Old gold folk/pagan rhythms are soo good. Italy gived 12 points to Ukraine also cause their folk/pagan songs are rhythmically very similar to Ukrainian ones. Great stuff!

I'm impressed. I'm from Canary Islands and our traditional dances and outfits are so similar! And I live in the other side of the world. This made me remember when I danced to folk music in my childhood.

So there's the folk, wich it's commom in this region of europe, than there is the acoustic version by go-a (concert in the dark) and of course the producede version with a lot off base in the eurovision version. It shows the development of music during time, with respect to the roots. For myself i prevere the acoustic version of Shum for i can hear a certain kind of emotion, bothin sang as in instrumernts. I don't like when people are putting it this way: " *turning* traditional music into today's styles" as if traditional music is something bad on its own and necessarily needs to be "turned" into something other in order to become listenable. Just no. Go_A don't "turn" anything into anything. The right word would be "combine" or "mix". They combine traditional, rock, reggae, electronica, dubstep, drum&base, rave and rap styles in their songs. All these genres are equally good on their own too, it's just when combined, it results into a bombastic COMBO! 🔥💥 And I know no other band in the world who combines ALL these genres at once. So I believe Go_A are unique. There are folk-metal, folk-rock, folk-rap bands, but folk-metal-reggae-dubstep-etc-etc bands at once?? Maybe I'm wrong tho. I didn't check the Estonian band yet.

It's performed by ordinary people, by folk groups, at kindergartens, by pensioners' choirs etc. They did what Leontovich did with "Shchedryk" when he took an ordinary folk song, made his version out of it and it later became well known internationally as "Carol of the Bells". Not many people know it's originally a Ukrainian folk song, also of pagan character and it is also about spring. In this video with a traditional song you can see Kateryna on the left, she was a member of this folklore group. First she performed it in its classical form and now we have two more versions by Go_A to add up to the existing ones.

Then I looked up a few years ago (when I had to sing) and discovered that the original was from Ukraine. "Adeste Fideles" is also not english. It's 17th century portuguese written in latin. Not a traditional folk song, though. So it could have been written by any western country since its melody and harmony was very much in vogue back then.

They can't be accused of plagiarism for two reasons. First of all legally speaking folk songs don't have copyright, since they're part of traditional heritage they are considered public domain. The second reason is that Go_A never tried to claim this version of the song was their own original work, they always presented it as a re-arrangement of the traditional folk song. I mean Kateryna Pavlenko (the singer from Go_A) is in the "traditional" video too, she's the girl on the left.

Dude relax. This is a great track especially the second version. And lets not pretend that those songs didn't get modernized and reimagined from generation to generation. This is exactly how languages and music work. Every generation puts a new twist. Im pretty sure that the previous Ukrainian generation would say that they dislike the folk version you love. Also her vocals are pitch perfect live, she was one of the women on the old video too.
