I’ve been a Washburn and Rutland user for about 2-3 years. I’d ordered 2 new tires in the wrong size for my son’s xxs canyon. I contacted them, got authorization for a return and a code. I followed directions to a “T” and mailed back. That was the last I’ve heard of them. Now I’m out the tires and the money. Follow up emails to support have been ignored. I’m now an ex-user & won’t recommend these anymore. In fact the opposite. Ripping a guy off for $150 cost them a loyal customer and who knows how many future purchases from me and those I convince to look elsewhere.
Thanks for your review. Wish I’d had the information about a year ago. I to have had the same experience with the washburns I got. My problem was that they both blew off the rims when inflated just past the 40psi when seating the beads. I to have the side to side wobble plus one has a hop in it. I’ve since switched to specialized pathfinders and couldn’t be happier. Thanks again for your input
I was looking at the Washburns but saw reviews about how hard they are to mount online. Now I've seen your thoughts I think I'll pass on them now. Thanks and sorry to hear about your monetary losses. Cycling stuff is expensive enough without throwing money away on bad products!
I just seated some Cannonballs. It took a bit of effort to get them onto the rim, but I prefer that over them going on too easily and me being worried about burping them running lower PSI.
I had wobbly casings on two sets of conti terra trails. They were the Chinese versions though with silver text. They used to be made in France but now China. I run pIrellis now and no issues. I previously ran teravail Rutlands and found them to be great but I can’t remember how true they ran now. I totally agree though, these damn tyres are as expensive as car tyres now so they should be 💯 perfect. No excuses. Bike shop should’ve refunded you straight up. That’s annoying. Your contract is with them therefore the obligation to resolve it lies with them. I would’ve demanded a refund.
Fellow teravail cannon ball user, for me I only had the slightly wobbly casing issue. And had the opposite experience on seating the tires. I could even get them onto my hand the first time and I get inflated with a floor pump. Guess it's luck of the draw for seating the tires.
Thanks Bennett! That checks out with my experience too, my Cannonball casings seemed to be a lot more symmetrical than my Washburns. They have a slight wobble in comparison to more dramatic wobble on the Washburns I have. Mine have all been super tight on the rim though. No telling - could just be batch variance.
Thanks for your review. I've noticed everything that you mentioned too with my Washburns. What's a good tire that you recommend? I like the semi slick of the Washburn bc I can ride on road and on gravel, but I'm looking to switch.
Ive heard great things about specialized Pathfinders from every person I met riding them. That said, most folks I know love the terravail tires so it's hard to go off the consensus sometimes. I'll probably pick up specialized, schwalbe, or panaracer gravel kings based on prices or sales when it comes time to get new tires though
I've used both, and I would say they have similar characteristics. The most extreme wobble I had was on durable casings though. I also have completely cut through a durable casing on pretty mild gravel, but that could be a one off thing.
are you in USA? I'm curious, coz I run a shop in the UK and it's our responsibility to deal with any issues (warranty/refund). Anything purchased from us is for us to deal with. I'd simply give a full refund or a new tyre of your choice (the same value).
Hey! Yes I am in the US and it can go either way here. I was a disappointed with the shop's response - I half expected the shop to give me a new tire and deal with their distributor. But I also didn't hold it against them as it is a small shop and no telling how tight margins are or that kind of thing.
Guys - I said "QBC" a million times because I'm an idiot. I meant to say "QBP" which is the actual industry giant I was referring to.

Yeah it's a shame because I really wanted to like them. I'm still riding mine right now, but will pick up specialized when the time comes to replace.
Man I love my Specialized Sawtooths , been on them almost a year now and they are fast and grippy 😊
Yeah I've heard nothing but good things about specialized tires. To be fair, I've heard great things about terravail but more mixed reviews.

Thanks man, and yeah I don't want to tell you not to get something you like. But honestly specialized seems more promising.
Thanks for the information 👍
Thanks for watching!

Yeah I get that. Im fine with it mounting tight if the other problems didn't exist too.

Yeah agreed. Im still a bit frustrated about the whole experience.

Which casing, durable or supple?

They’re heavy and expensive. There are better options out there that are more competitively priced and lighter.
100% agree
