    what an awesome dad. this kid is going to remember this stuff his whole life. All I wanted to do when I was his age is work on anything with a motor. Ironically, my father never wanted me to help him work on the car because he was forced too as a kid and thought he would be doing me a dis-service. To this day, my hobbies include working on anything with a motor lol

      Thank you Matt. We made three bikes and i can tell you that the cheapest way to go is to buy a rolling chassis with maybe a none running engine. You can modify it however you like it by installing more powerful engine, new torque converter or even bigger tires. To start from scratch and to get all the parts form different web sites would be too pricey and time consuming. Good luck with your build and appreciate you checking out my video.

    i remember as a kid and racing minibikes at the Saddleback Motorcycle Park in Santiago Canyon, Southern California. I was sponsored and raced for " The Hawk " Racing Team. I rode a modified Zebra Mini Bike, with a 6 horse Techumshe motor punched out with a mikuni 26 carburetor running nitro methane using a torque convertor putting 12 horse to the rear wheel. I was clocked at speeds in access of 60 to 70 miles per hour. Those were the day's.

    I am 50+ and started riding mini bikes about Dannys age. have riden bikes my entire life and still own a street bike and a smaller sized dirt bike. at least twice helmets have saved my life.

    "factory oil" is break-in oil, should be used for initial operation. the "heat shield" is actually a shroud that directs cooling air around engine. it needs to be in place to prevent overheating and premature engine wear. and safety glasses ( i should know, had metal in my eye 3 times. i was wearing glasses twice!! ) .
    good "talent" and direction. that young man may go places. thanks

    • @btchhopperou812
      @btchhopperou812 Před 10 lety

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh Před 7 lety

      You do not run the engine with that "oil" when you unbox it. That is what is left when the put the motors together at the factory. Get rid of that watery mixture immediately and add real oil 10w30. They say let it run 3 hours than change the oil. I put it to use for 3 hours and than change it, no point having it just sit their and run 3 hours. Also if you do decide to do it that way, clamp the engine down its not good to be vibrating violently on the ground like that. The engine he took off was built by the same manufacture as the non hemi predotor he put on chongqing. In the baja manual it says change the oil after the first 20 hours, so that is not set in stone. Tecumseh was around the same for break in period 10 hours. The first predator I got I never broke on and its fine 4 years later. It went on a snowblower and threw snow from the very beginning. The oil was changed after about 90 hours of hard use. Their tough little engines at an unbeatable price.

      +Ettel Chava Rosenbaum Whats scary is that all the things that my generation did as kids don't exist like they did. Now my hometown is full of teens dying from drugs. Parents associate a quiet kid buried in his iPad as content, and being good. I see a kid eating rat poising. Instead of sheltering your child, Educate them. Teach them how to use and play with things that can be dangerous. Teach them safe practices, and a good understanding of the consequences of not following those safe practices. Knowledge is power.

      Yes sir, predators are cheap, reliable and disposable motors. I bet that by the time you kill a predator you'll loose interest in your bike or go kart and probably move on to bigger better things. My kid installed this motor two years ago and since then he already sold it and got another pit bike. In other words this motor is worth every penny and will last long enough for you to grow out of your toy.

      Your bike sounds like a winner. Does re-jeting the carb help in any way? i might do that to our bike.

    • @automaniac2106

      +balabay77 yes it helps throttle response and with all the upgrades the engine is working harder therefore it needs more fuel and the bigger jets help that

    This is a newbie question but would this be a necessary addition if you were to swap the engine or is it just a way to boost the speed and engine performance? I just know that they're fairly expensive.

      Torque converters are not necessarily unless you want smoother acceleration, higher top speed and overall extend the life of your engine. CVT adjusts the ratio on its own and allows your engine run in optimal rpm. I personally prefer them over clutches because my bike goes twice as fast now (40-45 mph) compared to centrifugal clutch (25mph). Ebay sells them around $75 for knock off Comet set. It all comes down to your preference but I do recommend trying one at least once in your life. Cheers.

    I wish my parents let me do this. I'm 15 and my mom doesn't care that I drive my friends go kart at 40 mph but she won't let me spend my OWN money on one that doesn't go as fast. My dad just does what my mom says. He's gotta man up and speak for himself because he wants me to get one.

    balabay77 did you have to drill extra hole's in the mounting plate to install to the predator engine to make it line up with the chain properly or was just cutting the bottom of the plate a little enough ? thanks

    • @balabay77
      @balabay77  Před 10 lety

      Cutting the torque converter was good enough (for the bike in the video) and i used the same holes to secure the engine. On our other bike "Hawg Ty" that's painted black we had to re-drill 4 holes to get it lined up with the rear sprocket.

      Vince Kucharski Hi Vince
      If you are asking about Clutches than your average centrifugal clutch can go up to 25 miles per hour (40km/h).
      With torque converter you gain more speed. Top speed is around 50 miles per hour (80km/h)

    Why not loosen the pull starter housing and rotate it counter clockwise so it can easily be pulled while straddling the bike?

      Hi Eric
      You can find these torque converters on eBay for dirt cheap. Here’s a link rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F271891082590
