Utopia is the fifth studio album by American rapper Travis Scott. It was released on July 28, 2023, by Cactus Jack and Epic Records. The album features guest vocals from KayCyy, Teezo Touchdown, Bon Iver, Yves Tumor, Sampha, Drake, Playboi Carti, Sheck Wes, Beyoncé, Rob49, 21 Savage, the Weeknd, Yung Lean, Young Thug, James Blake, Westside Gunn, Kid Cudi, Bad Bunny, Future, and SZA. Production was handled by a variety of record producers, including Scott and James Blake themselves, WondaGurl, Kanye West, Allen Ritter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Wheezy, Pharrell Williams, Buddy Ross, Vegyn, 30 Roc, Jahaan Sweet, Boi-1da, Vinylz, Tay Keith, BNYX, Oz, the Alchemist, Dom Maker, Illangelo, DVLP, and Metro Boomin, among others. Utopia serves as the follow-up to Scott's third studio album, Astroworld (2018), as well as JackBoys (2019), his compilation album that was released in collaboration with his record label, Cactus Jack Records (also known as JackBoys) and yves (frequent collaborator and friend of Travis).
The album was supported by two singles, "K-pop" and "Delresto (Echoes)", and is a concept record that was accompanied by a film, Circus Maximus, which was released the day before the album. The album also has four alternative cover arts with different versions to each, in which Scott posted all of them to his Instagram profile in the days leading up to its release, and is also his first project to not be released under Grand Hustle Records as his deal with the record label ended before its release.
score: 9/10

Travis Scott’s Astro world is an artist making a commercially successful album, Utopia is an artist showing you why they’re famous in the first place
i like this explanation. cause that’s what he was even known for originally; his production.
Yup its different But it's still mid though
@@chrisking8579 you are on crack if you think this album was mid. Name all the mid songs on the album then
@@chrisking8579what's a peak album to you
@@chrisking8579 bro was expecting astroworld 2
the criticism of Travis having similar sounds to Yeezus is funny when you consider he had production credits on Yeezus. Kanye went to Travis when he wanted a new sound. Travis is just expanding on what he’s always been working on.
real
Then there is no criticism cuz he worked on both that's why it sounds the same
I love your comment
People just love to hate on Travis but don’t even know anything from anything smh
He stole the sound of Black Skinhead and I Am A God for CIRCUS MAXIMUS and MODERN JAM, both the drums, melodies and flows are clearly “inspired” by those songs. Yeah he also worked on YEEZUS, but Travis is almost stealing those songs from Kanye.
It’s not a new sound, it’s not experimental, this sound is 10 years old
that part. this seems to be the most true-to-self he’s gotten on a project since rodeo. the progressive rock, the kanye-like sampling, hard beat switches, etc. travis has been doing this since way before yeezus. this project feels more like travis taking back some power after heavily curating for kanye all these years. i’d say this is instantly better than astroworld.
i would say UTOPIA delivered. really happy that travis didn't create an ASTROWORLD 2.0 and continues to curate and develop his sound.
id say it lived up to the hype
U sound so sure
Nah🙄
i agree
@@xoxoxoxoxooxonot a real travis fan

Utopia seems like a matured version of owl Pharoah IMO.
Yerrr
I loved UTOPIA but I really wish Travis had more songs with that dark, melancholic feel like MY EYES. Like that is the best song i’ve heard this year
The transition 😢
Agree
MY EYES is the only song I actually download off utopia and will go back to. Everything else is just kind of forgettable
@@drinkmoreagua8984 I enjoyed the whole album, but MY EYES is the song i’ll definitely go back to the most
Drop your fav Utopia song here mine is My Eyes

Too early for me to choose my favorite but I'm leaning towards Hyaena, Sirens, Delresto, Telekenisis, and My Eyes. Im addicted to the sample used on Hyaena.
Definitely telekinesis, I would even venture as far as saying it’s my In my top 5 favorite hip hop tracks of the last 5 years
MY EYES is Utopia's 90210. One of Travis' best songs.
Here to say utopia is Travis Scott best album .. and arguably album of the year .. it will grow on people
Agreed
Best album is WILD
@@panzer7181not really. It’s better than rodeo and astroworld
Meatrider it's not
it's not arguably 💀 it's most definitely album of the year. only slight competition is jpegmafia and yachty
Album was everything I could’ve asked for as a fan of his work. Album feels like a creative pt.2 of Rodeo. Dark, atmospheric, spacey, and futuristic in so many points of the record. There are a few misses, but some it feels like his hand was forced to try to please so many audiences. K-POP sounding like a song off birds or something. I am SO surprised you aren’t fucking with Meltdown, shit sounds like it could slot into Rodeo perfectly if it was made in 2015. BNYX absolutely kills the beat and drake just feels like drake doing his thing. Punchy one liners and taking shots at people in the industry. LOST MY SHIT HEARING THE TIE FIGHTER BLASTERS BEHIND TRAVY’S FIRST VERSE, beat switch sounds like a sicko mode pt2 beat switch. Great review glad you overall enjoyed it. Keep up the quality videos Volksgeist.
im saying bro in car high asf listening to this for the first time i was gassed when the drake verse and travy verses came in
I’m not going to lie, I hate Drake, but meltdown is amazing and Drake’s verse is so good, one of the best deliveries I’ve heard from him
Why do u hate drake 😭
The delivery is definitely very good for todays drake standards, but as VG already said, the lyrics are so incredibly corny (as usual) and especially the Pharell Diss seems completely out of touch and unnecessary in a way
@@yawnings Yeah pretty out of pocket
@@yawningsman how long has we all listened to hip hop? Dissing a part of it and no one said all this when pusha dissed 40 so I don’t wanna hear it was unnecessary
@@yawningsit aint weird when push wished death on 40? Who had nothing to do with the beef?
Yes he delivered, and he exceeded my expectations tbh!
People don’t want to admit because people live on nostalgia but I have replayed UTOPIA more than I replayed ASTROWORLD when it came out.
I compare UTOPIA to Michael Jackson’s BAD album, he had to follow up Thriller and he delivered, Travis had to follow Astroworld and delivered
Incredible album review as usual. Your descriptions of the instruments, vocals, mixing etc are second to none. I watched this review before listening to the album and I have to say it was spot on how I felt. Keep up the great work. Love from Australia 🇦🇺
been loving the vids man, huge fan of a lotta of the artist you really dive into the details of. shit that’s very interesting and you make hella enjoyable to watch with the graphic’s clean asf. keep it up brother this is good stuff
This album is better than Uzi’s album in my opinion. People are mad cause it sounds less demonic💀🤣
I told all of my friends months / years in advance that Utopia would be Travis’ Yeezus. Not only was I right but it surpassed my thoughts of what it would be. It gets better with every listen.
This album made Travis immortal. I can confidently say that he’s going to go down as one of the greatest to ever do it.
Fax
nah
Album felt like a mix of kanyes' album...
Kanye played a role in this albums production
I literally said this to to my friends directly after hearing this.
Sounds great
@@Goofybeatzand Travis played a role in Kanye’s albums.
@@caedmonswanson2378fr he influenced Kanye for Yeezus
The production on Utopia is incredible. If you have a decent set of headphones or any good speakers I think it's undeniable.
Personally I just like Travis's style and how his voice sounds. I think the flows sound sick ,the choruses are catchy and there's so much nuance in the beats that it never gets boring.
I'm not really into picking apart everything that might be wrong with it just so I can throw out some score as if there's any factual objective way to grade music.
I simply can just say I love Utopia and I wasn't disappointed at all.
I have to say that I absolutely love the production quality on these videos. I originally got into your channel with the "What Makes Rodeo a Classic" video and I was blown away by the quality and dedication of your videos. Keep that shit up
That being said, I have to completely disagree with your opinion on MELTDOWN. I haven't heard Drake go into menace mode like this in years, and it's obviously not the most impressive or cohesive song from a quality standpoint, but that's not the point of this song. This is a party song, but in no way does that mean it's a bad song. The whisper Drake verse, the insane transition from Drake to Travis (which reminds me a lot of the transition in the other Drake/Travis collab, Company), the horns blasting in the background of Travis' verse. It's almost impossible for me to not stand up and start dancing when this comes on
Facts
Dude watching your rant on Meltdown is so funny because you being off-script is so weird because I’m used to you sounding sophisticated in your vids lol.
everyone’s gonna stay hating on this album until they hear it live
I kinda agree with you on the Drake Verse, but what I think one has to differentiate between is the delivery and the actual lyrics. While I personally think that the delivery is really good for todays Drake standards, I also do think that the incredibly corny lyrics kinda make me wanna forget his Verse, which kinda sucks cuz the content of it e.g. the Pharell Diss seem so unnecessary and out of touch. It feels like this has been a problem of Drakes music (for me personally) for a while now, I hope his new album will go in a different lyrical direction.
Utopia > pink tape
So true, utopia is miles better
Common sense
I love this comment and replied
You don't HAVE to hate on Drake every time he opens his mouth. Dude has made more quality music in the last 2 years than the he has at any point after views.
I love drake
@@Volksgeist The whole verse (except the Pharell Diss) was a Kodak diss.
I love drakes music and his verse was solid, but most of the album just didn’t hit for me
@@Leftlane4passingDrake is ass😂
it's getting tiring
drakes verse is the worst? thats crazy
He's always been a drake hater. A lot of these internet crowd / youtube crowd, don't like drake. Idk if that's they don't go out and party or make memories to his music, or if there is causation between the type of people who make videos and like more niche sounds. But yeah he's always been an "I don't hate drake I like some of his old stuff" which is basically the music version of I'm not racist I have black friends, at this point. Drakes verse to me is one of if not the best verse on the album
@@goodmusic4389 "music version of 'I am not racist I have black friends" u killed me haha
Nah not the worst but deff corny
Drake look mad goofy right now
@@goodmusic4389music nerds are lame. This is the sad truth. Yeah I agree Drake had the best verse in the album easily although it's not a huge achievement.
After first listen it already became my fav project from him this time no skips at all I love every track he did a good job
Amazing review. Loved how you became honest with some of the tracks like meltdown
Based review 👍 mostly agree. Think you were a bit too hard on Meltdown, and it was also probably worth mentioning that Ye was in the studio with Travis for most of Yeezus.
ok hear me out. I think the ending of sirens is a direct reference to the verse on sicko mode "She said, "Where we goin'?" I said, "The moon"
We ain't even make it to the room" ...they made it to the room now but its also weird that drizzy says it. i think meltdown has a very similar concept to sicko mode in general. trav and drake on a heavy song, similar song structure and switching melodies and beat. otherwise i mostly agree with your opinions about utopia :)
this is one of the best opinions there is right now. everyone who is in the music world understands this album and all true fans but i understand why the song meltdown and topia twins is on the album. because he knows that this is a different travis but he put those two songs on the album to give the astroworld fans something. But this is an album for real travis fans and not astroworld fans if you really like music you get to see the beauty of this album and the perfection of this album. and that is why its so good and I hope that this album is going to age well and inspire the new generation of artist also what he did with rodeo and astroworld
I honestly think the balance of rodeo like tracks were mixed perfectly with the few trap bangers, overall this album has lived up to the hype in my eyes
Honestly,
It did not hit the same way Astroworld did.
Travis didn’t include “VISION”
Maybe because it was leaked idk. But I was really looking forward to hearing the full version of it. It’s heavenly
Maybe he’ll release a deluxe later. I said maybe
My eyes is one the best, still fucken mad about the beat switch on lost forever
I hated the beat switch for lost forever at first but I like it now
I can’t believe you’re only 20/21 years old. Stay clear and straight Phillip, your future is bright young’n.
this guy had feels exactly the same way i feel about every song, i don’t care what anyone says about utopia, i been with travis since the beginning and i love it
Both of my best friends hate it lol. I enjoyed the first listen and I’ve been giving it spins, it’s growing on me. Not gonna lie I didn’t love it as much as Birds or Astroworld on first listen but I liked it a lot. More excited to see it live.
This is the reason why superfans should not be the ones reviewing albums of their favorite artists. In all honesty, this album doesn't meet the expectations. It's essential to be objective and truthful because lying won't be of any assistance to the artist's growth. It's as if the reviewers haven't even listened to the artist's previous acclaimed albums like Rodeo, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, or Astroworld. The release of this album seems like a mistake; it pales in comparison, especially when you have standout tracks like "Astro-thunder." Moreover, the title "Utopia" feels disconnected from the actual content, and the reason behind it remains unclear to me. Mid like the Middle East!
Fucking thank you. I feel like everyone in the comments and reviewers are trying their hardest to not say it’s bad.
The beat on Meltdown is crazy!
I wish Kenny or Keem woulda had the opening verse instead of Drake
Im sooo damn glad that somebody else says some good words about parasail. It's such a vibe and a half
I thought it was mid, at first, but the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me.
There are good songs, but an album is as good as the least strong song. This album is a 5/10.
Drake did his thing on meltdown
i like topia twins, fits with the theme of underlying issues under success
the verses are typical flex
and the chorus is great
Great review!🙏🏼
My Eyes is the the updated, new version of 90210 if it done on today times.
I had my reservations but this album is is possibly one of Scott's most creative ventures yet.
def. needed to come back to this a week later after listening to the album
Puberty hit you like a meteor my man! Love you see growing with your channel
this album is exactly how I expected it to be. it’s the opposite of Utopia, it’ll definitely grow on people over the years. it’s very consistent compared to his last two albums
I think the mixes could be better actually . When Mafia and Escape Plan dropped in Atmos, those were incredible. Mafia specifically, if you hear it in Atmos in headphones it's like an otherworldly experience. The layering of the vocals and ad libs is masterful. It makes it more than just a great song. I feel like all the tracks of Utopia could have that same level of meticulous treatment. It's a great album, but in Atmos it could be an auditory experience.
As I've listened to it more I realised if he released a full rage album..people would sh!t on him,Am sure when mafia and escape plan were released utopia sounded so diffrent but after the astroworld incident his best PR move is to make a chill album
guys i think volksgeist is scared of the 6ix 😳
Ordered the Vinyl after my 2nd full listen. The album is really just that fucking awesome.
You tweakin drake snapped the album fire, trap music does have a decline happening but it isn’t gone. Travis definitely delivered
I feel like it’s cool to be critical of drake . I agree with ya . Drake did good
I love the fact that every song has its own vibe and everyone has a fav song on there… it’s for everyone if I’m making sense
Scott delivered with this one most definitely 💯🔥
so many good songs, everybody’s favourite is different ~ everybody opinion is mixed, that’s how you know he done something good. Furthermore with Travis Scott style it’s crazy how huge this album is being received
💯💯💯💯‼️‼️‼️‼️
Only thing it didn’t deliver was a Don Toliver feature but I still loved it
tbh I'm happy cause I'm not rly big on him
Apparently he sang with Travis on parasail
I think utopia tried to be so diffrent it ended up having no identity.
Great video dude
Album was amazing
Idk what he was supposed to drop but it wasn’t this. That was for him to figure out 😂
I wanna see u cover underground artists... billy woods, injury reserve, mach hommy, roc marciano. That'd be dope.
At first I defintley though it was sort of a rehash or Astroworld, and while I think there are some paralles to astroworld in terms of the formatting etc, I think its its own different thing. It defintley delivered and good for travis.
I love the drake part on sirens, the beat is insane
I will say, I understand what you said about skitzo but what makes that 6mins worth it is knowing that the song is about the different feelings from the Astroworld events, young thugs incarceration, and the break up with Kylie etc.
Agreed 9/10 for me to love the new sound
Utopia is a fresh, fun and dark ride! Hehe, drake impression was funny, I know meltdown is like bringin glock heat into an artistic hand combat! 🤣👽
I hear your issues with Topia Twins & Fien but those hit different in the gym
He literally pioneered a style that everybody is trying to emulate and switched his style to emulate Kanye who isn't even popping anymore.
That’s not what happened. If you go back, this is Travis OG sound😂😂
@@FlyGuyLaFlarebecause youger travi$ wanted to sound exactly like Ye
the meltdown hate is crazy. tha boi snapped
Good take 👍
when travis last dropped i was in middle school... i'm in college now lol
Thank you for acknowledging that Drake verse wasn’t top tier … so many ppl said wow Drake went so hard one of his best verses “he has never rapped this hard” “ for all the dogs 6666 “
1855 days, i been goong thru something
MY EYES is so amazing
Meltdown was incredible man it’s. A party banger specifically designed to move people
Thank god you said that about drakes verse man I have no idea why it’s getting hype felt like a freestyles diss , not fit for the album
Personally, yes
It’s the Travi$ album I wanted
i just think utopia doesnt have a lot of replay value. a lot of songs feel like intros/outros which i guess suits the concept of Utopia, entering a new world - leaving an old one. but do i see a lot of these songs in my playlist? no.
isnt an album considered a classic, if you can relisten after years and still enjoy ? to me travis has been locked in the basement for too long, not seeing enough sunshine and actually being in touch with life for this to be a timeless album.
Travis was doing the hotel room thing, also drake went off, Meltdown's Fire, you was right the first time
Personally I really like it minua k pop it's my personal album of the year
NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THAT GLOWUP WHATTTT
imo he 100% delivered, aoty imo
The ending of sirens gave me second hand embarrassment when I thought about drake and some girl recording that in a studio 😂💀
I was actually surprised how much I liked this album
I totally agree with the meltdown take 🤷♂️
Meltdown is an excellent song, hard disagree here 😂
Travis himself said utopia is where you are. Drake's verse is pretty epic so for you to say that is wild lol. its your channel and your opinion though so that's fair. but give it 30 days and listen again. its one of those verses you have to do research and put context to it . though its not my favorite song on the album its definitely not trash. btw love the channel and "I know" is my favorite song so far
BRO COOKED 🔥🔥🔥🔥 AND WE ATE
was my eyes meant for frank ocean at first?
Til Further Notice would've been my favorite song if it wasn't for 21.
I thought 21 did fine, not incredible but not terrible either. I do feel this is one of 21's best verses though
@@user-rf1op3uh6n I just don't think his voice fits with the vibe of the song personally, I would've expected to hear his voice on something like MELTDOWN instead, not the final song of the album which, honestly should've just had Travis and James. I listened to a version without 21 and I feel it just flows and feels better.
@@plvto1we still got mile high w/ trav and blake
MODERN JAM is probably my favorite so far. like teezo actually sounds like kate bush
Til further notice was also leaked but not as many people heard it I guess 🤷♂️

No I’m not sure
Modern jam and LOOOVE defender since day 1
how old are you in 2018
u did topia twins dirty bro that shit fire...ok lemme be honest to me the whole tracklist hits hard...imma be outside if yall wanna duke it out
if you compare them, quality and details are much better on utopia than on astroworld
