Was looking for a small and very portable stabilizer and I found this while searching the net, so I went to CZcams to look for reviews. You're probably the only one who reviewed it properly, most reviews didn't even properly stabilized their cameras. Also, it's really helpful that you mentioned that it doesn't work for very lightweight cameras. Now I'm torn because I was going to use it with an action camera..
I'm not big on commenting on CZcams videos but you're the only person from all the people who have made videos that has discovered the flaw in the weight...I added some small sheets of metal into my iphone 6 case and now it's PERFECT! Thanks man!!!!
Hey Kevin, thank you! And so far you are the only person who commented on this important aspect! :) Ha ha ha! Before I made my video, I watched all the reviews about it (at that time) and A LOT of them demonstrated "how amazing this product is", but with the gimbal completely unbalanced! This is so weird... I don't know if it has to do with affiliate links - so, people making reviews are desperate to convince everybody to buy the product (and earn their commission)... even when they are not sure if the product is great or not. Once more, thanks!!!

Many people at kickstarter page are hating the product but I think no one really takes their time. I also made some videos (not like your prof ones of course) to explain the idea and how it works and share them at youtube. I think you made the best review so far and everything is on point. Thanks.
Thank you so much Murat! Yeah, I spent a few hours reading the comments on Kickstarter before making this video - people complaining the "magnets are not strong enough" and "the stabilizer waves a lot"... The Smoovie people should have made a video explaining exactly how to use the product, but even more important: for light phones, the product doesn't perform as it should - as I tried to demonstrate. Ok, it was cheap - nobody argues that - but nobody backs it expecting to add their own "DIY touch" so it can work properly, ha ha ha.
Actually they have some videos at their site (www.pocketsmoovie.com/video/) but not detailed, also top weight is a big problem (cant use it with my Samsung GS4 as well). Maybe they will fix it with second generation but until than we will remain beta testers :) As for the links you shared, no problem at all.
Oh, I didn't know those videos were official instructions! I didn't know this page, but I had already watched two of the videos on CZcams - I was wondering "How this guy just made this video in June??", now it makes sense :)
Dude, when you walk it seems very smooth! Thank you for mentioning it! EVO SP 3 Axis Gimbal Stabilizer for iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6 Smartphones, from EVO Gimbals: - amzn.to/2csCdVq (Amazon USA)
I finally tested the Smoovie Plus with a GoPro Hero 5 (now I have one): I found it is easier to balance and get nice shots with the GoPro than with the iPhone 5 plus extra-weight.
Hi there! 👋 I need to say that, even though this gimbal was fine and fun to use, the image results are far from what you get when using a good electronic/3axis gimbal - and there are many cheap (less than $100 USD) stabilizers now - I watched a few reviews that seem legit. I personally have the GoPro Karma Grip (for the GoPro Hero 5) and the footage is SO SMOOTH. Anyway, the newer GoPros (8 and 9) produces amazingly smooth/stable footage on the camera itself - of course it is expensive, but I need to stress out HOW MUCH BETTER it is than with the gimbal I reviewed in this video.
Good review. To the point. No real fluff, just enough fun to keep us interested. That fun is also informative. Love your personality too. I already have the Smoovie Plus and you helped me learn to use it even better. Good Job.!!!.
Hi Jesse! I really appreciate your kind words - it encourages me to keep putting time and effort on my videos. I recently bought a GoPro Hero 5 + Karma Grip. Sure, in terms of price, it goes totally in the other direction: expensive (the whole thing set me back around U$ 800), but the results are surreal, really smooth and easy to operate (I'll certainly make a video about it in the next months) - if you are into stabilisation, it is worth taking a look. And welcome to Geek Detour! :)
Thank you! Now I am playing with the GoPro Karma Grip - totally different approach (and price-point, obviously)... and the results are SO DIFFERENT. I need to make a video about it. It is that "easy" thing to operate that gives you very smooth footage - unfortunately, comes at a huge price :)
Thank you, your video helped me a lot! I have an iPhone 5, this means that i have to work on putting extra weight. People buying this product should check this video.
I have this gimbal. The problem is that I cannot position the phone on the handle properly because that it has buttons that are pressed with the handle. So it is difficult then to get the center of the weight and the phone is slightly rotated to one side. That's why I decided to build DIY gimbal with the use of PCV pipes and bearings.
Thank you! I hope the subtitles were helpful :) I really appreciate your comment: English is not my native language (I am Brazilian, living in Spain), BUT I decided making this channel in English exactly to reach more people than if I did it in Portuguese. And it seems I was right! I feel surprised and honored by you watching my video in Japan. Welcome to Geek Detour :)
Thank you for your reply. I am pleased that I am connected with the world. Both Spain and Brazil adore! I think everyone in Japan likes it. Rather, Japanese people are rather cheerful and bright. Nice ... Spain. I would like to go once. I should have gone when I was young. Anyway, I was happy that I reply to a foreign message I wrote for the first time and I replied again. Thank you! Thank you Akın, very kind words! 😊 I think the channel is doing very well considering the frequency of my uploads 🤣 On my dreams I would upload every week - but it’s been a challenge so far to upload once a month.
I like your rubber eraser idea, I'll have to give it a try with my iPhone 6. I have had my smoothie for a while now, but haven't been able to really use it because of balance. I was thinking of putting a large hardware style washer in to my phone case, but would rather not have to keep taking it off. Have you tried taking smaller steps to see if it helps with some of the movement from walking?
I didn't had the opportunity to go outdoors with the Smoovie after I did the review - I was super busy finishing this video: czcams.com/video/vrPzsP2gl4M/video.html The day I was in the park recording what you see in my review, I tried several "techniques", ha ha, I couldn't make it "butter smooth" - BUT, watching other people's reviews and tests I concluded that, when you are filming someone or something that is closer to the phone, the movement bothers less than when you are recording just "landscape" on a path - because we tend to fix the eye in subjects that are far away... So, I think it is OK for vlogs and recording someone in a trip :)
Thank you! I almost backed the Steadicam Volt on Kickstarter... and now I am glad I didn't. You have the same tedious "balancing" routine - and it still needs some mastery. This review is very enlightening: czcams.com/video/UjAmm92zS2c/video.html What I bought (and I totally love it now) is a GoPro Hero 5 + Karma Grip. I love the results and how easy it is to operate!
I guess there was a typo there - you mean the DJI "Osmo" Mobile, right? Yeah, I saw several reviews and it looks awesome! But I think I might end up buying a GoPro 5 and their "Karma Grip": czcams.com/video/8vu7IDuDD64/video.html
Could you make the #Smoovie work fine? I was king of surprised when I tested an iPhone 5 (same weight of the new iPhone SE) - and I couldn't get a perfect balance. I don't know how many people will bother to try balancing it 100% like I was obsessed, ha ha ha. Let me know what you think! :)
hello friend good night, I ask you for help .. the weight of the cell phone should be the same from below? I hope you can help me because I can not keep it stable, thank you very much
Hi Cris. Your phone is too lightweight if it goes heavier than the bottom part even with the counterweight completely retracted (in which case there is no solution than adding weight to the phone end). Otherwise, you should be able to find the ideal extension of the counterweight (and patiently centralize the phone on the support). Good luck! It sucks when your are in a hurry - that’s why I ended up buying a GoPro Hero 5 with the KarmaGrip 🤪
Hi Pablo, thank you! Last December I purchased a GoPro Hero 5 + Karma Grip... oh boy: totally different animal! I am absolutely in love with it (I am sure you know what I am talking about since you have the Osmo... it is so simple to use and gives amazing results). Yeah, it is expensive, but it is totally worth it - don't you think??
Hi there! Oh, there are so many better options right now: motorized 3 axis gimbal stabilizers are SO MUCH easier to use and the results are FAR BETTER - and their prices dropped a lot. You can find 3 axis gimbals to put your phone, for less then U$, which is an amazing value. I already say them around 50!
Hi there Reginaldo! The StayblCam was a project I considered buying in the past, but then I thought 75 dollars was a bit expensive for just "giving it a try". Very recently I went into a totally different direction: I purchased a GoPro Hero 5 + GoPro Karma Grip, which is NOT CHEAP, but I AM ABSOLUTELY HAPPY with the stabilization and how easy it is to use it, walk/run with it - video gets really smooth. I will certainly make a review on the Karma Grip :)
I didn't buy the karma drone. I bought only the Karma Grip. This is it: czcams.com/video/8vu7IDuDD64/video.html It is my first GoPro camera, and I couldn't be happier with this setup :)
Bought one. Useless! Unusable for even walking speed movement. Essentially for slow stuff, it's inferior to your hand and for fast stuff, it's useless as it can't handle direction change and is way too unstable. Don't waste your money.
Yeah, I got the Karma Grip + GoPro Hero 5 and it is SUPERB stabilisation and very intuitive/easy to use. The only problem would be that sound is not as great as when you have the GoPro alone - but thats a thing with most 3axis gyro stabilisers so far.
Hi Adans, do you have the X-Cam Sight II? I just watched a few reviews and tests/comparisons... The video still shakes quite a lot when walking: czcams.com/video/OcCLL_MZiXM/video.html
You are right... compared to the other gyro stabilizers it is far cheaper - but to my needs, it still shakes a lot from left to right. I am using the GoPro Karma Grip + GoPro Hero 5 (I know, FAR more expensive: the whole thing is almost $800), but I am really pleased with the results. I will make a review about it on a few weeks.
You are totally right: there is a special "smooth walking" to be learned, ha ha ha. Just getting out of the box and going for a regular walk doesn't get smooth shots. And that's the point: the product positions itself as something for casual recordings. I am SO WAITING for the Karma Grip, from GoPro... have you seen it? czcams.com/video/8vu7IDuDD64/video.html
Hi RageON! Yes, with the proper adapter it can be used with a GoPro (which I didn't have when I made this video). Anyway, when I finally bought my GoPro Hero 5, I also purchased the Karma Grip - and I can say, there is no turning back :) The Karma Grip is VERY EASY to use and the results are STUNNING - of course it costs quite some money... but I think it is worth saving for such definitive rig.
I am looking to buy me this! I saw that I can buy it from a website called indiegogo...but then I saw that it's still in kickstarter or something and it's not garunteed that you will get it or something? Where would you recommend to buy it (that's to say if you can buy it)?
Apparently, now the only place to buy is from Indiegogo. I just looked at their website, www.pocketsmoovie.com/shop/ , and when you click "Shop" and "buy", it also goes to Indiegogo :)
Happy Kagathara, hi! This is a very simple device - anything that adds weight to the phone (like, heavy lenses) might change considerably the balance... in the end, this solution is like “better than by bare hands”. I’ve been using the GoPro 5 plus Karma Grip - a complete game changer! That is really stable and easy to use (and not cheap).
Hi Yanes! Since December 2016 I completely changed the way I am recording my "casual", personal and travel videos - I finally decided to try the GoPro + Karma Grip... and... OH BOY it is AWESOME! True, it is on the total opposite $ide, very expensive - but the shots are so stable and it is very easy to operate. I know it is a completely different thing, but I really recommend the Karma Grip if you are looking into really stable video.
Hi Arielartista, the Smoovie Plus is really for smartphones and GoPro... the Sony RX100 III is already too heavy for it. The Big Gimbal I show in the end of the video would do it - but it is far from discrete (for Vlogging, in my opinion). You will probably be better served with electronic stabilizers for Mirrorless cameras - like this one: amzn.to/2i8LZ0A - you will notice they are expensive... my advice is for you to find some friend who uses one of these and test if this is something that will work for you and your camera. Or check a specialized store who can demonstrate these products for you. Good luck!
Hello Geek. I want to get a cheap stabilizer for my phone (it does not have optical image stabilizer) so I need an external device. Would you recommend Smoovie or are there better options? Thank you.
Hey Carlos! Man, I think there are better options. The Smoovie Plus works up to a certain point... I don't regret buying it because it was really cheap. In a near future I'll probably buy a GoPro Hero 5 and its "Karma Grip" - the whole thing will be expensive, but I saw some footage and it looks absolutely amazing!
Oh, they are very different products in terms of quality and possibilities! The "Smoovie Plus" is VERY cheap and limited. The "Roxant Pro" can handle much heavier cameras and has a much nicer built quality (it is more expensive as well)!
Yes, it is better than bare hands - but there are MUCH BETTER options right now (although all of them are expensive). I ended up purchasing a GoPro + KarmaGrip and the results were always magical.

What the! I can see the video so much because of you saying popping on the screen!!!
good video
Thanks! :)
hey great video!!! thank u !!
thank for your video. I guess 3axis gimbals is the only way.
Yeah, I got the Karma Grip + GoPro Hero 5 and it is SUPERB stabilisation and very intuitive/easy to use. The only problem would be that sound is not as great as when you have the GoPro alone - but thats a thing with most 3axis gyro stabilisers so far.
X-Cam Sight 2 - really cheap 2 axis gimbal for 40-60 USD
Hi Adans, do you have the X-Cam Sight II? I just watched a few reviews and tests/comparisons... The video still shakes quite a lot when walking: czcams.com/video/OcCLL_MZiXM/video.html
You are right... compared to the other gyro stabilizers it is far cheaper - but to my needs, it still shakes a lot from left to right. I am using the GoPro Karma Grip + GoPro Hero 5 (I know, FAR more expensive: the whole thing is almost $800), but I am really pleased with the results. I will make a review about it on a few weeks.
This was a good video
Nice job
Very helpful video!
Thank you Maupiatka!

I only use tripods with my Canon. Anyone, suggestions??

Sir can İn Redmi 8 6,22 inc
You have to use the gimble walk/shuffle, all professionals do this, not your regular walk...
Plz give links in India website
Wauuu good job
Nice tutorial! =)
dont forget canada. would this work for action cams
Would this stabilizer perform well for a smartphone with add-on isolated lens (no lens system)?
Happy Kagathara, hi! This is a very simple device - anything that adds weight to the phone (like, heavy lenses) might change considerably the balance... in the end, this solution is like “better than by bare hands”. I’ve been using the GoPro 5 plus Karma Grip - a complete game changer! That is really stable and easy to use (and not cheap).
Super
how to rule if i want to buy it?
Cool papa💛
how to buy?
Does it work with a Sony Mark III? I need to find a small stabilizer for my vlog camera.
Good luck!
Geek Detour thank you so much for the information! I will definitely look into the electronic stabilizer option. Thanks again
อยากได้ครับราคาเท่าไหร่
Great video, and it seems also a great product, at leat for the price .-)
Thank you Paulo! Yeah, for the price point I think it is very well made!
Thank you Man!
Should i get this or Roxent Pro?
Oh, they are very different products in terms of quality and possibilities! The "Smoovie Plus" is VERY cheap and limited. The "Roxant Pro" can handle much heavier cameras and has a much nicer built quality (it is more expensive as well)!
Here in our country, roxent pro is called Debo, and both Smoovie plus and Debo has the same price
Is this stabilizer really stabilizing a video recording?
Yes, it is better than bare hands - but there are MUCH BETTER options right now (although all of them are expensive). I ended up purchasing a GoPro + KarmaGrip and the results were always magical.
@@GeekDetour I see, but can a phone mount on KarmaGrip?
it's not for India..?
Nishchal Malviya I suppose you can find it in India as well!
Geek Detour not available in India I am not able to find 😢
