What Happened To Hannibal Rising?

- Well, just a few months beforehand the same choice, to explain and demystify the background of one of horror’s most mysterious monsters was made for Hannibal Lecter as well. At least with this version, however, that story would at the very least come from the character’s creator himself; novelist Thomas Harris. In a tale as old as time that will probably reincarnate itself over and over until the end of time….Hell hath no fury like a producer who wants a sequel. Prequel. Remake. Whatever. This is the story of What happened to Hannibal Rising. Or “the one without Anthony Hopkins.”

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: What Happened To This Horror Movie?

RIP Gasoard. One of my favorite actors.
Was he the same bloke from the annoying adverts at Christmas for the aftershave?
Yeah, he did some cologne commercials. He was also in Moonknight on Disney plus
I liked Hannibal Rising!
It gave a good background to Hannibal's experience in medicine as a young man.
And to his rough childhood, and his penchant for vengeance against wrongdoers, due to his little sister, Mischa meeting such a horrific end
It's not great by any stretch.. but I don't know, I actually _liked_ Hannibal Rising. Never thought I would, either.. and a lot of it actually had to do with Gaspard's acting.. which I thought for SURE I'd be disappointed with. He proved me wrong, though. I really liked the tree kill scene, when he's reciting the tune back at the dude, and he really gets crazy into it! Brutal kill scene.
__
I did NOT even know that he has since died!😮 I literally just found out in this video and comment section.. damn..
RIP. Tragic..
I honestly enjoyed the movie
I did aswell
Hannibal Rising is a good movie. Not a great one, not a masterpiece, but a good, interesting movie with more good than bad.
I completely agree with you, I saw it at the cinema and I throughly enjoyed it
Agreed, never understood the hate for this movie.
R.I.P. Gaspard Ulliel
Your arguments went right out the door when you said the film was missing Anthony Hopkins. So a man in his elder years was supposed to play a 20 year old in 2006?
It´s as if an original film was an insane idea or something like that due to how much the IP was connected to a character of a certain age... Hm.
Actually he mentioned the age gap and made an ironic comment about it, mocking how the age gap was dealt on 'Saw X"
I understood what he meant, and is that if you talk about Hannibal, your association goes to Anthony in the first place
Gaspard made an awesome work, he owned it, and made it his
The same way Mads made the character his on the series
Not to mention that almost no one remembers that Brian Cox was the first to portray the character
No one can deny that if you name Hannibal Lecter, even in memes, always goes to Anthony
How long did it take everyone to realize this was Mike from WWAM?
I’m all for it
Hey thanks for being cryptic… but I looked it up and all I got was “Michael Myers from We Watch a movie”… wtf are you actually referencing and why? I’m just curious lol
@@macrous2120 You looked up the right thing lol. Michael Myers is played by Mike Holtz from. We watched a movie
@@macrous2120its a youtube channel. Had to look it up myself
I enjoyed Hannibal Rising on it's own as a young teen when I happened to see it before knowing of Silence of the Lambs. While it doesn't hold up to The Silence of The Lambs at all, and I like to not consider it related to the series, it was a decent "popcorn movie" and I've seen far worse
It might be the weakest, but tbh I was born in 92 so I was like a kid kid when the others came out, but this I was 15 and getting into horror more. It opened the doors for the rest for me.
I’ve never heard “Orion” pronounced that way before and never want to hear it pronounced that way again! 😂
I loved it. RIP Ulliel. I guess that's why skiers wear helmets more than usual nowadays.
I dug this flick.
I loved this movie. Great revenge movie❤❤❤
Mads Mickelson in the TV show Hannibal does just about as good a job as Anthony Hopkins
Yeah that was a really good show!!!
Mads was better.
The biggest misstep in this movie is when at the end he bites into a guys face, rips off a chunk, and then spits it out. SPITS IT OUT?? He’s Hannibal the CANNIBAL. Fools.
I hear Mike, I listen all the way through. I mean, I do that anyway, but it makes it extra special
I won't be surprised if Thomas Harris sabotaged this so there would be no more movies 🤷♂️
Somehow Thomas Harris being forced to write a prequel under the threat of having his work bastardized without him by the De Laurentiis somehow led to a not so great book and an equally subpar by the numbers film. How didn’t this genius plan not work? 🤷♂️
I like Rob Zombie's Halloween 1 and 2 and I like Hannibal Rising. Not bad considering what's coming out these days eh
I loved it. Hannibal is more of an anti hero than a villain and the antagonists are pure evil. Plus Gong Li is breathtakingly exquisite.
"Nothing happened to me, agent
Starling! I happened!"
I find that much more compelling!
Now I wasn't crazy about the movie either. I didn't really think we needed Hannibal Lecter's past to be demystified for us. However, the thing about the relationship between Lecter and Lady Murasaki, yes, there is an edge of forbidden romance to it, but a far cry from incest. Lady Murasaki was not Lecter's aunt (quite obviously) in the genetic linkage/blood relative way, but simply because she was married to Lecter's father's brother. There may be some taboo vibe to it, but not so much so that it's totally beyond the pale.
I've seen this movie before but my brain 🧠 deleted all memory of it until now 😆
CILF 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That was incredible!
Hahaha help i am stuck in the dryer.
cut this kid some slack, he had to portray one of the most iconic vilain in cinema and imho he did a great job at it.
I'm glad they told this part of the story.
The Hannibal book was the first to reveal what happened to Hannibal that turned him into what he is. Rising just show us more clearly what happened. And Uliel was fucking great as young Hannibal. The whole movie was great, same league as the other movies as the franchise, though Rising is a totally different beast. Still, just great as the other 3 movies
MIKE??
Good for you, sir.
HR is one of the only origin story movies I enjoy & the actor did a hell of a job with the material. Silence, Hannibal, HR, & Red Dragon are their own movies in this world. I appreciate them as their own movies, rather than all the same universe cuz they don't feel connected much. JM as Clarice IS different than JF, but she works for Hannibal... 🙂
RIP, Gaspard Ulliel.
To me: Not as great as Silence of the Lambs but I like this movie because it explains how Lector became the monster he was. To me, it explains what twisted this poor boy's mind. I can understand his hatred, his sickness and his reason for becoming a monster. I am not crazy about the way that the plot with the step-mom plays out, but I DO love the fact that he searches down these men and kills them. Love this movie. Hands Down, My fav Hannible Movie.
I wouldn't mind a final film. Have Clarice and Will (from Red Dragon) team up to finally hunt down and bring an end to Hannibal. Obviously, all the original actors should be back.
Actually clarice and hannibal run away together lol
Clarice and hannibal get together in the end of hannibal.
That's the books ending. They changed the ending of the movie so that he didn't brainwash her, and he escaped without her.
Richard Brake for, The Joker!
The actor in this movie gave me BIG Crispin Glover vibes.
since st patrick's day is coming up can you do wtf happened to leprechaun origins?
I loved this move and watched it multiple times.
I have never heard anyone pronounce Orion Pictures like that before.
Lov this movie, great prequel story. Didn't realise he died 😢
Nought wrong with this movie.
Been a fan of Harris's novels since I was 14. When the book Hannibal Rising was published, I bought a copy ASAP and read it quickly. To my dismay, it was not very good, and didn't have much of the heavily detail oriented style Harris was known for. It read more like a novelization of a movie, which in a sense, it was. Saw the movie opening weekend, despite my misgivings, and the few things I'd actually liked in the book were left out. And despite some good performances, it all just felt lifeless.
Overall, just a really poor end to a once-great series. Harris was clearly under pressure to deliver, because they were going to make a Hannibal origin movie with or without him...but given how it turned out, I wish it was without him. Because the novel is the biggest letdown. Bad movies based on existing properties are a dime a dozen, but a bad Thomas Harris book is a damn shame.
Hehe. Mike be like, we watched a movie with JoBlo! (honestly forgot who i clicked on for a sec, lol)
I'll only said this:
RIP Gaspard Ulliel
I step up and applaud him
May he shine doing his art wherever he is
I might not liked this movie as much as the others, but it was a pretty good movie.
I've never read the book, so I stay clean on a 8.5/10 for *Hannibal rising*
Is one I watch once in a while, as I do re watch the whole franchise (including the series) because I love it
And 10/10 for Ulliel
He was amazing
"O-Ryan"
It's a good origin movie, is basic and it tells you who he was before becoming a cannibal, he only finds out about his sister right at the end.
Just pretend the prequel never happened I prefer to think of Hannibal as a self made monster whose mental process allows him to transcend conventions.
This was a good film and way better then Halloween remake, the film is beautifully directed
i fucking loved this movie tho ❤
Mads Mikkelsen was the better young Hannibal Lecter.
As a very roundabout backstory of how that one guys head ended up in a jar in the first movie, it’s alright. You have to admit that the head looked really cool and that it bugged you for the rest of Silence of the Lambs that Hannibal didn’t give a truthful explanation as to how it got in there.
I think this film is good and I enjoy it more than both Manhunter and Hannibal (the movie, not the TV show).
I honestly like all of the actors and performs in this movie but a Hannibal rising movie just was really unnecessary the actor who portrayed Hannibal Lecter just had way too big of shoes to fill he was never gonna fill them it’s not a terrible movie there are things I liked and there are things I did not like but I think they should’ve kept Hannibal rising on the shelf
I don't like how they made Hannibal an anti-hero.
Monsters are made by monsters 🤷
@@BloodlessJGNo.
Well to bad he is lol.
Underrated movie imo
Can someone tell me WTF HAPPENED 2 JOBLO???
You happened.
I thought Jonathan Rhys-Meyers played Hannibal in this movie literally right up until the credits rolled.
All handsome white guys look the same? ^^
This was a great movie he played his role on point
I'm a big fan of the books and the films... and I thoroughly enjoyed this film and origin story. It felt like a solid edition to the lector lore itself. I think a bookend scene would have been good but still... hannibal isn't some boogey man... he's a cold calculated killer/anti-hero of sorts... and with all the true crime stories out there, who doesn't like an origin story that explains someone like him? The culture, the elegance, the technical mindset, the calculated killer... how did this man become this? I loved it.
The scene he ate the face of someone for the first time 😂🤣
Why did you "Orion" like that?
I enjoyed this movie it’s not the best but I enjoyed it!
Never saw it
Gaspard could have played the Joker. & I don’t mean that as an insult. 🃏
I honestly don’t remember the pseudo incest plot. Maybe I blocked it out. I do remember being the only one in the theater watching it.
I had/have such a huge crush on Gaspard.
Its “or-Ryan” pictures.
I liked this movie.
I enjoyed the movie, but I prefer the book. There have been mentions of his childhood in previous books and movies, but this felt so unnecessary.
4:30 . I straight up thought that was jack black 😮
I need to stop smoking weed
I recognize this voice 😂🤙🏻
Has jo blo always been, we watched a movie?
mateeee..........i would recognise that voice anywhere 😂😂😂 good shit mike good shite
I quite like hannibal rising. It's not great but it's a good watch and pretty well made.
Mads Mikkelsen is the ultimate Hannibal in my opinion. Anthony Hopkins seems downright cheesy to me in comparison.
I saw it in the theater and remember almost nothing about it. Only that I didn’t like it. I really love this series too.
I disagree. I liked Hannibal Rising and I wanna read the book as well. It's the only one I haven't read. Can't please everyone. But then again some people like Pet Semetary 2. I just don't get that one.
He knew what he wanted until...he didn't.
I really enjoyed Hannibal rising
SAW X was actually decent, right?!
Really not that bad of a movie. Nothing incredible but totally watchable.
Some weird criticisms here, honestly. Why would Anthony Hopkins be playing Hannibal in a movie set when he's supposed to be like 40 years younger?
And the way dude said "Orion" here really irked me, lol. I mean, what was that?
I actually think his acting was awesome.
I love Hannibal rising
Oreeyon pictures
Old bologna
Oh, hi, Mike!
This movie was literally just on the Pluto TV Horror channel for like the zillionth time. It’s sooooo boooorrrring.
Yup, boring ass movie. Thankfully we got the Hannibal tv series afterwards.
RIP Gaspard Ulliel. I liked the movie, sue me. I also preferred Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal. Sue me twice.
this movie was pretty damn good. ur are totally off base. u know that Hopkins was in his late 80's when this came out, right?
My biggest problem with the movie was the introduction of the villains. They burst in, and the camera cuts and lingers on each of them, gritting their teeth and growling in such corny fashion. Took me out of it.
Obviously someone who did not read the books.
A lil' surprised Rob Zombie didn't have Michael Myers freebasing meth and joining the Aryan brotherhood. He disgraced the Halloween franchise. His movies and music are garbage
Very true, and WAY too many people feel the opposite.
Loved all the novels and I loved all the movies except Red dragon. Hannibal rising and manhunter are both better movies than Red dragon
Really I thought Red Dragon was pretty good
@@ryanchoate9146 it wasn't bad. None of the movies are bad. Just that Red dragon had already been done and been done better.
I love the Hannibal TV series too.
The narrator of this video is basically saying that anything with Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal lector is automatically better than anything where any other actor plays lector, and I disagree
The way he pronounced orion 😂
O ree on
I’ve seen worse 😊
As have i.
I don’t understand not liking the movie because of the gore…? It’s a story about a cannibalistic serial killer and his origins…😳Make it as realistic as possible to show the true horror. Don’t watch a slasher type movie if you don’t want to see blood😳😂
Rob Zombie, never liked him much tbh
This movie is terrible, I seen it at the movies and was literally cursing myself, total farce.
You mean the Best Halloween film in the franchise, and the Second best Hannibal movie (of course Silence of the Lambs being #1)
