The Steinharts are great! I'm surprised that the black is this inexpensive. Once you convert it to dollars and include shipping it's closer to $500, but whatever. I bought the double green premium ceramic and the blue premium ceramic which are both excellent, have a display back, and are about $100 more. The Pepsi and Batman GMTs are great too, and slightly more money.

I could not agree more about Steinhart. I have three now and absolutely love the things - everything you say about the build quality is true. Two are Rolex homages - a 42 mm Ocean One "double green" - a "hulk" homage with the same water resistance as Rolex, but with a sapphire crystal exhibtion caseback that shows off the nicely decorated Sellita movement, and a 42 mm "Classic Ceramic GMT" with the blue/black bezel that is homage to the Rolex GMT master "Batman" , but beats in in water resistance by a full 200 meters. Kudos to Rolex for their trendsetting styling and leadership in watchmaking, but the law of diminishing returns applies in spades to these two - together the two Rolexes would have cost north of $40,000.00 in Canadian dollars (if indeed you could actually buy them), just to get a nicer movement that only my jeweller will ever see, and that coveted brand name on the dial.

Nice review, I got that watch Green Bezzel Black dial, I also got the Debaufre and Grovana versions , my Debaufre is Blue Dial Green Bezzel. The Grovana is black dial Red bezzel, its obvious that they are "badge engineered" variants of the same product , BUT with very suckle differences, and finish quality, the best finished is the GROVANA, man that thing pops like a " grail watch" it surpasses the Stien, but i guess it comes at a " balance" in that it has the Selitta SW2000 as opposed the 2824-2 of the others, the sapphire on it is that good, i think " bloody hell did Swarovski make this". There is a further variant out there in the form of the Robert Possiden, which i want to complete the set. Like you I also have a Seamaster, i guess i would not really benefit from owning a Rolex Sub, ( having worked my entire ass off for so long I could afford one), i want a Breitling Super Ocean, Steel fish , Colt now. I m English but you are a guy to sink a bottle of Jack with on these Looooong winter nights, Good health man !

Well, given it does appear competent and is subtle in it's overall finish and is well done, and regardless, of it's Rolex cover, I find it very appealing. I have no itch for a Rolex. I'm not saying they don't build and create fine watches. They just don't "ring my 🔔. I would love this watch even more were it hard anodized Gray / Black, but I could live easily with it as is. Though as we said, date date is really what I want in this caliber of watch. I'm also surprised some watch makers have not simplified the Abbreviations for Day of the week in their complications for days of the week. I know it would go against convention, but might make the comp easier in movement design.

Steinhart does make some good looking watches. They're so close to the Rolex that it does give one a slightly queasy feeling, but if you want a coke-face GMT or kermit sub, well, the alternatives cost several orders of magnitude more--and it's still a very competent watch. The only real concern with these is similar to a lot of other microbrands: when it comes time for maintenance, the cost of refurbishment is generally on par with the cost of a new watch. Something to keep in mind.

  • @1SaG
    @1SaG Před rokem

I currently own the 39mm OVM and 39mm Ceramic Green. I have owned the 39mm Marine Blue (Gnomon exclusive, non LE), 39 GMT Premium (OG GMT Master/Pussy Galore homage), 42mm OVM, 42mm Ceramic Green and the Panda Paul Newman homage. For a guy like me with a puny 17cm (6.7in IIRC) wrist, the 39mms are the only way to go. I tried the 42s at first but quickly regretted that decision when I realized how much better the 39mm case looked on me.
Plus: From a visual/design standpoint, the vintage ones work a lot better in the smaller size IMO.
Other than that: The value these watches offer is quite incredible. I do own a Christopher Ward C63 (39mm) and while that thing offers higher quality overall, nicer details and a more elaborate finish, it was/is also more than double the price of an Ocean One. For the money, Steinharts are almost a steal IMO - if you can live with the lack of originality in the design, those rather flat lugs and the fact that they put on date-loupes that are way too "weak".
And while I do prefer their vintage offerings, I gotta say that Ceramic Green is one of my favorite watches that I currently own - easily a candidate for a one-piece watch collection. I guess one reason for this is that it's actually not simply trying to ape a Submariner but does its own thing in some ways. The case shape is nothing like a Sub's for example and when I put it next to a buddy's mid 90s Sub, it was quite apparent that the Steinhart isn't simply a copy with a different brand-name slapped on.
Cons: Cyclops needs higher magnification, lugs/case could be a bit more contoured, dial color/finish looks a bit too simple and not black enough (wish it was lacquered, deep black like on the Sub or on my Christopher Ward) and the applied indices aren't *really* applied - they look more like steel donuts put on top of printed-on lume plots.
Pros: Price, availability, great bracelet, good clasp (except for the only mediocre outer bit), high build quality, very good finish, excellent customer service, great regulation out of the box.

I have 4 watches from Steinhart, these are one of the reasons why I will never buy a watch from "R", like never. So f.... great quality, They should at least cost 5 times more of the price today. The reason the case does not look like the "Oyster" case is due to the "fact" that the vendor has delivered cases to "R" in the past, so they will get in big trouble if they supplied Steinhart with a 1:1 case. There is only one minus with watches from Steinhart and that's the clasp, they should change this to what other manufactures have with the micro adjustment clasp.

My Steinharts all have ETA movements, the new ones have Sellita since ETA has stopped supplying movements outside the Swatch Group brands like Omega and Tissot, Rado etc. Sellita used to produce ETA movements under license for Swatch Group products, so the Sellita SW200 is identical to the ETA 2824-2. Mine have been tuned by my watch guy to keep +/- 3 seconds a day which is pretty incredible for these movements.

I owned the exact same watch, it's really nice. Ended up selling it to fund a Seiko 62 MAS reissue which is a better watch in every way for a bit more money but I really enjoyed the steinhardt while I had it.

@@deanwaller8283 probably on paper. It's a roll of the dice which movement you will actually receive as steinhardt often drop in different movements from different manufacturers over the production run of a given model based on availability and price fluctuations in the supplier market. Personally my ETA movement watches have needed servicing every 5 years or so on average. I have a few mid to higher end seikos and they are all unserviced after a decade or more. All my watches are exposed to heavy use (daily manual labor, diving, sailing, hunting and fishing in remote settings ect). My personal experience is clearly that a mid level swiss movement is considerably more prone to deregulation under heavy use over time than the equivalent Seiko.

I purchased my GMT-OCEAN 1 BLACK Aluminium 2017 and I really like the watch. I've been dealing with Rolex IWC and Omega Oris And many more watches over the twenty five years. I really like this watch. It is a great watch for the price. Is the only problem I have on the bezel If you scratches try to replace it bezel. I wouldn't really call it a homage watch.I know people do but there's other watches out there that I have that look just like rolex. Seiko Citizen, and otherwise that looks similar. So my thing is it's an awesome watch.Stan Hart makes a great watch and like I said, I've had it since 2017 and I haven't had any problems with it.Great video that I'm going to purchase another one and I'll tell anybody if you don't like to watch it on by but it's awesome Watch you won't be disappointed.

Another nice review, thanks 👍🙂. So hey, have an OVM mk3, basically same thing but Rolex 5517 homage dial and no date and alum bezel. Best compliment I can give it is unlike a Submariner I can do yardwork or housework without worrying about it. I don't care if it's called a fake Rolex, homage, junk, whatever. When I'm using a chainsaw trying to keep from cutting a foot off, it's simply my watch: a tool to tell me it's getting late and the wife is going to start worrying 🙂👍

That back play is a fault. My 42mm did that and I sent it back, it returned with no back play. I bought a 39mm and sold it so knew when I received the 42mm it was faulty.

I'll tell you this, I owned 2 steinhart gmt 39 ceramics. They were absolutely beautiful. I decided to sell them and move on to a more expensive dive watch. Purchased the way more expensive dive watch (will remain nameless), returned it the same day and got my money back. The next day ordered 2 steinhart watches again. You cannot beat the price for what you get in a steinhart. I use my watches as a daily tool and they get beat to crap. I don't care what anybody says steinhart are excellent watches for the price you pay.

Bought an Ocean One. Took it to my local watchshop to have some links removed. The owner told me: That's the easiest link removement I've ever done. No pins to be hammered out. just a few screws and you're done.

that is like an invicta with non reflecting saphire glass andcmore luminova.
I actually do not see the pointvin spending 500 Euros more on that watch than on an invicta... which.. you can buy 5 of, if it gets too scratched.
It happens here the same as with modern mobile phones. We are expected to pay a lot more for a product which offers minimal subtile differences in comparison with a much affordable one.
