Nice to see you using a Sportsman's Grill! We have one we have used for 30 years and a brand new one in the box in case the old one gives out. We also have a Lodge fryer with 2 inch sides that fits on the grill the same way your griddle does, or right on the cooker if you take off the grill. It belonged to my Dad and it is more than fifty years old. A great chicken fryer. If not grilling, you can do anything you can do on a two burner stove such as grits and a pot of coffee. When they are ready, you can set them aside and cook sausage in one skillet and eggs in another. You can use firewood instead of charcoal if you want. For a quick fire you can break cabbage palm stalks into pieces if you aren't worried about getting your skillet sooty.

American Sports Academy (if you have one in your area) has aluminum domed lids with handles on the top that exactly fit the size and rounded ends of the Sportsman grill. They are less than $10 and work great for covering food as you did with your hash browns. I use them when I'm doing really thick chops or steaks. They capture the heat and smoke and create an oven effect. I put charcoal on one side to sear the meat and then move the meat to the cooler side and finish it under the dome. Keeps the meat much more moist and still have nice sear on the outside. You will use less charcoal as well. I almost never cook without them. The handles will get hot so you need to have a towel, tongs, or hot pad when you lift them off. I use the small Orca silicone finger hot pads. They work great for lifting the cast iron grill off too if you need to. The Sportsman really works well on all kinds of meats / vegetables.

Good morning, just finished cooking bacon and egg on my LSG about an hour ago and remembered your video. Your video inspired me to try something else as I don't have one of those griddles. I found an old 13x9 cast iron pan that did the trick, as it fit as good as the normal top grill. As everything was not perfectly level, the front right corner was perfect for doing sunny side up eggs. When the last few pieces of bacon were half done, I made a barrier of bacon to hold in the eggs. Worked quite well! Now if I can just find my Lodge griddle...

Hi Mr. B, what a lovely and hearty breakfast you made for yourself and Mrs B. I love the idea of the steak and eggs combo. I usually love going to IHOP for breakfast and they also have steak and eggs or steak with a nice hearty ham slice for breakfast. Breakfast and brunch is my favorite. I think your making shish kebabs on the grill with veggies and beef or lamb cubes would be a terrific idea for a dinner. You could marinate the meat in teriyaki, soy sauce and garlic before hand that would make the meat really special and delicious. Sending you my warmest regards. I love your channel-you always have such interesting video's. Thank you for being you, Mr. B.

Had one, sold it after one campout. Design errors abound. Heats onle from bottom, no lid so wind, rain, cold affect the cooking. Takes alot of charcoal to get to cooking heat, long cooldown. Small funny shaped cooking surface. Returned to my Weber 14” portable kettle style BBQ, added a 9” round Lodge griddle. Perfect with halfthe charcoal. None of the issues

That's a great little grill. It's pretty versatile when you can throw the griddle on there too! I have been thinking of getting one of them for a while. I have a big weber kettle, but you have to use a ton of charcoal just to cook a steak. When I first saw that little lodge grill it made me think of the grills that they have in the state parks when you camp. I always thought of putting one of those on my back deck, but that little lodge would actually be better I think. It also doubles as a place to cook with your dutch oven. I think it would be cool to do some big fat cheeseburgers on there. To mix it up a little, you could make bison burgers. I have never had bison but I have thought about trying it for a while. Can you even get that down there? I don't know how common it is but there is a bison farm right at the edge of my town.

I have cooked everything on mine. Chicken, steak, fajitas, burgers and even pizza (made on pitas). You control the heat by how much charcoal you put in and adjust the damper door. You can't shut it down the heat completely but you can push the charcoals to one side or the other. A single layer of briquettes should do the job just fine.

Someone mentioned the oval cast iron lodge pot for cooking fish that "supposedly" goes with that Sportsman's Grill. My cousin (a wonderful Cajun Cook) has one of those pots, but she uses them for étouffée's, Jambalayas and stuff like that. Everything she cooks tastes FANTASTIC., but she has a propane fire she cooks over. I have never seen the sportsman's grill before you showed it, but when one of your views wrote that it was meant to be used with that big oval cast iron pot, it got my attention. I would love to see what dishes you can come up with if you have access to that big beautiful oval pot.

I can't find the Lodge, but the Bayou Classic Oval fryer is up on the store now.

Lodge no longer makes the fish fryer pan. There are two different ones out there 3060, 4 inches deep and the 3052, two inches deep. That is what the notches on the grill were designed for. Love the griddle idea...

I store mine in a plastic tool box, fits barely and can be sealed up and carried easily.

Pancakes, corn cakes, montecristo sandwich, quesadillas, crab/fish cakes, any kind of schnitzel, breakfast sausage, pineapple, pork cracklings, chocolate chip and/or oatmeal cookies... How about a green relish made with grilled onions and green tomatoes and whatever else... Oh man, I gotta slow down.
