did this TINY part fix ALL my problems? + 4l80e wiring & tune

  • It's a tiny part with huge results! When putting the COPO truck back together after the 4L80e swap I ran into some issues while reconnecting the exhaust which required me to get the welder out. It was a pretty easy problem to fix, and I tried a new part which may have cured a problem I've been battling for a long time with the exhaust. In addition to welding another version of my exhaust, we also took care of the last few changes needed to finish up the 4l60 to 4l80e swap like wiring, and a segment swap in the tune.

@@dadeftones7 naw fam, the cats aren’t hurting a thing. Plenty of street cars out there making way more power with cats installed. Being on E85 is good. Maybe run E90. Spray M1 pre blower snout; it’s an oxygenated fuel, it has an evaporative cooling effect on the internal parts of the blower and the intake air charge, plus it helps seal the rotors to the case. Lastly, he could re do the ATW system for the blower. Capacity and flow rate is key. I would use a 5-8 gallon fuel cell as a water tank. Use -10 to -14 lines, and the highest flowing pump he can find. Insulate the tank and supply line, fill that tank with as much ice as possible, then top it off with water. Between these mods; your IATs will be well below ambient at the start of a run, and will continue to drop through the run. This allows for more fuel to be burned, more power made. If you start to run out of fuel system, I spray more M1 to supplement the fuel system.

You talk about a low frequency drone even at idle. I had a very bad issue with that with my LQ9. Turns out it was due to having my muffler too close to the end of the exhaust. Someone called it "muffler echo" and I ended up finding a patent that referenced the issue. Patent # US4501341A if you care to read through it. Here is the section that breaks down the issue. I found that less muffler actually made for a more tolerable exhaust.
"A problem faces the designer of a muffler for a motor vehicle, where the muffler had to, of necessity, be located behind the rear pair of wheels (or behind the rear axle) with a consequentially short tailpipe. In order to silence high frequencies other designers invariably specified a large muffler volume, with a large acoustic compliance, and with internal devices such as a perforated main flow conduit which have a low acoustical inertance at low frequencies and a high inertance at high frequency. Such an arrangement is satisfactory at high frequencies (over approximately 1000 Hz), however, the compliance of the muffler volume is in resonance with the inertance of the gas in the short tailpipe at a particular low frequency, usually in the range 30 to 100 Hz with typical dimensions in practical use. There is thus a frequency range, centred about this resonance for which the insertion loss becomes very poor and the radiated exhaust noise becomes high.
An obvious solution to the problem is to increase the tailpipe length considerably to increase the tailpipe inertance and thereby place the problem resonance well below the operating range of frequencies."

that is a valid concern, but the input speed sensor I added to my other truck is not a twisted pair and it seems to be working just fine, so at least for the moment I'd say it will be OK. but time will tell once we go on the test drive.
