    Fun fact: The woman in the opening movie for Burnout Revenge is Jules De Jongh who would go on to do the same introductory voice for Burnout Paradise, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted 2012.
    She also did the voice for Faith from the Mirrors Edge series and Cora Harper in Mass Effect Andromeda.

    • @lordeilluminati
      @lordeilluminati Před 3 lety +30

      Agree. I didnt like Crash mode as a kid, but it grew up on me. Played all stages on Revenge, then tried to do the same on Takedown and I hated the pick ups because it forces you to do only one thing: go after them to rack multipliers. On Revenge there is optimal ways to finish stages, but it is way more open ended and you can get quite creative on doing crashes.

    • @GodOfOrphans
      @GodOfOrphans Před 3 lety +4

      I respectfully yet vehemently disagree. They ruined the crash mode in Revenge when it was easily the most fun part of Burnout 3, it feels much more random as to whether or not one will hit the quota for the gold medal due to the vehicles having awful controls in the mode, the traffic AI feels much more random and unpredictable, there's wind resistance to worry about on top of everything else, several junctions require a traffic check trick shot to hit the required amount and the physics for traffic checking isn't anywhere near precise enough to pull off consistently and that's still on top of doing everything else right, there's no powerups or powerdowns to aim for and avoid respectively which is just less fun IMO, and worst of all they made crashbreakers into a button masher and an insanely hard one at that, I am a button mashing GOD I've beaten every Test Your Might challenge in Mortal Kombat and Injustice perfectly, I've beaten Dark Gaia in Sonic Unleashed, and even bested the legendarily infamous Canary Mary in Banjo Tooie, and I still struggle filling the crashbreaker meter in Burnout Revenge to the point where I have hurt my getting the 5 stars in certain junctions it is that hard especially counting retries! Edit: for got to mention how random the timer seems to be, sometimes it will start counting down almost immediately and other tries it takes its time. I know that it's supposed to be based on if there's enough of a lull in the carnage but it was never consistent on what exactly constitutes a sufficient lull even doing the same thing in the same same junction would have the timer pop up at different intervals for no apparent reason and I've had countless would be successful attempts ruined because the timer decides that even though there's plenty of carnage still going on to time me out early, just completely inconsistent and infuriating! Edit 2: added some commas that where missing.

    • @GodOfOrphans
      @GodOfOrphans Před 3 lety +1

      @gremlinstdm Most of the problems I listed are most noticeable as a completionist, going for perfects in every event (which I recently Perfected the game last December btw True Elite baby!) if someone just goes for the bronze or only perfects the easy ones they might not notice or care as much, as the problems don't interfere with getting bronze or even silver that much it's only really when going for the gold that it becomes insufferable. (I still have no idea how anyone can defend button mashing for crashbreakers though, I hated that change with a burning passion even before I became a completionist, it's just not fun even without how much harder it makes certain junctions. I can see how it wouldn't be a dealbreaker but I don't understand how anyone could prefer it.) So if you're also a completionist at least regarding Burnout Revenge that might explain why we think alike.

      I used to like Revenge better but recently, I went back to both Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge on PCSX2 with amazing enhancements (like no blur, widescreen patch, updated textures).
      I think I've come to like Burnout 3 better after spending time with them.
      Revenge has the problem that a lot of games of that "Early 360" era had - They made the color palette too gritty and industrial like in a few stages. Angel Valley, Eternal City, and Motor City are all Yellow as fuck, and I personally don't like that. The 360 version takes it even further and adds too much bloom and motion blur.
      Burnout 3 just simply has a much more beautiful, balanced color palette (more in line with other beautiful games like Outrun 2 or Daytona USA) and more tracks. In Revenge it feels like you get through the tracks too quickly and then it feels like a lack of variety.
      At the end of the day though, they are both fantastic games and I still love Burnout Revenge very much. I'm just nitpicking on minor things that most casual players won't even notice. It's like comparing a 9/10 to a 10/10 game.

      Finished Carbon again right now and I am sorry, I coudnt get into. I like how it carries over a lot of things from Most Wanted, but on Carbon everything is under used. Pursuits are a bit better, but they only annoy the player after races, dont have any objectives. The world is very pretty, but it is useless to explore because you will get into pursuits that dont mean anything and I loathe to death the "crew" mechanic, they love to steal wins from the player. I like the added customization options and the canyon races though (especially because they dont have teammates in there, shame that it has so few canyon races)

    that traffic check was actually really clever way to "balance" one complaint i had on takedown; thanks to motion blur, traffic cars are harder to see from behind than from oncoming traffic headlights. That, coupled with the fact that driving oncoming lane fills your boost, makes driving oncoming lane "op" and atleast in the endgame timeattacks you are practically forced to drive oncoming lane if you want gold, no choice there. So i'm glad they found a solution that included more airborne cars :)

      Agree but I kinda didnt liked Blur unfortunately. What bothers me the most about it is the drift mechanic, no matter how much I leveled up, used different cars and such and I managed to get wrong when trying to go to tight corners. Split Second does have a weird drift system but I find it consistent on what car you choose, so it is a matter of time and practice to learn to handle well. I am sad because I think Blur is very cool in making the "kart racing" mechanic more strategic than on other games of the genre, but drifting ruined the game for me. Even Metropolis Street Racer is easier to do tight corners than Blur in my opinion

    The most amazing thing for me is the fact, that Burnout 3 had fully original soundtrack, like the Burnout 2 and 1, but it got scrapped in favor of the licensed tracks. However, all of the unused tracks came back in Burnout: Paradise.
    Makes me wonder what else got scrapped in those games.

    the 360 and PS2/Xbox versions have slightly different car physics. it's easier to take opponents down on the latter. on the 360 they feel a lot more like tanks.
    also the crash mode differs in the PS2/Xbox versions in the way you launch the car. On the 360, it just plays out like B3's crash mode, but on PS2/Xbox you could set the "power" of your launch, yknow, like a golf game.

    Besides the general improvements there was one important thing the 360 version of Revenge did over the PS2/XBox version:
    Crash mode in the 6th gen had a meter at the start that was taken straight from golf games. If you flubbed it you had a poorer start that could affect your goals. 360 version just made you perfect start every time.

      In case you have any difficulty with the road rages, on the 360 version, you could do a glitch where if you go into a 2 player crash battle and quit out when it starts, you can select the crash vehicles for the races. Due to their heavyweights, you'll bulldoze opponents with the only issue of speed.

    One thing I think was missed in this review was the location challenges. He said he skipped them and yet that's a part of the game where all the unique cars are earned (and not just cars that are upgraded versions within the 3 tiers of performance). I didn't notice this myself in my revisit to this game a few years ago as I too was just focusing on 5 stars on every event.

    This along with 3 are the best in the franchise for me. The thing I love about Revenge are the astetic of the cars (The Factory R, Criterion M-Type, Works M-Type, Prototype R (Later known as the Watson V12) and the Custom M-Type being my top five.) and the sense of challenge. Sure takedowns are harder but they're so rewarding once you get it right.

    Agree on almost everything apart from crashing being better on Takedown. The graphics and added explosions are one thing but I didn't like scrambling for the multipliers on Takedown. In revenge it's simply about destroying everything possible on the zone and cleverly positioning yourself to do so. Glad we finally got this review though, do Paradise next!

    I love Revenge and have done a couple playthroughs on youtube, but I really adore Burnout 3 with its locations, style and above all else, the crash mode. I prefer Burnout 3's crash mode to Revenge, mostly for the pick-ups and the heavyweight vehicle (fire truck, bus, etc) crash breakers which are huge. You don't really have many heavyweights in Revenge other than the mobile crasher truck.
    As for the main menu system in Revenge, the 360's menu and music is great but I prefer the look and style of the PS2 version (never owned original Xbox version) and I liked the Break on Through remix song that played.
    I am one of those who liked hearing Stryker's comments during events, but it's not really needed for Revenge. He suits the Burnout 3 world more I think. It would've been nice to hear from him again though.

    I just bought this game for the first time when you put this video out and I love it. I was a freshman in high school in 2006 when the game was released and it's nice to listen to the soundtrack (which has no business being this good) and enjoy the horrible brown ENB preset and just crash cars. It's fun to play when you're drunk because not much skill is involved until higher rankings. super fun if you appreciate older games
