Born in Atlanta and raised in Chicago, West gained recognition as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, producing singles for several artists and developing the "chipmunk soul" sampling style. Intent on pursuing a solo career as a rapper, he released his debut studio album, The College Dropout (2004), to critical and commercial success. He founded the record label GOOD Music later that year. West explored diverse musical elements like orchestras, synthesizers, and autotune on the albums Late Registration (2005), Graduation (2007), and 808s & Heartbreak (2008). His fifth and sixth albums My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010) and Yeezus (2013) were also met with critical and commercial success. West further diversified his musical styles on The Life of Pablo (2016) and Ye (2018) and explored Christian and gospel music on Jesus Is King (2019). His tenth album Donda (2021) was released to continued commercial success but mixed critical reception. West's discography also includes the two full-length collaborative albums Watch the Throne (2011) with Jay-Z and Kids See Ghosts (2018) with Kid Cudi.
One of the world's best-selling music artists, with over 160 million records sold, West has won 24 Grammy Awards and 75 nominations, the joint tenth-most of all time, and the joint-most Grammy awards of any rapper along with Jay-Z. Among his other awards are the Billboard Artist Achievement Award, a joint-record three Brit Awards for Best International Male Solo Artist and the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Six of West's albums were included on Rolling Stone's 2020 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list with the same publication naming him one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. He holds the joint record (with Bob Dylan) for most albums (4) topping the annual Pazz & Jop critic poll. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2005 and 2015. As a fashion designer, he has collaborated with Nike, Louis Vuitton, Gap, and A.P.C. on clothing and footwear and led the Yeezy collaboration with Adidas. He is also the founder and head of the creative content company Donda.

Fantastic content Volks, your skills have gotten these vids incredibly polished, precise, and tasteful 👌🏼
unpopular opinion: ye is actually an incredibly concise project, and it's my favorite of his
Ye is one of my favorites too. if it wasnt for yikes it would be perfect imo. (I only like the hook the verses are not too good tbh, like the flow)

People always give 808s credit for how influential it is but rarely for how well rounded of an album it actually is
Frfr plus there's some nice asf songs on it
Top 5 Kanye for me personally
@@theboi5584 number one for me personally
Yep it's my no 1 of Kanye's
If you didn’t think Kids See Ghosts was worth including solely because it’s a collab tape, then why rank Watch the Throne on there too? Is it because it’s shorter? Or because Kid Cudi isn’t as notable a collaborator as JAY-Z? Either way, I think it merits its own spot on any list, and could be argued as better because of its brevity. And if you’re complaining about the length, Ye is around a similar length and was created at the same time, yet is on this list too. Moral of the story, KSG is underrated and I think deserves a rank (towards the top if you ask me).
Facts. KSG definitely deserves a ranking. Also it's arguably a top 5 album too.
True, KSG is a wonderful album. The power of Kanye and Cudi together is unmeasurable. True music gem.
Kiss See Ghosts is in my top 10 favourite albums of all time. It's so groundbreaking and ahead of its time. I've been listening to the same 7 tracks over and over for years and I never get bored of them. What an experience
fr. my favorite album ever.
It’s very good but it has the same issue as ‘Her Loss’ when discussing 21 Savages discography or any of the ‘Cozy Tapes’ series when discussing A$AP Rocky or Playboi Cartis work. And that’s that there just isn’t enough of them on it and they kinda feel like a side character in another artist’s world
Cmon man, how does Donda 2 even count if Kids See Ghosts doesn’t 😂, I don’t think Kanye even knows he put it out
Up the chels💙

The Life of Pablo is one of the few albums where I know exactly where I was, how life was, and exactly what I was doing when I first listened to it.
literally same, tlop might have unironically been life changing for me, i listened to it sitting on a picnic blanket at night after some shit had just went down and it just hit different
Yeah man I remember everyone freaking out cause of the Kanye loves Kanye track leaking before the album 😂😂
@@n2k970I imagine Saint Pablo really hit you when you we’re looking up in the night sky (even if there wasn’t a church next to you)
I feel that about almost all his albums honestly, cept for the later ones tbh (2020..onward)
Honestly Ye is top 5 Kanye for me, Crazy how underrated that album is, One of the only Kanye projects with legit 0 skips for me. The opening track one of Kanyes best songs, Its peak experimental Ye IMO
Being born in 99/00 I feel we have a very unique perspective on the last decade of music. We witnessed the shift from traditional industry standards to streaming & I feel like Kanye’s career embodies that timeline. Great vid

I was born in 95. I recorded my favorite songs on cassette from the radio on cassettes, burned cds of my favorite albums on the family computer , downloaded shady mp3s, and streamed.
I have seen things you people wouldn’t believe
Yes being born in 96 I did not witness this
Putting TLOP at #1 is a rare take but an absolute correct one
Do you know how crazy it is to transcend the "best rapper alive" to be considered the "best artist alive"?
WHO is the best artist alive?
@@bigtobomo4465Ye (formerly known as Kanye West)
I wish you included kid sees ghosts! It was the first Kanye project I became really obsessed with and I think kid Cudi is such a good contrast to Kanye
Probs wasn't included because it's under the artist name KIDS SEE GHOSTS
Seeing The Life of Pablo in the Top 2 warms my heart because thats my personal favorite album from Kanye. It's his most real and authentic body of work that highlights his newfound Christianity with his connection to the luxurious Los Angeles lifestyle. The rollout is one of the best in recent years and every song is great to amazing.
100% agree
He’s always been a Christian, the College dropout literally had “Jesus walks” on it, but otherwise I do agree with you
@@DBOG While he never stopped believing in God, his lifestyle and beliefs definitely strayed away from God over time as he blew up after TCD and Late Registration. This is most evident in Watch The Throne - an album that was very lacking in religious themes besides the opening track, No Church In The Wild, a song that can be interpreted as kind of a middle finger to traditional Christian beliefs and values.
(Keyword "traditional")
@@Disciple_JK he made an album called “Yeezus” that had a track named “I am a God” no doubt he definitely got somewhat loose with his religion. I’m just making a point that he has always been a Christian.

I feel like more and more people lately are coming around on TLOP being their favorite Kanye album, which is really cool to see.
this list isn’t bad but Life of pablo being 1 is actually WILD
Nah I think LOP is number 1 cuz its the most Kayne Album
Those animated collages for each record are so beautiful! 😍
Love this art style and information provided. Respectable ranking.
I understand that these are your personal favorite albums of Kanye and thats fine. Most people would put MBDTF or TCD as their top picks. They have the most accolades. TLOP felt shattered and incohesive and Yeezus felt incomplete but different. My personal favorite is LR. It had the best production with orchestras, won rap album of the year and was nominated for album of the year
this here.....tlop-yeezus all goin forward were edgy n bipolar facing enough for new fans who always heard bout the greatness of Kanye to feel like they were witnessing a tru genius big thing happening but it was not truly his best works or close, just a great artist finally unravvelling and the music starting to suffer as well. the last decade seeing him half float on the accolades of those 1st 5 albums w half baked new ideas that progressivly had less time energy n care put in to them and relyed more on other artist sounds that built upon his old songs genius is also so sad and hurts as a fan for the most innovative genre defining wheel destroying and truly pure genius artist weve ever seen this era and maybe ever smh..

Kanye is the best artist in the history. Not because he’s modern but because his life is poetic, his art reflects that. Kanye puts is life and soul on display like no one else, good or bad, right or wrong unapologetically. Kanye is raw humanity, struggling with finding purpose and always starving and striving for accession yet plagued with our flaws and damnations.
He is a musical genius
I do not think that this a quality that makes Kanye unique as an artist. Infact its a quality that kayne shares with alot of artists.
People really underate the projects Kanye did with Common (Finding Forever and Be.) I know it doesn’t make sense to rank them, but Kanye was heavily involved in them and I think it has some of his best work production and feature wise.

The funny thing about Kanye rankings is you can watch 12 different videos and all of those videos will ranked differently
TLOP is def my fav too just purely because of how much u can tell he was having fun w it. All the collaborators he had w him and just how he sounds, you can just tell he had fun making it and tuning it
The album blew my mind the first time I heard it. The sounds and arrangements are so unique and meaningful.
@@visualspark6308 at first I thought it was lowkey kinda mid bc wolves wasn't finished, chorus wasn't added to FSMH PT 1, Saint Pablo wasn't on it, etc. A lot of the parts I cherish now were not on it. Kanye is the greatest artist of all time. He has the greatest discography in the whole music industry. Even his unreleased albums are amazing tbh.
i think of that too, but i barely listen to another genre of music. i assume you listen to a lot of music, do you think that kanye is really the greatest compare to artist in other genre? such as rock
@@hakimfayyadi6132 yeah i think so.. , because he has done 10 albums and all those albums sound completely different. I'm from India and in India there are about 22 major languages. In my state 99% of the music is really melodic kind of music. Now only rap kind of music is getting introduced in Kerala. I love Every kind of music, but when it comes to kanye i think he is the greatest artist of all time. 99% of the kanye songs are perfect to me.
He never fails Mr.volk
saying that KSG is not as experimental as other Kanye albums when sonically is more experimental than any other Kanye album is so mind boggling, also its length is almost the same as Ye so I have no idea why wouldnt you rate it.
Its a crazy ass album that takes you on a druggish but clean ride to a beautiful conclusion, easily better than eg. Donda
more cohesion AND EXPERIMENTATION
But it isn’t sonically more experimental then other Kanye albums like at all
The Life of Pablo won’t be Kanye’s last masterpiece. The next one he brings out will definitely we ridiculously good because he’ll have to win people back like he did on Dark Fantasy and he’s taking his time to make it and that’s when he’s at his best

I love Yeezus, the production, the concept, the innovation, the risk, the rawness, but as a rapper it’s far from Kanye’s best rapping so I can’t put that over albums like college drop out, late registration, graduation, dark fantasy. And wtt is way too low on this imo. As far as collaboration albums go I can’t think of one that comes close and in the modern era it kinda set the precedent for collab projects to begin with. Dope vid as always though.
Forgot to add I’ve been saying for a couple years that TLOP has been aging well, I agree with everything you said on that. Late registration is still my favorite mainly for personal memories but tlop feels like dark fantasy on acid, covers the whole spectrum of emotions, a messy collage of a masterpiece

Yeezus, Life of Pablo & Late Registration in my opinion are his most underrated albums in Ye’s discography

3. MBDTF
4. College Dropout
5. Life of Pablo
6. 808s & Heartbreak
7. Graduation
8. Donda
9. Ye
10. Jesus is King
As a kid born in '99 my first Kanye album was Graduation. I mean I heard it as a kid because my sis was a Kanye fan those days. I love both New and Old Kanye, but I get a lil annoyed at the Life of Pablo hype because I feel "too many people say it's underrated" when in reality it is just a decent album. I think Life of Pablo functions as a double-edged sword. Its greatest strength is in it being a "greatest hits" album but it is also its greatest curse. The reason is because of how the album is structured. It isn't structured methodically where the earlier tracks resemble early Kanye and later tracks resemble the new and fresh sounds for a 2016 Kanye. That is what the album should have done. So Volksgeist I have to respectfully disagree with you as my top five is a little bit different. My top five is 1. Late Registration, 2. Yeezus, 3. 808s, 4. Ye, 5. Graduation.
Okay,so Yeezus is better than the college dropout, late registration and graduation…………..🙁
I don’t understand the 808s hate. It’s personally my favorite Kanye album. But I suppose that’s why Kanye is such a musical genius. Every album can be ranked so differently, because they’re all THAT GOOD.
Great video. I enjoyed it a lot. Personally I put 808s top of the list, but I totally see your points made.
Honestly, for some reason I would say donda was a masterpiece don’t get me wrong , songs that took little to no energy like tell the vision or junya pt2 weren’t that great but the writing on jail and the instruments and gospel for 24 was legendary and it took music to a whole new level. Donda is still relatively new though but it’s I believe when time passes on it’ll be on a lot more top 5s for sure
Glad you highlighted 24 as i fell its a very underrated track, but i would like to add that come to life is a top 5 all time ye song, and jesus lord pt. 2 is magnificent, both lyrically from every feature, and in the meditative, elevated vibe that the production brings. And never abandon your family is the only ye song to make me cry the first time i heard it. Donda belongs in the top 5.
