      As long as I've been soaping, 3+ years(this time round), I've been *trying* cp, failing tremendously, then going back and rescuing the ingredients by rebatching with hot processing! I've not been properly identifying the stages! I'd been taking the stage of "light trace" as "medium"! But it took *you* demonstrating🤪🤫, for me to finally clue in! Thankyou!🥳💞 and yet I've watched *SO MANY VIDEOS!!!!*, I still cant believe I've been making such an amateur mistake for so MANY times, over so many batches!!!🤪🥳🤔

  • @sarahdavis1198
    @sarahdavis1198 Před 3 lety +18

    I can tell you are more of a cold process soaper!! You know you don't need to cool the lye solution with hot process soap? you only do that with cold process. I just dissolve lye and chuck it in the melted oils, absolutely not necessary. You also don't need to go in at an angle with the stick blender as you are cooking soap that is another CP tip, but not for HP as you are stirring it whilst it cooks a few times. You also don't need to cool it down before adding yoghurt and EO that is a bit of a myth in the HP soapmaking world. Great video btw and the soap looks fab! (it also 'should' be cured the same length of time you would CP soap which is 4-6 weeks and of course it will improve with age) I did CP for about 2 years but much prefer HP and have been doing that for about 5 years, so much easier and I you don't have to worry about soda ash or soap batter seizing etc.

      Great explanation ! Please answer my questions 1) Is there any difference in quality of HP Soap and CP soap ? (As HP soap is forced for a quicker saponification where CP soap takes it longer ) Do they give equal benefits for our skin ?

      3) what is the curing period for 100 % Olive oil HP soap ?

    • @sarahdavis1198
      @sarahdavis1198 Před 3 lety +5

      @@dr.bijaykumarparida7321 no quality difference it is more of a personal preference. HP soap still needs the same amount of cure time as CP. Yes you can make 100% olive oil soap HP, in fact I did it about 8 weeks ago at very high temps with a very steep water discount and I am testing it monthly to see if it improves as other soapmakers more experienced than me say that it doesn't need the long 6-12 month cure time of normal Castile. It does have a different feel to it and can be a bit 'slimy' again that is open to debate. I much prefer animal fats in my soap now as they are resemble our skin oils better than nut or vegetable oils and are very creamy.

    • @Lovelygreens

      Crockpot no, but anything plastic yes. Lye isn't the issue though -- it's essential oils. There's no lye left on any plastic, metal, or glass after use but essential oils have a tendency to seep into porous materials.

    Hey, you did it! 🤗 Waited for your hot process video since your first cold process one:-) A question: Are there recipes for smaller quantities? It seems to me, you either have to sell it, or you have to live in a castle...

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  Před 3 lety

      You can use any cold-process soap recipe to make hot-process soap, including smaller 1-lb batches. The risk there is that if the oils/lye-solution are too shallow in the slow cooker, it could splatter up caustic soap batter. Not good. I'd recommend making a full loaf of soap at a time with this method and you can use less expensive oils if you wish. That means you can use my 100% olive oil soap recipe (scale it up to an 800g batch) and use oil from the supermarket (if it's well within the best-by date). lovelygreens.com/simple-castile-soap-recipe-make-olive-oil-soap/

    Do you need to keep all of your soap making equipment separate (i.e. slow cooker, immersion blender, spatula, etc), or is it safe to use the same equipment - after you wash it, of course - for making food that you eat?

      You can but would need to run the recipe through the soap calculator again to get a new lye amount. It will change slightly if you change any of the oils or their quantities.

      Natural soap contains natural vegetable glycerin (also called glycerol) as a by-product. It's a gentle substance that makes handmade soap moisturizing.

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  Před 2 lety

      The shelf life of the soap is the closest best-by date of the ingredients you used. If one expires next month, so does your soap.

    Hi Tanya thank you for sharing this video. I have a question if you could please help me with it ,I tried yesterday to do hot process following your procedure but I have used just olive oil however it still vasilliny and from inside just for shard crust from top? Do you thing I need to wait long for it to harden since I used just olive oil?

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  Před rokem

      Hot process soap can get crusty on the top because of heat and moisture loss. Keeping a tight lid on, and stirring, helps to stop that from happening. It's not the end of the world though, and is still good soap.

    • @Lovelygreens

      It's best to get them from a soap-making supply shop. In Britain, I recommend the soap kitchen, and I know that many people use Brambleberry in the USA. There are many others though.

    Do you ever infuse your own oils? I infused oil with frankincense but the fragrance didn’t come through the finished product using the CP method. I’m wondering if using the HP method and adding the fragrance at the end like you did might help

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  Před 2 lety

      Infused oils will never give you the kind of scent you're after in soap. They're used to create color and potentially skin benefit. Essential oils are used for scent and are much different. They're highly concentrated volatile plant oil take far more plant material to make.

    • @Lovelygreens
      @Lovelygreens  Před rokem

      Yes, those ingredients, water, or herbal infusions can do at that point. They may not add creaminess to the soap, but a vegan alternative will make the soap batter more fluid and easier to work with in a similar way to yogurt.

      Hiya, cold-process, and hot-process are just two different ways to make a soap recipe. Yes, you can use the recipe, but make it using the cold-process method 👍 For cold process, use less water, though - 2x the amount of lye by weight. You can omit the yoghurt or stir it with a little water (1 TBSP) and add at trace.

    Hello dear Tanya 😀 I wish everything is well with you 🙏🏼
    First of all, thank you so much for all the sharing work you do with us, on CZcams and on your website 🙏🏼
    I am writing to you just right below Magickal UK, from Magickal Portugal 🥰
    I am a natural and holistic medicine and way of living student, researcher and practitioner since year 2000 🥰💚
    I am a Nature Lover and Tree hugger since ever that's why I embarque on the Druid Path since 2017 🥰🙏🏼💚
    Now I am starting my Path on natural homemade cosmetics to replace all my cosmetics bought on organic shops to my own homemade cosmetics. I've started last February with my first ever homemade tooth past, that is amazing 🥰, then my deodorant, which din't worked as I expected, I have to try another recipe when this one is finished, and then my lip balm, which is perfect 🥰 I have come across your amazing work 2 weeks ago, because I want to replace my hand soap as soon as it finishes by one homemade by me 🥰🙏🏼💚 I intend to purchase your online course as soon as I can 🥰
    At the moment I don't have much spare money to invest on some equipment and therefore I wonder if this hot process soap, and all other hot processes soaps' recipes, can be made using the bain-marie technique? If so, I can avoid purchasing a slow cooker right now... once more thank you so much 🙏🏼
    Loads of Love from my 💚 to your 💚
