I attempted to get into a secret room in Halo 3 over 14,000 times

- The Rec Room, as it's commonly known as, is a secret gymnasium on the mission Crow's Nest in Halo 3. It was fully designed, put in the game, and then never used. Bungie sealed it off, thinking no one would ever access it.
Mission: Crow's Nest
Difficulty: Easy
Skulls: None
Instructions:
Grab a Gravity Hammer off of the Brute Chieftain just outside of the control room after progressing through the mission. Starting at rally point bravo works as well. There should be multiple Deployable Covers in the same room. But if you don't get one, there will be extras in the barracks.
Go to the first green door on the right after entering the barracks where the brutes are holding the marines hostage. Line up roughly 3-4 feet away from the door, standing directly in front of it. Jump, and then the instant you start falling, throw the Deployable cover and inch slightly forward before you hit the ground.
Make sure that you're crouching, halt your step for an instant, and then move slowly forward while continuing to crouch. If you do this right, you'll skid across the floor and live. It will be challenging at first, but after a while, Deployable Cover launching (DC launching) will come easy to you.

the fact you spent not only 16 hours and BOUGHT A NEW CONTROLLER for this trick is actually insane, mega props
Fun fact: the first controller I didn’t show can never be used again because of this trick. I used to use it for my Xbox and then when I tried to connect it to my PC, found out the connect button no longer works.
…and the wire port is broken.
So I can’t even use it for my Xbox again, even though it works perfectly fine otherwise 😂
@@TheShiltShow What a run of bad luck xD
WTF? i’ve played this game since the 2nd grade ( i’m 23 now ). i can’t tell you how many hours i have on this game, i never knew this area existed holy shit.
I'm about to be 28 fam and just experienced the exact same shit while watching this...If I knew about this when halo 3 dropped it would have eaten days of my childhood lmao
26 here. Mind blown really.
What coincidence 23 as well although I'm not good at replicating glitches
Game came out right after i graduated high school im 34 now lol
Yeah bro I grew up playing halo I’m 22 now and I’m flabbergasted too
I've been playing this game since 2008 and despite me and my sisters basically scouring the Halo games when we play, we NEVER SAW THIS ROOM ONCE. I have something to tell them when I go visit my parents!
Massive props for sticking it out, even going as far as to buy another controller!
Thank you! Sounds like you had a sick childhood if your siblings also liked playing Halo with you!!
@@TheShiltShow
Definitely. Two younger sisters. A lot of our multiplayer time was just messing around, driving about and blowing things up, as they were terrible at the games for many years. Co-op was a blast though. Occasionally they would try it together without me and complain at each other.
When Forge came about in Halo 3, EVERYTHING changed. It was so much fun. Good times.
16 hours for one trick, I would have stopped at the first hour lol, impressive
And you would have been right to do so.
I was confident I'd seen all the hidden stuff in halo.. then ShiltShow uploads!
They should unlock the gym for Grifball!
I admire your dedication and you deserve more recognition.
Hell yeah this guys awesome
Im so thankful that we have content creators like you who still show curiosity, dedication, and appreciation to halo games and bring new discoveries decades later
New discovery! But the music made this video 10x better😂
You've coined the phrase "Let's give it a shot!" Literally my favorite thing watching your videos! Can't wait to see what's next!
People that love let's give it a shot, love life. And vice versa.
Never knew this area was a thing lol
The Bungie Halo’s are the games that keep on giving. Even nearly 20 years later
Pretty impressive and cool background music
Never seen this before. Awesome keep on giving me new glitches pleaseee
Never even saw this room through the window there, absolutely wild. This channel is sick
I've been playing Halo my whole life, and it's so cool to see that there's still so much in these games I had no clue about
I've seen modders making this room accessible, which is a really cool concept
I remember Termacious Trickocity did this years ago (5? Safe estimate lolol) but I don't think they explored the details in the video iirc, so this was really cool!
Maybe it was just a test sandbox for the AI or something and they ran out of time so they closed it off.
Cool stuff!
I have a modding/game dev background and the only reason I could think that they may use this room is to test things like physics and collision, perhaps test out some enemies. If you notice the area you can jump on is just high enough for the chief to jump up so this appears to be some kind of testing area that was left in the game. Unless it is simply a cut story area or minor building.
Just found this channel and looking at previous videos looks like i’m gonna be binging for awhile, amazing work
This is insane, as an old halo fan this was amazing to see, glad you went through all the trouble, huge props!
This was nice to watch, you should do more videos like this!
2:25 dude same! I grew up on controller but once I started playing MnK I could never go back
as a halo 3 veteran i didnt know this existed, and as a now game dev, i feel like this room was probably going to be accessible but wasnt since it probably made people confused where to go or get lost somehow
amazing video, still decades on we still find new stuff on these OG games, you need more subs and views for your vids they are great vids and the effort you put in is ridiculous
my mans the goat at finding h3 glitches this is awesome
Your channel is Gold
i wonder if this room was meant for like a brute ambush, but was cut at the last minute.
We should get reddit to try and reach out the a developer/ex bungie employee, I'm sure someone could shed some light on what this could have been for!
I just got this recommended and I have no idea who you are but I always knew you could make it. I'm proud of you.
I love these vids man
I've been playing this game since the day it was released, September 25th 2007, and I never even knew this room existed 😂
never seen this and used to do these kinds of glitches with my friends, thanks for sharing!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that red UNSC logo anywhere else in the game too
Dude I had no idea this existed and I've been playing halo since I was like 9😭 (love your energy byw)
Thanks, Daka!
been watching your full videos. Got a few ODST ones I'd love to see you try.... Mind trying them since ODST and 3 have similar physics...
Nothing with Prepare to drop.
Mombasa Street By Kizingo and Oni Alpha Site.... Can you launch to Oni Building.
Tayari Plaza, can you get back to where the rookie started?
Uplift Reserve, can you climb up to the elevator... or the fall of it?
Kizingo Boulevard, can you break the system and get the scorpion, wraith and banshees in to the final area?
Oni Alpha Site, the elevator portion can you ride to the bottom... and can you launch yourself back to Kizingo Area?
NMPD HQ, can you get down to Mombasa Streets?
Kikowani, can you make it to the end without entering a banshee even once?
Data Hive, can you get into the final audio log area without doing the other ones?
Coastal Highway, Can you get to the epilouge area without a vehicle and still have virgil alive for the truck on Legendary? Maybe ride the trash compactor?
this content deserves more views
Halo Reach's Pillar of Autumn mission during the later half has so many different blocked off areas that are huge. It must be unused unfinished areas they wanted you go into, maybe check that out.
You’re spot on, the video I posted 3 days ago actually explores this hahaha
great video man!
I can imagine an encounter where you walk into the room and jet pack brutes come down like at the landing pad.
Well fuckin done man! Good job pressing on even with this thing wearing on ya.
Side note: sections and rooms like this often get abandoned mid development when they were part of the mission to begin with. The biggest example in H3 is the map Guardian which was from a part of the campaign in which you would ride a high speed train fighting covenant, flood, and the first known "guardian" 🤘
Thanks, Toed! I knew about the Guardian, but I had no idea it was supposed to be part of a high speed train ride. Sounds like ending of Gears of War 😂
@@TheShiltShow It sounds a lot like the Gears ending 😅 just with space zombies and giant sentinels 😂
Thank you for doing this
Just when I thought I had seen it all
Still new stuff in halo makes me happy
Wow! I never even knew that room existed!
Dude I had no idea that room was there🤯
My brother in christ you pulled out a 10 year old xbox controller of course its going to have stick drift
wow that’s amazing! I’ve literally never seen this room before until now, I wonder if there are any other hidden/unused rooms throughout halo 3
There are, and you will see them soon enough
there's a setting in MCC that controls stick drift percentage
This looks like it could’ve been a sweet map
Theres a mod out on the Steam workshop now that opens the door into the gym area.😂
How long have people know about the rec room, because I can't believe I hadn't up until now!
i recall there's a secret room on The Ark, I was only ever able to get into it via theatre mode by clipping my camera through a rock near the beginning and it would port my camera into an empty covenant ship room. Checking the files in the beginning bsp you can even see the room floating.
I really doubt you could ever get into it as a spartan though.
Save the marines in Halo 3: Floodgate :-)
They have plenty of spaces where you can't go but can see in some way to give you the sense that you're in a larger world than you really are (selling that immersion illusion). Bungie still do this today.
Also you say no skulls in your description but you have infinite ammo.
Fun fact, I still own a wired 360 controller, and it is actually the best one to use for this trick
The Gulikit KK3 is a good controller I use for pc that's Xbox shaped and has hall effect sticks.
Wow and i thought i did almost every out of map glitch in Halo 1 to 3 but i was wrong
He is truly the sisyphus of halo 💯🗿
probably meant for a cutscene
whats the hardest halo challenge you have ever done
It's funny I started playing on keyboard first before ever owning a console and ended up loving controllers way more.
Absolute beast
Remember when a single xbox 360 controller would work perfectly without issues for over 18 years?
I do, I use it every day XD
What i expected: you to glitch into the room
What we got: "controllers are basically waterboarding"
All jokes aside, i think crows nest seems alot like the tutorial levels for the last 2 games. Its possible at some point in development that was went to be the tutorial level and the gym was to test your targeting like the previous two games.
Maybe, but Halo 3 has some many secrets rooms in campaign and multiplayer, for example in sierra 117 exist a secret cave out of map, in the map ghost town exist a section locked that you can actually bug in to get in and it’s completely solid
Its not really stickdrift it tends to happen with my controller on my pc but it only happens when I havent used it in awhile. Usually restarting the game or turning off bluetooth/unplugging controller fixes it quickly. Trust me Ive fiddled with my controllers for so long.
Insane.
Props
"DOor" 👁️👄👁️
I have been in that room without the trick one of the doors was open with Enemies inside. Defo 100% that room with Enemies.
4:16 me with a xbox slim controller from 2010 with no stick drift and can take hours of heavy gaming......
wtf is wrong with the xbone controllers? my 360 controller still never has stick drift.
Legend
2:31 we had the exact same strategy. Lol
I've had the same 4 controllers for every xbox (My og halo edition xbox, my launch xbox 360, my xbone and the slightly updated series x controller) and they all work perfectly zero stick drift and no problems. People don't take care of their stuff then blame it on everything else.
Same here. I'll wear the rubber off the sticks before getting any drift or sticky buttons. Have the ODST controller and had to retire it when the graphic started wearing off
i have a controller that still works well but then i stopped taking care of them and its the last survivor of the old ones [well other then a A thats pushed in]
oh and my 360 controller that has 0 issues pink and white its also see through goes to show how taking care of something really makes a difference as all my new ones is dead
Console is superior *With Proof!*
The proof:
its more comfortable on the hands and.........................
MORE!!
“You go straight if you use the gravity hammer” *goes to the right* idk man seems pretty gay to me
i plan to learn mnk but i never want to drop my controller im a huge controller nerd
Get a Wooting 60he keyboard. It has sensitivity scaling like controller for each key.
People didn't know about this room?
What is the song name? its tight af
B.F.G. Karl Casey😈
Set it to 30 FPS.
got all 3 today boy. Like, comment and a sub.
Let’s goooooooo
Niice
Grifball? Lol
Can you get there with the acrophobia skull or is this the only way to get in there?
You can’t do it with acrophobia because you have to be crouched when entering the gym so that you hit the floor. I tried it and couldn’t get in a single time.
i feel like you drop your controllers because i’ve never really suffered from stick drift once since 360 days
My Xbox is from 2013 so we’re talking lost ancient technology here when it comes to controller quality. But I’ve also played a lot of Halo and had a ton of LAN parties at my house, mixed with maybe a few anger spikes into the ground
@@TheShiltShow i didn’t mean for my comment to come off so douchy lol i bought a custom controller with rapid fire (i was a kid who dreamed of having one but had no money lol) so i do baby my controller so i don’t brake it lol but i do love mouse and keyboard for games like battlefield 4 and even fallout new vegas!
I made a video with mods where I went in there years ago but nobody watched it
I refuse to use kb because it's objectively worse, a keyboard is a digital switch, an analog stick is superior
Keyboard is fun but also objectively worse for performance
Proves by getting into Gym that the Controller beats the PC :)
Is there a way you could kill a co-op player and have them respawn just behind the door?
Good idea in theory, but when you spawn someone into Halo 3, they can only spawn outside map barriers by spawning ABOVE you. If there was a room below this with the right size ceiling, that would likely be possible
how u get this checkpoint where u deploy cover?
I have a laptop that I use another player to get checkpoints with
@@TheShiltShow in singleplayer is possible delay a checkpoint?
@@TheKingOppaiDragon hmmm probably not unfortunately unless you’re willing to walk from the checkpoint to the door each time
Why not just clip through? Or use theater mode to get a better view
Clipping requires mods, I don’t have any interest in modding. Also theater mode for campaign on MCC is pretty glitchy. I couldn’t get more than 4 minutes into the session I did this in without getting an error and it ending.
whaaaaa
W
.....why not just use the Acrophobia skull my man 😂 smh
…because you can’t do this with it activated
But you died 😢
You use centered crosshairs... heretic
I think it’s because I play on 120 FOV (90 is default), so it looks like it’s different
@@TheShiltShow ha, typical PC player with the FOV... but the crosshairs don't move with the FOV, so they are set to centered
You know how your controllers had “stick drift”? How do you fix? My only pc controller has stick drift bad
