    I purchased the ocean one 39 when it first came out. I then purchased a rolex submariner date, and that was my main watch for a few years. I recently sold the sub, and am back to the steinhart ocean one 39. I can honestly say this steinhart is an amazing watch, fits and feels great, and keeps great time.

    Great review. I agree that the Ocean 39 is a very well made and finished watch. It’s a steal for what you get for your money. Mine sees a lot of wrist time and, to me at least, doesn’t reek of a knockoff. I leave that to the San Martin that I have (and never wear once I got the Steinhart). Nice to hear they stand behind their watches as well.

    • @WristWatching
      @WristWatching  Před rokem +4

      Thanks a lot! It really is a steal, I don’t think many people realize how good these watches are until they actually have one in hand. I definitely connect much more with them compared to my San Martins, they have that little bit of personality that makes them stand out.

    I own two Steinhart's and agree with your analysis. I got them for travel so that I don't have to worry, but like others, I end up wearing them more than my higher-end watch. One slight negative thing that I experienced on both Steinharts is that the threading on the screw-down crown is not perfect, so a little extra care is required, especially when winding the watch. I have not experienced this on my "luxury" timepiece.

    • @WristWatching
      @WristWatching  Před rokem +4

      It’s the exact same here! I’m not sure if Sinn counts as a luxury watch, but it’s my most expensive piece, and I find myself wearing the Steinhart much more than my Sinn. The crown threading on both my Steinharts were smooth. I probably got lucky with my units.

    6:00 Already mentioned it in another video, but: My O39 Ceramic Green also shows that "patina" on the lume-pip. From what I hear, Steinhart will replace these inserts. I haven't contacted them about that yet, but judging from my past experiences with their excellent customer service, I'm pretty sure they'll help me out.
    Seeing how you're thinking about the 39mm OVM: I also own that watch and I think you'd be very happy with it. One thing to note on this one however is that its crystal is single domed, not the flat kind on the more "modern" looking Ocean Ones/39s. It increases the overall height of the watch by 2 or 3 mm, making it look a bit more chunky. It also reduces legibility/clarity of the dial under certain lighting conditions. It's nothing you'd notice in the sunlight or under bright artificial light, but it can be noticeable under, say, an overcast winter sky.

    • @WristWatching
      @WristWatching  Před rokem +2

      Based on my experience, they definitely will! I heard they've even done this for watches that were past their 2-year warranty mark. Superb customer service. Regarding the OVM39, the crystal was the one thing putting me off. I don't mind the extra height, but I noticed the dome causes tons of reflection compared to their flat crystal models. I actually just bought the Ocean One 39 GMT Pepsi last week 🤣

    5:51 The same has happened to mine. I bought mine in 2019 and I noticed the lume on the bezel became slightly yellow after around 2 years. I just bought the Ocean 39 Classic Ceramic Batman a week ago and it also has the lume on the bezel there. I wonder if it will turn yellow after some time as well.

    • @WristWatching
      @WristWatching  Před rokem +2

      Based in my experience with 3 Steinharts, I think the yellowing lume on the bezel is bound to happen. On the upside, Steinhart is usually very accommodating if you reach out to them. They’ve replaced 2 of my inserts for free, I’m sure they’d sort you out too.

      @@WristWatching a lot better. I went straight link because I LOVE straight link look and feel. Gives you more air and looks a bit vintage retro etc.
      The Steinhart band is ok. The clasp sucks and a couple links stick right out of the box.

    Great review. I owned this watch and wore it for 8 months sparingly..i say sparingly because this watch scratches even if you look at it. i felt i had to baby it all the time. That's odd. I have an Ocean GMT OLKO Special Edition Steinhart. LOVE this watch. I've had it and worn it 24/7 for two weeks now - on my working horse ranch - and aside from a little scuffing of the clasp, there are no scratches. And life is tough on a watch here!
      Great review...you got a sub from me. 👍
      Would love to see you review the Ocean GMT OLKO Special Edition Steinhart. It's an homage to the original Rolex Explorer II (1655) from the 70s. I owned that watch way back then...and this Steinhart is a better watch! The Rolex had an acrylic crystal, stamped metal clasp, hollow end links, and a GMT hand that wasn't (it was a fixed 24 hour hand). The sapphire crystal, milled clasp, solid end links, and GMT function make the Steiny a better piece - and yet it looks so much like the 1655 Rolex that, every time I glance at my wrist, it's 1978 all over again!

I have divers from Omega and Longines but when I need a watch able to travel, to dive (I did a lot with the Steinhart) I choose the Ocean 1 for a mind free experience. Hello, good review, I became interested in this Watch but no matter how much I have looked for a "better price" (here in Europe) I did not find a Watch under $500. Buying from Jomashop is no longer worthwhile because after VAT and Customs fees will be more expensive than buying it in Europe, So, the truth is that even for $500 a New Watch? does not exist. In the end I made another purchase more profitably, certainly not a "Swiss Made", a Orient New Triton and I can say that I do not regret the purchase.

    Agree, the bezel is a weeak point and I think it´s only a matter of cutting cost, of course this can be better if Steinhart wanted this to be better (my OO42) is doing the exact same. The same goes for the lock on the strap, that is just cheap crap, and quite frankly, I don't understand why @steinhart don´t make/sell them as e.g. the "WMT" lock with an "S" on it for Steinhart, that could be cool. And yes, the customers will pay for it - also for some micro adjustments on the lock - then you have the perfect "Steinhart" watch. But at the end of the day, it´s sadly a matter of cutting corners and cost to raise the revenu.
