.
    I had the car checked by my (non-BMW) garage who after all the diagnostic examinations and physical tests found no obvious fault so the car was booked in for more extensive diagnostics. This gave spurious readings so it appeared to be a one-off, possibly caused by my low, city, short ho mileage, driving of late misleading the emissions sensor, so no safety issue, we agreed I’d carry on and report back.
    Now it turns out there is a massive world wide recall of various BMW models, E90 included. I would not have known had there not been a fatal accident involving such an incident and the Media announced this just recently.
    No word to me from BMW and they’ve been inaudible with statements generally however everybody now knows because of the news items, I contacted them so it’ll be sorted but not for another week, I can smell a multi-party law suit on the horizon!

    I enjoy the DIY of BMW's
    I had some hoses leaking around my Turbo''s. The the hoses has just became loose around the metal tubing and the compression clamps need to be squeezed more. I took it to Lake Norman BMW dealership and they quoted me 2500 dollars. They said the turbos had to come off. LOL, that's ridiculous, low mile car and the turbos had to come off to fix a water leak? They also said the vacuum lines needed replaced, AT 75k MILES ??? And a few other things that turned out to be fake news. I found an independent shop who turned out to be VERY Responsible, I asked them to look into these claims the dealership quoted me on and change it. The inde shop said it was very unnecessary and recommended not to do it.
    A lot of things on a BMW you can DIY. BUT an example of how particular these cars are;
    1- Changing a battery? Throw out everything you know about changing a battery in a BMW, If you change a battery in a BMW you will need to REGISTER the battery through the computer. Easy to do, just need www.mycarly.com/ or similar.
    2- If you drain a large amount of Radiator fluid out of your BMW cooling system, Throw out what you know about putting cooling fluid in another car, YOU WILL Need to use a vacuum pump to refill you coolant system or you may cause cavitation to the pump or pumps and ruin them. Google Coolant vacuum system.
    Find an indy shop that specializes in exotic or BMW cars.. NOT JUST any shop will do, these are BMW's. Stay as far away from the BMW dealerships as you can, they are liars.

    Water pump WILL fail every 50-100k
    Oil leaks very likely- oil filter gaskets, valve cover gaskets every 50k miles
    Valve cover around 100k
    Coil packs & plugs only last about 40k
    Control arm bushings every 50k
    Belt tensioner 80-100k
    Paint wear on front bumper starting at 60-75k
    Intermittent transmission issues starting at 100-125k
    Random misfires/lean codes starting 100-125k
    Fuel pump 100k
    Faster than normal tire wear due to slight camber
    Faster than normal break/rotor wear (about every 10-25k)
    A lot of carbon build up (walnut blast every 50k)
    Weatherstrip and trim fade/crack starting at 75k
    DTC lag starting at 100k
    Valvetronic issues starting 125-150k
    Fuel injectors 125k
    O2 sensor and Mass airflow sensors every 50-75k
    Catalytic converter 125k
    Cylinder head wear 125k
    Radiator fan modulator 100-150k
    Vacuum leaks 150k
    7qt full European synthetic oil change every 5k
    Coolant resivoir leaks, wiper fluid resivoir leaks possible
    Torque converter and crankshaft failure poosible around 200k
    Car was about 38000, spent about 20000 in repairs over 200k miles, at which point it becomes beyond economical to further repair pending engine, transmission and suspension failures likely between 200-250k miles. If you go with a n54 expect about twice the problems

      Dude what N51 has carbon build up it is port injected...

    • @NinjasDTA
      @NinjasDTA Před 5 lety

      @@BMWE90HQ since the e90 features a pcv crankcase ventilation system, carbon build up can present itself in the intake valve. Since i was running a higher compression rich tune with aftermarket intake, it likely accelerated the buildup to near that of a GDI engine

    230k miles only thing wrong is catalytic converter code. Deleted it and saved 3 grand for a muffler that shops were itching to charge us

    Great video bro. I own an 2001 E46 330i Msport, sitting at 188,200 km's. It's super reliable, however it's much older than your car and definitely showing it's age in regards to typical maintenance. I've put $4.4K in maintenance at my workshop, it's pretty disheartening but i love BMW's. I'm considering the E90 as an Upgrade this year so i'm looking at reviews and this is kind of the same as owning an E46. Oh and i also subbed, keep releasing videos man! Greetings from New Zealand.

      @BMWE90HQ  Před 6 lety

      Glad to have you ! Thanks for the sub! I’ve never owned an e46 so I’m not speaking 100% from experience but at least as far as the n52 is concerned I believe it is more somewhat more reliable and easier to work on than the M54 motor. The n54 and n55 are not much more complicated than the n52.

    I think that cold air blowing from driver`s vents is ok. Mine e28 520i does the same. It is meant to prevent driver from getting sleepy when it is cold.Warm air really can do that in winter . I read it somewhere.

    Hey I am looking at getting a 328i (E90 or F30, not sure yet), but one thing for sure is that I don't want stuff breaking and leading to worse problems. How did you know all this stuff needed fixing? I would be willing to do these fixes no questions asked but how do you know what needs fixing?

    • @BMWE90HQ
      @BMWE90HQ  Před 6 lety

      Oil leaks are easy to check for you just have to look maybe once a month and know where to look. Most of these problems are very well documented. A few times I got a Service engine soon light. Lots of time on e90post lol.

      Best thing to do is to get a ODBI code reader. There are bluetooth enabled ones now so you can see exactly what the faults are instead of waiting for the mechanic to maybe tell you

    From experience owning a 2006 325i for a year, seriously don't do it. Put around $3000 into the car over my ownership and that car only had 80k miles. I finally had enough and sold it. Ended up getting a 2012 G37. Yes the 335i is amazing but after owning one of BMW's most "reliable" models, I couldn't put myself through owning a 335i.

      I could've swore these were a factory wheel, made by BBS. I have a hard time keeping up with BMW factory wheels. I've been paying closer attention lately because I'm in the market for a nice, single-owner, naturally-aspirated 3 Series, w/Sport Pkg..
