  • Hey guys, here's my 10 pound batch of Hot Process Soap. Pay attention so you learn from my mistakes lol. I learned a few things putting the video together...
    1) making a big batch like this it's not wise to do a water discount. I would prefer more time to work on this soap without it being thick.
    2) if you notice in the video after the first two volcanoes the batch separated, that's why I used the stick blender which not only made the batch come together it heated up the batch to where there were a ton of volcanoes.
    2) as I stated in the video DO NOT use more than 144ozs oils in the 12 qt stock pot or your arm will fall off trying to make sure the soap doesn't spill over.
    3) there is a video showing how I made the molds for a 9-10 pound batch.
    144ozs is 9 pounds | 160ozs is 10 pound batch.
    The Turmeric Facial Bar video was 144ozs of oils
    4) sorry if I repeated myself on some things it's the teacher and the ADHD in me lol.
    Enjoy the video. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to subscribe!

    Ah bless lol. I had a right good laugh at your video because that was me Yesterday with a 8lb batch!
    I used a steel big spoon to help the volcanoes go down and also my large spatula to incorporate cold air to cool it. I also have a very large bucket which I bought from the car shop used to clean your car so my volcanoes did not quite reach the top but boy the smell of ammonia nearly knocked me out even though it was only a honey and oatmeal soap...no milk.

  • @r.thomassen6285
    @r.thomassen6285 Před 7 lety

    Thank you! Very interesting video. Now I know what I should not do. I am a beginner, and want to try countertop hot process. But I must make sure to not overfill my pots. If I didn't see this video, I guess I would do exactly the same as you and have huge problems. But now I have learned.
    But I came up with an idea. I have not tried that yet. But it should work, hopefully. I will do as follows:
    Heat up the oils on the stove and at the same time heat up the stand mixer bowl in the oven. Dump the oils in the bowl, and lye, and stick blend to thick trace. Then, head over to the stand mixer and attach the bowl and the whisk attachment or maybe paddle attachment. And then just turn on the mixer as soon as the volcanoes have eruptions. The stand mixer can whip faster and better than I can, and it will be easier. And I guess the lowest speed for folding in ingredients maybe can be used. I mean, just have it on the lowest setting thru the whole process.
    I have to use the stand mixer bowl anyway, that's the only thing I have that is big enough and have good handles. I have glass bowls, but they are not heat proof so they can crack, I am afraid. So that's how I thought, why just don't use the attachments to whisk it up as well? But if it is a good or bad idea, I don't know yet.
    I will just as you only use all natural ingredients, that is the absolute best! And I have written a recipe I will try. I'm not totally sure about the recipe, but we have a limited supply of ingredients here in the arctic northern parts of Norway. So I have to use what I have available or easily can get in a hurry. So it will be an olive oil soap with some coconut oil for bubbles, and superfatted also with hard coconut oil. I hope that can make the soap more insoluble in water. But I have no idea if it will or not. Do you know if hard oils as superfat helps to prevent mushy soap? But I will also add salt and try to make sodium lactate from scratch by fermenting plain sugar. That should help with hardness too. I have no place to find stearic acid or any wax locally other than grate up a candle, and I don't want to do that since it maybe isn't skin safe. I can order online, of course, but I have not come so far yet.
    Anyway, I was thinking about making an oatmeal and milk soap with rhubarb, orange zest and a touch of essential oil, maybe cypress, or maybe rosewood, or both. So nothing special. But we have rhubarb in abundance here. And a very acidic sort of rhubarb. And that's why I want to make hot process in the first place, to be able to add acidity. Because this soap I will make, is for myself and a body-and-hair shower soap. And I have read that the high PH in natural soap is not good for your hair. Hair needs more acidic soap. And I do think they are right. I have washed my hair many times with a cold process castille soap i made. And my hair, which is the worst and most difficult notorius nordic hair ever, became fluffy and full of volume. So far so nice, but for my hair to have volume and be almost thick, something has to be seriously wrong. So I believe that high PH can damage your hair in the long run. It must be slightly acidic. And that is not possible in cold process, it will destroy the lye. But perfectly possible in hot process. So HP it will be. And rhubarb is the most acidic ever. And this old style rhubarb in northern Norway is about twice or so as acidic as red rhubarb. Plus that rhubarb has a wonderful fresh, natural scent that's not overpowering in any way.
    As normal I write toooo loooong comments with a bunch of crap. Well, well. But thank you for the video and for giving people ideas about great all natural soaps. Spinach, I actually have that, but have never ever thought about using it in soap, until now. The colour you get from spinach is just perfect! :-)

    • @donatasco
      @donatasco  Před 7 lety +2

      icecreamlady driver it's called counter top hot process high temperature soap making. The lye and oils are really hot. My oils are about 200 degrees and the lye water is about 190-195 degrees. The high temperature causes the soap to continue to cook without it being on the stove or in a crock pot. If you are new to soaping I suggest you really learn the low temperature really well before trying this. This process is extremely fast so if you don't know what to do fast enough the soap will literally be all over the floor.

    Just a hint: Using a hand fan would help to bring the soap down when you are stirring.

      you know the fan like the one you have in church. Thats the best. Or I guess you could set a small electric fan to blow into the pot. Let me know if either works.

    Girl! You need to practice what you are preachin'! I see those toes!
    I normally turn off the music videos! Or turn off the music! Please ditch the music! You don't need it!
    Next time sit your pot in the sink! With the drain in! Less dangerous!

      Hippy Nerd yup I said that in one of my videos I don't cover my arms or feet as I should... no hiding that. I love music so I'm glad you turned off the volume. All my videos will have music... heads up.
