      Funny enough, Sutherland in 2011 gave Daniel Sedin a penalty for getting punched in the face by Brad Marchand in the 2011 finals. When Sedin was asked after why he got a penalty, it was because he asked the ref "when were you going to call a penalty? After the 6th punch??” or along the lines, and got a misconduct penalty.

      refs have been doing this game management bullshit for decades, almost definitely under the direction of the NHL (there's just no evidence yet). they don't want to seem biased by making an uneven number of calls (or just making too many calls) in a playoff game, but this just means they are biased towards whichever team is committing more penalties, because they will never call all of them, and will call crappy ones against the other team to "compensate".
      the problem in this game was a little different since the missed calls went both ways. so although it was pretty even, there should have been waaay more PP time, which probably would have benefitted the Oilers more.

      That’s wasn’t too many men. You can argue it should be as Kevin Bieska did but by the rule he didn’t play the puck or directly contact anyone before the Canucks player left the ice.
      The oilers got away with 3 dangerous plays that should have been penalties 2 of which were intentional to injure.
      Kane slew foot, mcdavid slash to the face , and nurse boarding.
      But this is the NHL and they don’t officiate based on that they do it based on giving each team the same PPs and keeping the score close. So I’m pretty sure the officials don’t want to give Edmonton power plays as they will score so they won’t give the Canucks power plays as that would force them to find calls on the Canucks to even it up.

    Being a long time goalie(30 years of playing), yes RVH is terribly overused by goalies. In fact, it has degraded the quality of NHL goaltending. I have a basic, old school approach. Don't go down unless the shot is waist level or lower! It is a lot easier being upright and going down in the butterfly than reverse. What puzzles me, the goalies teammates are going down to block a shot and the goalie still goes down into the butterfly! Frankly, I'm tired of Game analysts saying it was a great shot upper shelf. I say to myself, " no it was not a great top shelf shot if the goalie wasn't already going down into the butterfly!"
    Regarding officiating, it's embarrassing what it has come too to this point! If it continues like this, a player will get severely hurt, and it will force the NHL's hand to do something about it. How officiating is called in the game does effect the risk of the players health.

    The officiating has been HORRIBLE. It's funny because last year, when the Oilers played Vegas, I came away hating the Golden Knights. This year, I have a lot of respect for the Canucks themselves, I just hate the refs. I do really want to know what on earth happened to lead up to that spear from Derek Ryan. He's usually very calm and is one of the last Oilers I'd ever expect to see that from.

  • @dkhdkh9606
    @dkhdkh9606 Před 20 dny +1

    It’s like no one has seen a missed call before. Anyone watching oilers games would see multiple missed infractions against McD nearly every game. That high stick was not malicious or intentional. Derek Ryan pulled a dirty one and should be addressed by the league.
    BTW, Z’s goal was scored with too many men on the ice. Maybe too inconvenient to mention for some people pushing a narrative I guess.

    • @PaulSchober
      @PaulSchober Před 19 dny

      Not intentional? Watch it again in slo-mo. McDavid can be seen glancing at the approaching Hughes then looks back towards the puck and lifts his stick to his face just as Hughes skates by. That was no accident.

  • @brianholm1404
    @brianholm1404 Před 20 dny

    We're NOT talking Janmark being boarded or Hyman taking a high stick to the face before McDavid? I mean, if we're going to complain, let's do all of it. McDavid SHOULD have been given a 4 minute major, but there were plenty of other calls that were missed before that happened.

With that being said there was 3 majors the oilers commited this game that never got called and possibly two of them could have been game misconducts. Along with about 12 other missed holding, crosschecking and hooking penatlies. And im from edmonton lol. All this says to me. The league wants this to go to 7 games.

    Absolutely brutal! The one that really sets me off is the after the fact interference call on Hoglander to even up the call after Ryan spears his nuts! Watch the ref: Hoglander checks Ryan, nothing…Ryan spears him, the ref slowly, hesitantly raises his arm. They huddle up and miraculously pull an interference call out of their corrupt behinds. WWE scripted games at this point. Sad.

    • @Jsmith32t
      @Jsmith32t Před 20 dny

      I dunno, if you watch Frame by frame you see Hughes putting himself in that situation, trying to body check Mcdavid while simultaneously going for the puck carrier, trying to do too many things at once. Mcdavid is just avoiding the check and keeps the stick at shoulder height (not high stick), if he puts the stick lower then it’s a hook, interference, or trip on Hughes. The way I see it, Hughes missed the body check, and thereby put his head too low in a high speed situation and cut himself on Mcdavid stick. So yes Hughes did that to himself.

    • @LukeVenables
      @LukeVenables Před 20 dny +1

      @@Jsmith32tI get what you're saying but it's a bit of a stretch to say that isn't a high stick. He brings it straight up into his face. They're both maybe a bit low but they're both at that height for a reason-they're skating. The ref obviously agrees with you though so what do I know?

    • @blindidiot382
      @blindidiot382 Před 20 dny +3

  • @AL4140
    @AL4140 Před 20 dny +2

    The Canucks got 2 shots on net in the 3rd period. No amount of “missed calls” will change that. You Canuck fans need to understand that, A, the refs miss calls. It goes both ways. B, it’s playoff hockey, they let more stuff go to keep the game faster and more intense.
    Remember when your coach got Bettman to give both teams a warning about embellishment?? (That’s a classic Tochet move btw). Well that means less calls are going to be made.
    It’s ok, I understand you Canuck fans are inexperienced with the way the game is played in the Playoffs. lol

    • @blindidiot382
      @blindidiot382 Před 20 dny +1

      2 shots on net is ridiculous and the Canucks get the flack they deserve for it. You also need to understand that a 4 minute penalty to McDavid would have been a massive boon for the Canucks, and in a game that went to OT, that non-call made a difference.
      Obviously I get refs put the whistles away for the playoffs, but whacking the Canucks captain and star defenseman in the face and getting him sent off the ice is a definitive penalty, even in the playoffs.
      Not like they couldve missed it, happened about 5 feet from the puck.
