      You are poorly informed, the radiation is carried in the fallout, if the barrels are sealed, no risk. The Gama or alpha waves will pass through but won't turn the water into "heavy" water which would be bad.
      My first thought was freeze/thaw comprimising the containers.

      There is, it just wasn't shown. His bunker is made by a company called "Atlas Survival Shelters". It comes standard with the toilet, shower, sinks, etc. Also comes with power options for Solar, Wind, Generators, or can be hooked to a Grid (most people go with Grid + one of the aforementioned). All of the major bunker production companies include toilets and showers. :P "Rising S" "Atlas Survival Shelters" "Deep Earth Bunkers" etc.
      The exact bunker this guy has is this one:
      www.atlassurvivalshelters.com/10x50-common-room-round-culvert
      If he got it for 65k he got it for a steal of a price honestly. The fact that he is showing it off means he likely works for Atlas.

    • @dragonfriendly1
      @dragonfriendly1 Před 8 lety

      I'm going to call bull-shit. Slavery for example - "When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)" or if that doesn't catch your fancy here's this one "When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl’s owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)" New testament or old it doesn't matter. "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)
      Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)" Jesus/God seems pretty cool with slavery. That simple fact makes any man or woman who disagrees with slavery more moral than this "God" and this isn't even talking about unbelievers. I'll save that for later, as this reply is already pretty damn long :P

  • @jimbass7867
    @jimbass7867 Před 9 lety +33

    If bunkers worked, then the proof in them would be known. The best bunker builders the world ever knew were taken out in just a few years. The Germans of WWII thought bunkers were the "Be all" in self protection. Also, the biggest, most elaborate, best defended bunker of all time, the Maginot line, was over whelmed and the occupants flushed out in five weeks. Even deep redoubt holdovers from WWII thought they could make in their bunkers deep in the Bavarian Alps, yet, they were all rooted out within a few months.
    Bunkers do not work. Mobility, common sense, and good skills preparation are what made most survivors through out history survive the longest in disastrous times. The record hold-outs, who were the isolated Japaneses soldiers in the Pacific Islands, such as Borneo, Guam and the Philippines did not use bunkers; they used mobility, common sense and good survival skills.

    • @jimbass7867
      @jimbass7867 Před 9 lety +2

      ***** Actually, I have searched for any success in that portion of the "bunker" phenomenon. So far, I have not found a single example of how bunkers helped in the long run. Short term, yes, such as refuges from storms and air raids and such. But, static survival is a dead end effort. Eventually, you run out of food and consumables. You must then leave the bunker and head to more fruitful sources of sustenance. Consider a societal collapse, which it seems to me most of these type "bunker" strategies are designed to resist. With the fall of organized law enforcement, a rogue government is imposed on the local citizenry. Most people do not have the resources to initially hide from such immediate chaos and thus fall either victim or willing participant to it. The existing groups most equipped to take over power with the decline of organized law enforcement and government are criminal gangs and various civil militias. Obviously, with the collapse of civil order, there will be a power vacuum and it will quickly be filled by these pre-disaster organized groups. Almost certainly, there will be armed conflict as these groups vie for control of territory and population and ever more scare resources. The "Bunkered" people will try to avoid this era as much as possible and probably will. However, the outcome of such base collisions between power structures will result in dramatically altered society as Warlords become better established. eventually, as resources dwindle, there will be a kind of "treasure hunt" for any remaining things of value from the past culture, such as oatmeal, wheat, rice, batteries, fuel, clothing- just the sorts of things these bunkered folks would have. Heaven help them as they are eventually rooted out.
      So, instead of bunkering, it seems to me these types would be far better off organizing a kind of "surface brigade" of like minded people who are determined to survive and thrive. The larger the group and the better trained and equipped it is in the Pre-Apocalypse, the far better chances they have of making it to the top of the inevitable post apocalyptic power heap. The fights between power mongers in such an environment will be fierce and they will be ruthless. I have no confidence such mental attitude as will be required to survive in that world is something very many people living in a contemporary peaceful society will be prepared to demonstrate. I believe survival in that terrible world will require some very attitude altering lessons before the event comes in which it will be needed.
      Here is a question that was presented at a survivalist group meeting I attended (and ultimately became a member of for quite some time); This question has no correct answer. But, it does make one think; -
      "The disaster has happened, society as you knew it is dead. The "hammer" has fallen. You have made it to your well organized and thought out A.O. You have your supplies all properly planned out, You can last for a year, no problem with your family. One day, a very bedraggled family of four, a man, his wife, and their two little daughters, one three and the other six wander into your A.O. They see you and the wonderful things you have.. They have nothing but the rags on their backs and desperately need help. What do you do?"
      How you answer that question can instantly tell a trained survivalist whether you are of a mentality to make it or not.
      The post apocalyptic world will be far different than the one you are living in. Most people do not understand just how different it will be. Today, you might pay a dime for a bowl's worth of oatmeal or a glass of clean water; in the fallen world, you would literally risk your very life or quite easily take someone else's for such priceless treasures.

    • @jimbass7867
      @jimbass7867 Před 9 lety +2

      ***** The problem is, "Who knows?" The disaster scenario is unpredictable and would likely be different in every jurisdiction in the country. People in a farming community would be more or less already self sufficient while the crowded city folk would be more desperate and less prepared. Each would react differently to a dramatic reduction of supplies.
      For example, I lived in a 40,000 citizen community that was about 200 miles remote from larger cities. There came a short term trucker's strike that affected grocery store deliveries for about five days. The second news came about the strike, there was a rush on the stores and everything was sold out in a few hours. I had never in my life in the USA had seen empty grocery store shelves. I went innocently to the store for routine evening shopping on my way home from work, having not heard of the strike. To my amazement the Safeway was devoid of anything but a few condiments and some dried fruit! At the time, we had no way of knowing how long the strike would last. I went home and took inventory of our food supplies on hand...we were practically as unprepared as could be. We could last a few days, but then it would be down to two old cans of asparagus and some canned milk we had held in the back of the cupboard for five years. It was a ghastly prospect. I actually felt fear. I did not know what to do. I then drove two hundred miles to the larger city and bought a pickup truck full of food. Thankfully, a few days later the strike ended and everything was back to normal. Ever since then, I have maintained a two month supply of "special" survival rations and have kept them fresh in rotation. But, the question stays in the back of my mind, - because I had that experience, my family is always prepared. Yet, I know the people around me are not in the slightest prepared. What happens if that hammer drops again and this time for real? I remember how desperate I felt back then and how strange it was to feel so insecure in this land of plenty. That's how desperate my neighbors are going to be. I'll certainly be outnumbered. In a week, when they smell beans cooking in my little pot, they are going to come a-knocking on my front door. And they will be hungry and highly pissed I did not invite them over for dinner. Really...what would you do.
      So, the reason I mention that story in the face of your question is that the time to build that "community of prepared people" is long before the disaster comes. Desperate people are not reliable nor predictable. If you had a good group you could count on who were equally prepared and had thought out ahead of time various potential disaster scenarios you would be miles in front of the shock wave. You would know them, have a solid plan, know they had survival supplies, and would probably group together for organized self protection from desperately hungry neighbors.
      Try to imagine yourself going to your unprepared neighbor or acquaintance in a post-disaster moment and saying, "Look, we're in a real tight here and we must stick together. Come to my well prepared shelter and be part of my little self-survival group. I have food, ammo, weapons, etc".
      Sure as hell, that guys is going to say, "Yes! I'm in!" simply because he knows no other solution and is keen to get into your raisins and chocolate bars and will hide behind you when the gangs come to take them out of his pockets over your dead body. See, you might be able to sort out who is reliable and who is not from a breathless band of Biker Gang dungeon escapees. But, unless you are prepared in such a luxurious way you could equip a small platoon, forget the cohesiveness and group understanding the post-A group is going to need. Given time, you might get them to toughen up enough to at least not be road kill soup for "Bad Man Jose and his Pussy Pirates"
      There simply is no time to explain to your untrained groupies why you shot the little lost family of four, or brought them into your enclave as slaves or as future food or what ever your understanding of survival planning is. People need time to grasp their sudden change from being able to dash down to the corner for a Big Mac to having to forage a whole day in a deadly hostile environment for three measly ounces of berries.
      Bunkers might do well to insulate you for a short time to let you get a grip on things and to form a semi-secure base of operations and keep a reliable supply depot.. But, very quickly, you have to have your finger on the pulse of the situation happening around you. Hiding out in utter isolation while the whole world turns into troglodyte hell is not the ideal way to achieve long term survival and participate in the re-creation of a secure society.

      The Maginot Line was made to defend France from possible invaders. They were made to protect against the outside and were very well developed and defended. There was a swamp that the Germans came through that the French thought you couldnt get a tank or soldiers through plus a huge forest, so they didn't defend very well and had like 100 troops patrolling it. The Maginot Line was flanked and wrekt from behind and didn't stand a chance. #theFrenchright? lol. I do agree though that bunkers aren't very good but what about NORAD? Or NATO? Just Sayin

      Gage Montoya Any survival scenario depends heavily on mobility, decisive action, unity of group in that everyone understands the goals, and strict discipline. Before I spent $185,000.00 on a bunker, I would spend the money in setting up a training unit for like minded persons and building up a "camp" or a "Platoon" of dedicated, self sufficient people. Only through group get-togethers and discussion, and pre-disaster "camp-outs" can you possibly form the cohesion such a group would need. You find out the strengths and weaknesses of the members before you have to count on them. You find out who the slackers are and who the real dependables are. You can form up a buying club, to purchase survival supplies in bulk, and establish well developed,, but secret, AO's in remote areas near your homes. These AO's have to be developed before you need them...they have to be near water supplies, in areas that may have wild game or near other known food resources, which can be in urban areas, such as grocery food distribution centers, packing and canning plants,, etc.. The AO has to be easy enough for everyone to get to in a pinch, and yet, be semi hidden, with a few well camouflaged escape routes. There needs to be several AO's for fall-back positions. You can even cache supplies - like fuel, food, tools, and even ammo. The main thing is, groups have more resources than individuals, and they can be unified in both purpose and doctrine. There would be no shock or disunity over actions the leader has to take in order to protect the AO or supplies....such things would have already been discussed and hashed out. The most important thing with a group is strength. No loners can possibly survive in such an environment when everyone is struggling for survival. My group did this little eye-opening experiment. We went to a completely undeveloped potential AO and no one brought any food...just water. We stayed for three days, ate nothing. All the while we kept notes and video of our experiences and how we changed...and man, did we ever change! We got to experience first hand how hunger made us vulnerable and affected our decisions and our discussions, even our determination to push on toward set goals.. At the evening of the third day, wives came in with gobs of food...and we had to eat slowly and with discipline. What an experience. It gives you insight not only about yourself, which is important...but, more importantly, about the people you may be encountering who are not prepared to survive. They would literally kill you for a bowl of oatmeal.
      To hell with bunkers...group up, learn, prepare, stay mobile, stay tough.

    • @dannelson8556
      @dannelson8556 Před 8 lety +7

      These prepper idiots better hope the the power never goes out permanently. If it does then you've only got about 90 days or so left to live before the nation's nuclear power plants start popping their tops.
      There will be no surviving an armageddon situation, because within 90 days of the power going out the entire northern hemisphere of the planet will be uninhabitable for a few 1000 years.
      Just in case you didn't know, you don't simply turn off a nuclear power plant, It's not the reactors it's the spent fuel cooling ponds that are the problem.
      There are over 187 Fukushima style spent fuel cooling ponds on american soil. These ponds need active cooling 24/7 365 days a year for oh say the next few 1000 years or so. And without power there won't be any active cooling.
      If the nations 187 spent fuel cooling ponds ever boil dry the fuel will catch fire and release apocalyptic levels of radioactive contamination which will rain down as fallout rendering the entire northern hemisphere of the planet uninhabitable for the next few 1000 years..
      To put this in perspective the average spent fuel cooling pond in America stores around 1800 metric tons of nuclear fuel that's no longer stable enough to maintain a controlled nuclear reaction. But don't let that fool you those fuel rods are still hot as hell and so dangerous that they must be stored under water and handled robotically.
      With no place to safely store the stuff they are forced to keep it on site in huge active cooling ponds which require not only power to operate the pumps but a trained staff of engineers to operate and maintain.
      Again to put this in perspective the Chernobyl nuclear accident released a mere 3 tons of its 180 metric ton nuclear fuel payload.. In other words only three tons burned or was ejected from the reactor.
      Now compared that to the roughly 337,000 metric tons being stored in US cooling ponds. Once again if those should boil dry and the rods catch fire there will be no surviving, It's what nuclear engineers call an extinction event.

    • @dannelson8556
      @dannelson8556 Před 8 lety

      ***** Make sure the power grid never fails !!
      And if it does make sure the duly elected government maintains control as they have emergency plans in place to insure the pumps stay running.
      So far they've done a good job, but this is one of those emergency scenarios where perfection is the only option.
      There was only incidence in this country at a commercial reactor that almost led to a spent fuel cooling pond fire and they cut that one a bit to close for comfort.
      Katrina forced one of the local Nuclear plants to SCRAM . the plant went on backup power but their diesel supply had become contaminated and they only had about 24 hours of fuel and about 24 hours of battery backup.
      The roads were flooded or destroyed and there was no way to get diesel to them.
      The pumps had been down for over 2 weeks and things were becoming dire. it was so dire that most of the crew had abandoned the plant by literally swimming away. Only a dedicated team remained behind, for all practical purposes they thought they were going to lose the plant which would have been catastrophic.
      In the end the army was able to use helicopters to fly in fuel for the backup generators. In my opinion they waited just a little bit too long for comfort.
      There's an incident report over at the NRC with more details, but its difficult to read as they try and do their best to whitewash it and make it not look as bad as it really was.
      You just need to read between the lines and look for keywords and phrases such as "catastrophic loss of backup power" or "Imminent danger of the unintentional release of catastrophic levels of high level contamination from cooling pond#? "
      The reports aren't easy to read unless you have some knowledge of what they are talking about.
