David is always fascinating and a great speaker
It's always a lot of fun to hang out with him. This was a great chat.
@@frasercaindavid thinks outside the box. He has an unassuming, disarmed attitude.
@@davemi00 Agree. Heard him on Lex Fridman a year or maybe more ago...have been hooked ever since!!!
My favorite astronomy CZcamsrs!
Believe it or not, I love listening to David when I'm in my semi truck delivering gravel 😂
I believe it. I love listening to Dr. Kipping when I'm following the flowboys & bellys down the road to my paving jobs.
Listening while planting tomatoes.
Try Art Bell
It’s all about going to sleep then starting the video later next sleep
Listening whilst “delivering moons that people are comfortable with”😊
Thank you, Dr. David Kipping and Fraser Cain, for taking time to talk about these interesting topics to the regular people. This especially helps young folks stimulate their minds! Great job!!!
I love how David is as much as scientific as philosophical!
Long time listener, first time commenter. What an amazing conversation! Honest, real, unfiltered and ultimately uplifting. Thanks guys!
Dr. Kipping is the latter day Carl Sagan, in my mind. I follow him and also Dr Becky on CZcams. So it is a bonus when you interview them.
Definitely.
How about an interview or rather a discussion moderated by Fraiser with both of them?
When I heard about the idea of a bunch of scientists in a room working on a subject, I thought that would be really interesting to witness.
Cool Worlds & David and Dr.Becky are awesome!
“its for the silent people who are like ‘yeah, I like what he’s got to say’” … lol, that’s me. Never comment, but deeply inspired. Thank you for all your wonderful work, Fraser.
When I started the interview and saw the video-length, I wondered when I'd click away, having my attention span exhausted and longing for the next topic/video -but here I am watching the patreon credits at the end - surprised the 1 1/2 hours have passed.
I'm also a long time subscriber to David's channel Cool Worlds and this interview of two great speakers manages to easily keep my attention with interesting topics and engaging conversation :)
Great show . Two of the best people in the business. Thank you.
Yes Dr. David Kipping !!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ❣💯
dibs!
Re 1:!4:00 ish
One of the joys I get from watching Cool Worlds has been the way David's developed his presentation skills. The subjects are always interesting, but he's gained a great method of delivery that helps build a (slightly, unless you watch a dozen times) better understanding of the topic
I don't follow many channels, but Fraser & David keep my appetite going
Thanks, both
That's such an amazing observation
Top class again, thank you Fraser.
After watching all the Cool Worlds Lab videos, I think Dr.Kipping should be able to whatever he wants with JWST!
Give Dr. David Kipping and his team, the time on #JWST to make the required observations. #NASA
Hi. I’m from the JWST team. As a result your CZcams comment, I have decided to grant your wish. David shall have his time in 2025. Thank you
@@farghAs another member of the JWST team, I second this. Thank you for your highly convincing CZcams comment.
His team just got his exomoon observation time on JWST!
@@tonywells6990 you’re welcome David! 😆
I always love a chance to hear a conversation with Dr. Kipping! Always fantastic! And you've queued up a return with that Dyson Sphere question! Nice!
Thank you so much for having David Kipping on. Even tough I don't regard the Fermi Paradox as a valid paradox as he seems to, he is so very balanced and thoughtful in his approach to the subject, that I would never pass up an opportunity to hear his take on that subject. Beyond that, whatever subject he (or one of his people) gives his attention to on his COOL WORLDS channel is similarly soberly explored and explained.
I really look forward to each posting.
He talked about the fermi paradox in depth on his channel you should look at it it might change your point of view ✌️
Dr David Kipping, the man with the coolest science channel on CZcams.
@frasercain your empassioned soliloquy around 1:08: finally convinced me to become a patreon! Yay to me! 😅 Been watching the channel since 2018 ish, when I was still just a budding postdoc. I was hooked from the very first video I watched, subscribed instantly, and I believe I haven't missed a single video ever since! Excellent work as always, please keep it up!
So dang good ty for this interview Frasier. Cool Worlds JMG and this channel are my personal favorites. I alway love when they gave a kind of cross over. That last question that you gave to David for his students was very interesting.
You're an animal! So many amazing interviews in such a short amount of time!
Yas!! Love when my favorite people collab!
I REALLY enjoyed this interview! Thank you for this excellent chat. David Kipping does some fascinating work, is a great speaker, and I love the balanced perspective he takes in science.
Great conversation guys. Thanks so much for sharing it.
Great interview with an awesome guest. I'm a huge fan of your channel as well as Cool Worlds. Thanks for this, thoroughly enjoyed watching👍
Been waiting for this!! Just started watching
I love it when the person interviewed has spent more than $10 on a microphone instead of using the one that comes built into their laptop.
Yeah, it's such a joy to interview someone like David who's got the perfect setup.
I really enjoyed the conversation, I follow both you and Dr. Kipping and enjoy both of your channels a lot!
As soon as David Kipping / Cool worlds releases a new video I drop everything I'm doing and is glued to the laptop. Tnx for this interview 🙂
WOW! What a great collaboration. Can't wait for next one.
I really loved this conversation, especially around the absence of anything indicating biosignatures
Love this complete and lengthy interview.
Superb Interview! One of my favourites! Thank you.
Great interview!!!!
Thanks Fraser
Kipping the Rupert Everett of Astronomy talking about his Moonies.
The podcast I never expected to listen to but I absolutely loved watching every bit. I have been a long CW watcher and the fascinating ideas that Dr. Kipping shares. Thanks Fraser❤
No hate comments here. Always appreciate the honest convos with both David in Cool Worlds and Fraser in his journalism stories.
Great interview. Much appreciated.
🤘😎🤘
Two of my absolute favorite CZcamsrs…what an outstanding video. Well done!!
Thanks a lot, I hope you enjoyed our conversation.
That was a great interview. I enjoyed it
Hell of an interview I knew we were in for a treat! We all did lol. Thank you brother and ty David!
a great channel.
You cover so many untouched topics. TY
Very interesting! Thanks so much Fraser, keep it coming please.
Another great show! Thank you
Fascinating conversation thank you
Guys you’re great educators, I can add Brian Green to the group. Never give up teaching as there is not enough out there. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
Great guest, i always like listening to Dr Kipping.. I have no scientific background but have become fascinated in my later life with the exploration of our universe etc and podcasts like this are a joy to me so thank u.. and no ads in the middle of the conversation will definitely bring me back to your channel
Fantastic collaboration, my two favourite spacetubers.
brilliant interview thank you both
Glad you enjoyed it.
❤ I'm so glad I've watched this video.
Fascinating and wide-ranging. The section on networking is relevant to many fields including my own.
Great conversation.
Great interview
These are the videos I love… so interesting just keep doing this for you. I will keep watching
The part about science communicating philosophy and the workings of academia was very interesting as was the whole discussion.
Thank you both for sharing your love of science and your gifts in imparting knowledge to the world!
I think too many people look only at the surface of science and research, expecting all the answers to be revealed in a monolithic unchanging chunk that is fully refined, not understanding that new data can present better, more complete understanding at any time. People are creatures of habit; it is easier to believe something and hold on to that than to flex their minds and incorporate new ideas. Thanks for broadening our minds and making us think.
You're both amazing.
I'll be enjoying this after I get off work. Can't wait to hear what this is about ☺️
While I'm sure you are just being humble....let me speak on behalf of your fans when I say you are amongst the best at what you do. And we all appreciate it Mr. Cain. Great episode.
For sure.
1:02:00 I love this line of thought. We gotta call it the Kipping Conjecture
How am I just seeing this! It's like my two favorites...stitched!
These interviews are excellent
Love Dr.K. his channel is great. Let him use any and all resources he asked for...
Nice interview.
Have you ever interviewed Brian Cox? You should try to!
nice upload, I love both these guys.
Two of my favorite CZcamsrs in one video? I’m getting a snack and getting comfortable
I love that we used to have a workable alternative to GPS that was very robust. But it cost money to run so with GPS being the newer better thing, it was shut down. Loran C. And E Loran. Maybe not as accurate but better than having no GPS.
That was one of my ultimate favourite interviews of all time. You have only done one bad interview regarding constant background noise that would not stop of the person who you were interviewing but so what because it is literally the only one I have ever seen it was just really hard to focus on because all your other interviews are always good. Some of your interviews are absolutely super exciting but this one is just one of the ultimate all-time BEST interviews you ever done. I really loved this interview.
Another awesome interview! Love! Love! Love! Love Science!
Fraser - This is the level of adult discussion I expect from this channel.
Great video!
Nice to see David :)
haha i was going to smack you around for having a thumbnail of kipping, but it's an interview of him. i enjoy both your channels
Mr. Kipping has got a real gift of gab,
thank you Fraser
Great talk gentlemen, thank you both. Good luck w moon hunt prof K. An interstellar Bonanza inbound. 🤙🏼
Fantastic video.
Gonna smash this out after gym tonight!
Cool worlds and fraser!
Enjoy, it's a good one.
Two of my favorites together. My lucky day.
Every time I hear Dr. Kipping talk, he makes me feel like I need to stop procrastinating after finishing my MSc. in Astrophysics and pursue the PhD.
As usual, great interview Fraser 😃
Just the other day i was musing about how much we could discover about our place in the universe if we knew more about exo moons. I would have only had those thoughts because of the work david has done, great guy and i really appreciate him! For example finding earth moon analogues would be HUGE for determining if a “rare earth” idea is reasonable or not.
“We had to deliver moons that people were comfortable with”🎉
I do like what you've got to say Fraser... great work
Two fellows that seem happy to go along with the necessary changes that the Social Engineers want to implement.
Male - 60%
Female - 40%
The section around 53:00 to 55:00 is, in my opinion, kind of adjacent to the anthropic principle: If the circumstances of the universe were such that we humans couldn't exist, we wouldn't be here to ask these questions.
Great talk. Question for Dr. Kipping: could an Earth sized exo-moon orbiting a Jupiter like gas giant in the habitable zone of a red dwarf system be protected from red dwarf flares? In that could the parent planet be capable of protecting its moon from the violent storms of the red dwarf?
I'd like to hear his answer to this question as well! My opinion is yes, with the provision that the moon itself has a magnetic field as well to protect it from the Van Allen radiation belts of its host.
It was interesting to hear the discussion of how to get your research you are interested in when the funding is limited or how to follow your passion.... I am past the point of career prospects but it should be good advice to not "burn ones bridges"... to maintain a professional network.... never to leave a bad taste in your associates mouth (mind)... Im not saying this well. But one cannot ever discount your potential of someone in your network leading to YOUR next step... your next job.... (this actually happened to me when I wasnt looking)... keep an open mind.
I am a simple man. I see Doctor Kipping and I click.
the great Dr. Kipping
FINALLY my favourite fellow Kenadian science reporter -not attached to the CBC- , intertwines with mon héros de Cool Worlds, à l'autre bout de la terre et des phrases.
he is your best guest, I think
Depending on the types of gas in the atmosphere ,does it effect the oblateness of planets differently ? Any detectable difference ?
Great guy, great channel everyone should follow cool worlds.
57:00 what about superstructures like the bog ring or big arc. What if thats what late stage galactic civilization looks like?
Hi Fraser, a question, wouldn't it be better to send a peteri dish to Mars? It would be able to give us results for presence of life in weeks?
What archive are they referring too?
Knowing whether ringed planets are common is important so we'll know how much to feature Saturn on our travel posters and brochures. Moons too, of course. I've wondered if all the UFOs, I mean UAPs have been careless tourists checking out our spectacularly odd system.
David's cool worlds is such a great channel. It's a shame that his team was rejected so many times for time on telescopes because he's one of the most interesting researcher at the edge of science.
Thank you Fraser & David !
Continue to follow your curiosity !
I am still bothered by a question regarding the research:
I understand that watching the expected transits with JWST is going to be the best, but it is politically controversial. Couldn't a ground based telescopes observation of the transit extract at least part of the interesting data?
Very interesting conversation and I really hope he gets the telescope time and finds a few moons. They really should be there because if they are not then something in our solar system is really special and we don't like to think that we are special.
Suggested other person to interview: Chris Lintott, co-presenter of The Sky at Night and I believe Dr Becky's PhD-supervisor. The Sky at Night has been popularizing astronomy since 1957.
Another scientist and youtuber could be Clara Nellist, she is a particle physicist at CERN, has 8k subscribers and deserves more.
50 cm/s radial velocity is our current detection limit I believe, 9 cm/s I think is required to find a true Earth analogue.
There are a lot of egos out there in the field of space research just like in the historicity of Jesus debate so it doesn't surprise me that other researchers would attempt to debunk Kipping's work without discussing their conclusions with him. This type of thing seems to be a recent phenomenon in the science world but is not surprising considering the direction society has been going.
