JURASSIC PARK: Dinosaur Canon and Lore (2 Hours)

  • Jurassic Park has had a lot of canon and lore over the years and I’ve done comprehensive videos on Isla Nublar, Sorna and apocryphal unmade ideas. Now I go over dinosaur information both paleontology based and InGen clones from the movies. The history of Dinos like Velociraptor Antirrhopus, T-Rex, Spinosaurus, Brachiosaurus and more are all here in a video I had a lot of fun editing together. I hope you all enjoy!

I’ve never really understood why the paleontology community dislikes Jurassic Park, when JP is responsible for creating an entire generation of paleontologists

Not all of them hate it. I know a few paleontologists that still love Jurassic Park. But there are people that genuinely dislike it yeah

Way I see it is that the paleo community is a bunch of snobs while the Jurassic Park community just likes dinosaurs because they're cool.
It's kinda the same thing with Halloween fans and Friday the 13th fans. Halloween fans are super uptight and act like Michael Myers is peak horror and that it's basically art. And then you got the Friday the 13th fans who just like watching Jason Voorhees go on a rampage. At the end of the day they're both just masked killers doing their thing and people like watching it. Same with Jurassic Park and paleo nerds, at the end of the day they both just love dinosaurs, only one side tries to feel superior over the other.

Ive always been a fan of the theory that the dinosaurs on isla sorna are evolving back into their more realistic forms. I never knew it was theorized all the way back during the JP 2 days. Furthermore, it was extremly eye-opening watching your video explaining the plot/framework for jp 2, adressing the JP3 raptors. I honestly wish there was a film briding the gap between JP3 and JW. That would have helped JP3 have an impact on the series. Its cool to pook at the quills on the JP3 raptor and think of how the series could have gone.

59:21 - 59:46 My head-canon is this - I don't see how there is any way of knowing what DNA you have until you clone it, so they must have cloned at least one of every prehistoric animal to then know what DNA they had found. So they must have cloned that croc. If you extract preserved blood from a mosquito, what reference points do you have to know what the DNA is from? Then there's considering the DNA is incomplete, who is to say that, once the gaps are filled with all sorts of other animals DNA, the animal that emerges was actually a specific dinosaur? So much has changed that, what was once originally DNA from one animal, once cloned, the resulting animal more resembles a different one than the original. Genetics is absolutely mind-blowingly complex.
I think they cloned the Croc.

None often known is that just before Jurassic Park started filming a new dinosaur was found in the Badlands of the US and it was called Utah Raptor it was a right size overly large to be the new quote Unquote velociraptor Or the for the movie. jack Horner was the discoverer and he instantly told Spielberg Spielberg about it The Spielberg was like yes that's the size I wanted since it was still a quote Unquote Raptor the figure that gets stretched the truth by calling it a lasso Raptor which is about four or five times the size of a velociraptor in real life. so that's how we get the huge Utah Raptors and remember Jurassic world they were juveniles they were still like yearlings Haven't grown up from hatchlings.

They're _so_ old that vertebrates had barely been on land (390 mya) for 100 million years before they appeared

The way I understand it is that Jurassic Park’s dinosaurs were never truly the accurate representation of the real dinosaurs throughout history. They were hybrids due to them having frog and many other modern creature’s DNA. So while it’s interesting to discuss the differences and similarities of these Dinos they were never supposed to be 100% accurate I mean in lost world novel you have camouflaging Carnosauruses. Which I don’t believe to be supported anywhere. And of course the whole “vision based on movement” thing for Rexy. I think this is fine due to these dinosaurs again being like Frankenstein’s monster something that previously existed but a now twisted stitched together version. Which adds to the horror of it, like if these aren’t the real deal and yet they are still so dangerous imagine how much worse the real deal would be!
