Burnout 3: Takedown was amazing when it released all the way back in September 2004. Does it hold up now? I hope you enjoy this 2024 review. Thanks for watching!
Still holds up to this day, been playing it at 4x resolution with various widescreen patches and 60fps crash mode on my Steam Deck. It looks amazing and barely aged a day.
Man I’ve gotta get a steam deck or ROG Ally! I’ve heard so many great things about them. Having a whole library of awesome ps2 games to play in bed would be awesome! Thanks for watching!
On PCSX2 you don't even need any widescreen patches, the game supports native widescreen! One of the few to do so. Just need to turn off fast boot and set 16:9 in the bios.
This game is still age very well and it's my childhood game too. Great sense of speed, great graphics and great soundtrack (Lazy generation, best theme song for this game). Probably the best Burnout game besides Burnout Revenge and Paradise. Only time will tell if we can get a new Burnout game nowadays.
It's mad how much detail is in damaged cars, today's games look like the cars barely get wrecked at all! Might need to have a sneaky revist to the burnout series and also finally get around to playing burnout paradise!
Fantastic review brother. I needed convincing to emulate/ download on Steam, you gave me the motivation and reduced my sense of anxiety of committing time and money towards a game. Originally I wanted NFS Rivals/ Hot Pursuit, until I stumbled upon your review. I have already played 'Most Wanted'. But I didn't want to play the same style again.
What were you going to download off steam? NFS rivals and Hot Pursuit are still different from most wanted, so if you got one of those it would still be awesome! But burnout 3 is awesome too
Also yes, this game emulates perfect now. I also think if you try and 100% this game and aren't super sweaty about it, you can easily spend 30 hours playing this on a single playthrough 100%. Super worth it for $12 AUD. Great review.
I keep a CRT hooked up and it always ends up being used to play this. Burnout 3 is one of the greatest games ever made and is as fun today as it was 20 years ago.
@@colbyboucher6391 The track quantity is quite a bit less than B3, and the lack of a Single Race mode is tragic (although theres an emulator cheat to fix this)
This is such a great game, I still have my Xbox 360, and I downloaded the digital copy of the original xbox version for backward compatibility on the Xbox 360 console.
YES YES and HELL YES Me and my brother still talk about Burnout 3. We played and finished the Single Player with all GOLD Medals, Now we are in our early 40s
This reminds me of a game I used to play on N64 emulator called Hot Wheels Turbo Racing but with graphics that look more like GTA. Would be cool to see you do a review and comparison in a future video, HWTR was from 1999 so would be interesting to see how it holds up and if there's a noticeable jump in game quality in the five years between them. I'm not super familiar with the range of racing games available so the Hot Wheels one is probably just another branding reskin of existing games of the time, but it was still pretty fun to play in the late 00s/early 10s so I'm curious how it compares to whats out there :)
ive been playing retro games again since release of series x, dev mode is so nice to emulate ps2 ngc wii and more, got a 3tb hdd loaded up all with retro stuff
Grew up with this game (started playing at 4) and it is an absolute favourite! Recently went back and got 100% on it for the first time ever. Also off-topic, what song is used in this video? (1:48)
@@RetroRangerReviews88 Oh agreed. Burning laps were my nemesis, always was just a few seconds off! That and getting 2 of x vehicle in a race for the trophies (bus took me so long). Also music channel when? On the real I loved the music! Spent some time trying to find it to no avail haha
@@casualcadaver believe it or not, I recently tried ssx for the first time EVER. I featured it in another video but I’ll definitely do a review on it 🙂 Thanks for watching!
I played for the first time recently, I was expecting a lot considering that people praise this game so much. I was disappointed. The game wants to make you go fast, but the streets are constantly full of traffic. As the cars get fasters, it gets harder and harder not to crash all the time. It seems like non sensical design to me.
I mean... that's part of what makes it fun, learning to not crash all the time? You could play Revenge instead though, in Revenge only big vehicles like moving trucks make you crash, you actually knock most cars out of the way.
I hate how ps2 held this gen back with its ugly polygons this should of been ported down from Gamecube and Xbox but nooo it gets based off the weaker hardware piecofshi2
Yeah, the industry kinda suffered from the PS2's success. Logically it should have beem the one getting ports but it was so dominant that it wasn't a sane decision to make.
PCSX2 is in an unfortunate position where a lot of games were made for the PS2 and only got cruddy ports on GC (if they did at all), but PCSX2 has crazy input lag compared to Dolphin. Which is particularly bad for a game like this.
The greatest racing game of all time
If it isn’t, it’s pretty darn close!!!

I've bought it for my 360, where the emulation is surprisingly solid (it's not always that way). And yes, it's every bit as good as you described it

When I'm president, giving Burnout 3 a 9 out of 10 in gameplay will result in prison time.

Burnout 3, Gran Turismo 4 and Midnight Club 3. The ultimate triforce of PS2 racing games.
I could be happy with just those 3 games, plus NFS Underground 2!
I can't ever forget that this game run in pure 60 FPS in the PlayStation 2
Absolutely awesome!
I recently fired up PS2 & played this game for a little bit. Honestly, the gameplay is so much fun, that I wanted to play more of this game.
It holds up so well!
*i never played 3 but Burnout Revenge changed how I view racing games* 👍
