Calling captive whales ambassadors is like if colonialists called human slaves diplomats or historians. These smart animals need to be freed. The sanctuary needs to happen. I wish we had a way to help it happen

It's actually brutal. An animal that has such a strong need for social contact is born into a swimming pool in which several members of the same species swim, all of whom actually have the same needs, but they cannot give each other this bond. Nothing connects these animals except captivity. And then the only two animals that have this connection (namely mother and child) are separated. The orcas that were born in nature at least have the memory of their own family, they have at least learned culture and language. (Although that's a different kind of cruelty when the animals remember.) But what about orcas that were born in captivity? What language and culture do they actually learn when they live with several orcas from different cultures? It can only be a kind of mixed language. If these animals were released into the wild then they would be the only representatives of their species with this hybrid language and hybrid culture....!?

What happens when orcas of different pods find each other in the ocean? They seem sometimes smarter than humans, almost like the humans of the oceans, but without the needless cruelty.

Please please please build her a replica tank and release her to sea pen from there. Attach the new tank to the sea pen. The transition from tank to sea should be as gradual as possible. Start her new tank with her current water. Yeh all that water gets transported with her dolphin buddy. IMO anyway. This is a very complex challenge 4 hooman. Probably more expensive than estimated as well.

That is very similar to the setup they have in Iceland for the beluga sanctuary. They can swim in and out from the “tank” to the sea pen area and do vet care within the tank section.
