Oh my gosh, I didn't realise that you'd released a video about the Kibbe questions! I would like to see more videos like these! The Kibbe quiz can be confusing sometimes, and it's a bit difficult to see if someone has an A answer or B answer sometimes.
This clears up a lot for me. It makes self analysis much easier. Thank you. Since your explanation was so illuminating, I think it would be great if you did the same thing for the other questions.
👃🏻👃🏼👃🏽👃🏾👃🏿👃 I would love for you to do another video break down & explanation on noses and angularity. I don't understand what makes a nose angular, sharp, soft or round? How can you tell? I really thought Aly Art's nose was round, because it looks soft and rounded to me, especially her nostrils and the rounded tip, but in one of her videos she said her nose is sharp!! (she said it's sharp because the bottom of her nose is flat). That made me really confused, and now I don't know what to think, and I don't know if mine or anyones noses are sharp or round! PLEASE HELP!! 👃🏻👃🏼👃🏽👃🏾👃🏿👃
Look at the nose bridge, is it long = sharp, is it curvy/rounded = soft, is it narrow = dramatic/sharp, or is it wide = soft, yin feature? What about the tip of the nose, is it circular or triangular?
Also, could you please make a video explaining the difference between the Kibbie types of waist. And a video on a Dramatic Classic Body Type. Maybe in a way where you type one of a Dramatic Classic ladies (just like the ones you did with Charlize Theron, Selena Gomez, Lilly Cole). It really helps me understand, what features girls of a certain type have. (By the way, I love the video on the subject "Do Gamines look more fun than Classics?") Thank you for what you're doing!
Hi, I know it is not fully about what you request but have you seen Merriam's video Kibbe for African descent? She talks a little bit about Jada Pinkett there who is a dramatic classic, might be helpful to you in the meantime.
Fabulous, thank you. I have been hovering between Dramatic and Dramatic Classic. Your video has sealed it for me. Have a very small head in relation to my body. It all now makes complete sense. Thank you, thank you.
I think the way pics are taken are also confusing us. Photographers know exactly how to take pics to make a person look taller, petite etc. and the styling plays a big role. Most of the celebrities are trying to look taller to fit the beauty standards. And also the only way to compare the pics is them being next to each other, because the pics are taken differently. This video is really helpful don't get me wrong, but the problem is how the pics are taken lol
But it's obvious that the pictures are taken from around the same angle though. And I think having people standing side by side just makes for a biased observation. I think the best example is the picture of Queen Latifa and Jayda in one picture. They look like they're about the same height from the picture. Now I know their distance from the camera could affect how people might perceive them, but if you just look at even their shoulder and head proportions, you'll see immediately how Jada's head is smaller than her torso whereas Queen Latifa's head is roughly evenly proportioned to her shoulders and body hence they look like they're about the same height in the picture.
Yes and absolutely the clothing. A good example is the girl in the green dress was wearing something that made her legs look shorter/waist bigger whereas Megan Fox was wearing something tight that stopped at the calves making her look very tall.
@@moontears3887 I noticed many of them take them at a low angle looking up. Which does make them look taller but you're right, I can definitely tell they're ALL taken at this similar angle. With that being said, what they wear makes the biggest difference of all in my opinion. Like Megan was wearing a form fitting dress that ended at the calves making her look taller whereas the lady in green's dress was poofed at the waist causing her to look larger with shorter legs. Just my opinion though ☺️
I am so so happy you made this video, thank you so very much! This was the most confusing question on the Kibbe test for me, and I haven't been able to figure it out until now! I was so confused because I'm very short, 5'1", but I don't have a really big head. The wording is so confusing because I think I look slightly taller than what I am, but at the same time it's very obvious to everyone that I am very short! Now with your help and breakdown of this question I can finally feel at ease that my answer is C: my head is in even proportion to my body! Hallelujah! 🙌🏼
I'm still confused by this question, because I feel like so much of it depends on individual perception. In my opinion, Lucy Liu and Megan Fox look their real height, not any taller, when I look at their candid, barefoot photos and not stylized. Also, as an Asian, I don't consider Lucy Liu to have a Dramatic body type. When I look at her body, I think it looks fleshy and soft especially when she first started acting. I'm still sooo confused...
I'd like an even more quantified approach, as in measure your head top to bottom in the mirror, divide your height by your head height, and if your number is below, say 7.5 then you have a shorter line, vs over 7.5 you have a longer vertical line. My number is 8.6, I'm almost 5'5", and my head is 8.25" per my measurements. I'm not tall, but I look tall.
The lady in the green looks tall enough to me cause I'm kinda used to seeing people of such body structure beling tall When compared to Meghan in a second collage, I was able to see what you exact point was
This makes so much more sense, because if you are tall and look tall, people will guess your height or maybe even shorter if there is nothing that can give you a sense of proportion in a picture for example which would be answer C or even D but the reason you look your height (tall in this case) is because the vertical line is A or B when standing up. As a SD i have gotten comments about looking very tall at a distance or next to things like tables and shorter when closer as well as me being way taller when standing up compared to what a person guessed when I was sitting down, most however guess my height correctly.
SEE I WAS RIGHT!! My comment on your other video was pretty bang on and I haven't even seen this video before. My head/face looks significantly smaller than even my shoulders and the rest of my body so my vertical line is very yang. Thank you for confirming this for me. I think I'm starting to get a hang of this body typing. I thing the head and the shoulders usually gives people's body types significantly. For instance, I know my mom has very yin elements due to her head and shoulder proportions (her shoulders looks very dainty).
This is so helpful! people always guess I'm taller than I am because I always wear heels, but my head is massive. lol, I always stand in the back for photos because of it. I saw that David Kibbe had gone back and re-typed people because he found out their height, and I strongly disagreed with that. Like, if their height was disguised enough in photos that he could not tell what it was, it means their vertical line was way off! anyway, the author is dead and all that. I like your interpretation of Kibbe better than any that I've seen and I do call it the Merriam body type instead to differentiate.
This is really helpful Merriam, could you give visuals for every question on the Kibbe test please? From what you said about Lucie Lou’s head being small, you mean “narrow”? Her head is long so do you mean narrow in width compared to the width of the shoulders? Also, I would have guessed Jada is a Theatrical Romantic, probably due to her face, so this confirms I still have not mastered the skill of assessing body types! Although it is a lot of fun to do it whilst people watching!
Thank you! My answer would have been "it's very obvious to everyone that I'm short" but that's because I'm just very small! When people look at me they can see right away that I'm small in size compared to everyone around me (I'm about 5'2", 1,59m) but I don't look _that_ petite! ...at least I guess
Thanks for clearing the vertical line question up. I was struggling to answer this on the kibbe test. Do you think length of shoulders also affects perceived head size in relation to the body?
Your videos have been so informative. I’m wondering if you have any thoughts as to why gamines tend to be the types talking most about Kibbe on CZcams? Thank you.
How many "heads" fit into the rest of your body? 8 is average, 7 is the short look, 9 is supermodel (tall) proportions. We learned this in art class ;)
something that ive noticed is the importance of the width of the head compared to the lenght of it. Megan fox, Jada and Tilda Swinton all have a narrow head and that is what makes it look even smaller than it actualy is. So if youre having an hard time figuring out what your head size is, pay attention to the width of it.
Jada Smith is often typed as theatrical romantic. I'm confused now. She wears lots of shimmer... thanks for this it s explained perfectly. But that question was not the main problem for me I still have problems to tell wht shape my bones have....
What trips me up is my peak height was 5'9" and I had a very long torso due to a six lumbar vertebra which means I was supposed to be 5'7" and have proportions that match that height... just with a long torso. I considered myself a SD because that seemed to fit the description of my body best, but always get TR on these quizzes because my head seems small in comparison to my body, but most commonly people assume I am shorter, like around 5'4". Stranger still, I will end up around 5'4" from my back deteriorating (it's nearly impossible to avoid this happening and sixth lumbar vertebra occurs in roughly 10% of the population), which would probably make my head seem larger in proportion to the rest of my body. I've already lost about two inches. This is probably pretty rare for people interested in Kibbe, but I hope this helps anyone who gets tripped up about this question as well!
Does shoulder width play into this? I have a larger head but my shoulders are also wide so I'm not sure if my head looks proportionately large overall or not.
2:42 well im confused... I dont see, that Megan Fox taller than Naomi and Ashley. Its clear, she has short legs (compare to her body), therefore she doesn't look tall. To my opinion, Ashley maybe looks slightly taller than Naomi. The girl in green dress indeed looks very short, and maybe she is short in reality. Maybe her height was named bigger than it is. Some stars do that. And i dont see Jada Pinkett Smith taller, than she is. For me its obvious, she is very, very tiny. 9:07 Queen Latifa with height 5.10 is soft classic?? Im very very confused... And i dont think she looks much shorter than she is. I didn't know her height, but always saw her like a big women, not only because of her weight.)
I am tall with long hands and feet and legs. I recently notice people compliment me with a long top with horizontal lines. And i notice actually all vests, jacks and vertical lines on my tops look not good. So I seem to better wear long tops ( over-my-but. Or till knee. I watch this weekends many videos and still wondering my main style type. I just bought a bright red flowery A dress and looked so cute! But will look again and can return it.
I think that regardless of "type" there will always be different things that look good on someone. So if you feel you look cute then I say keep it!! 💜💜 I've yet to figure out which "type" I am 😂
I hope you see this but I constantly get told that I look shorter than I am, until people literally walk up to me and go oh, wow you actually are tall. I am 173cm tall (5'8) so I have automatic vertical, so this is why this perspective question I think falls short for me, works better if you are shorter. For me I factored in Kitchener, classic/gamine essence blend (most of my height comes from my torso not my legs, there is two and a half hand lengths between under the bust and my navel and another hand between my naval and high hip. So more contrasted body. But I still wear mostly Dramatic lines to accomodate for my height. I hope that makes sense.
funny thing: people guess i'm shorter than i am when they first meet me (see me sitting down, see me from a distance, just don't pay attention to my height during the first few minutes of conversation) so my answer should be D according to the first sheet, right? yet when you look at me head to toe my head is definitely smaller in proportion to my body, so my answer should be B according to the second sheet. what i don't understand is how people can view me as being short, even when i'm standing across from them, when i'm freaking 178cm (5'10") tall, like... what's up with that?
Could be that your torso is short and that you have very long legs which contribute the majority of your height. People tend to look at you from the torso upward so they think you're short till you stand up. In comparison find a shorter person but with a longer torso and shorter legs. You'll notice that when you both are seated they appear to be taller than you. Hope this helps.
When you say head side do you mostly mean face size? If a person has a very fleshy, round large face but her over all head size/hat size is extremely small. Very short neck. Also, shoulders very narrow and sloping, 5’5” tall, and pear shaped with small waist and small chest. Relatively slim. -How would that body be classified?
Well explained💖💖👍🏼I would very much appreciate if you could incert mesurements in cm. I try to follow but 5'0, 6'3, does not paint a picture in my (european) head, instead I have to google every lady to get it lol 🥰
What if I have a small head in proportion to my head and small torso as compared to my legs. That would mean my legs are the longest part of my body. At the same time my hips are also the widest part of my body. Which category I am? Can I be called dramatic classic?
I still have no idea :/ My head to me seems bigger for my height, and a lot of people say I look young because of my head, BUT I measured it and for my height it takes 8 to 8,5 heads of mine 😂 so it's smaller. Also people guess I'm slightly taller than I am however they say that because of my big width in my body, my head being "big" is good and proportional. So...?
0:44 I always got stuck between C and E because people would usually guess my height correctly but I am obviously short .... But I'm glad this vid exists because I would look slightly taller in pics and my head looks like it is in porportion with my body along with my narrorw and slightly long vertical line ...... So thank you for this vid because when only focusing on my head , I realize answer C fits me best 😁
I dont know if mine would be A or B. I mean obviously no one would think I'm 6'5 but everyone DOES think I am taller because my legs are so long lol so I guess I'd be answer "B"
Looking at full length photos taken of me , i do appear to have a small head in comparison to my body. I have always been mistaken for being tall. From looking at photos, people think I'm 5'9 and in person people think I'm still taller than I am ,usually 5'6 😂 ... I'm 5'3 . Does this mean I'm a classic or dramatic? Im very mixed 😂🤦♀️ my legs are long but my arms are short . My hips are wide but my torso is very narrow 🙄 i thought i was soft gamine, now im thinking am i soft dramatic. Can you be a soft dramatic at 5'3 ? 🤷♀️
I'm 5'7" 1/2, but I don't know how tall I look. I know I have a huge head, though. When I was skinny, I was often called "tiny" and "small." When I took the test a while ago, the results suggested that I'm flamboyant gamine, but aren't I too tall to be a gamine?
I´m flamboyant natural but have got a (slightly) short vertical line, I´m 5'11 (180 cm) but I look shorter, compared to my head my shoulders look proportionate but compared to my body they are wide. All my answers are A and B (mostly A) apart from my vertical line
Thank you for sharing! It's so important to remember that only one answer isn't going to make or break a kibbe body type. Here you are, a flamboyant natural, with a shortish vertical line! There are some flamboyant naturals who don't have wide shoulders, but all other answers are A and B. :)
I have a small head, and people always guess me quite a bit taller. ("You're thin, have a nice face and are tall! You should become a model!" "I am only 1m66" "REALLY?" "Yes but I'm wearing heels and have a small head" "Oooh...") I think that, if you're an extreme exception like me, someone who looks model-tall or someone who looks cute-short and you're actually average height, aka you ar ein this awkward situation often, you may actually know the answer. Seriously, people think I'm 1m75 or something, or at least 1m72.
In comparison to Height is as confusing as the original question because what does that really mean? Whats the "normal" ratio of a person's head to height? Since there isn't really a norm to start with, an easier visual comparison to make is head:shoulders. As you said a lot of the time, you look at the head in relation to the width of the shoulders, it's much easier to "see" this, so the question should be changed to reflect that.
In Taiwan, when we say someone has a "nine-head body," it mean that the person's height is nine times the length of the head. It's deemed as attractive and goddess-like. On the other side, saying that someone has a "five-head body" is not very nice.
I used to think so too and it misguided me. I have moderately long VL and people guess I'm taller than I am. But I also have wide cheekbones and jaw and narrow shoulders, so my head looks quite big in comparison to them. Or you could have wide shoulders and narrow face, but if the head is long, you'd still look shorter. The first question is all about vertical proportions, it can help to type moderate-sized women, who are tricky to differentiate between
@@irgenddwo well, my mom has wide cheekbones and jaw and narrow shoulders and bigger head than mine. And she looks taller than me, although we have similar height. And my sister has very small head and doesnt look tall at all.

what i don't understand is how people can view me as being short, even when i'm standing across from them, when i'm freaking 178cm (5'10") tall, like... what's up with that?
Could be that your torso is short and that you have very long legs which contribute the majority of your height. People tend to look at you from the torso upward so they think you're short till you stand up. In comparison find a shorter person but with a longer torso and shorter legs. You'll notice that when you both are seated they appear to be taller than you. Hope this helps.
@@victoriaissah2795 oooh yes yes true!
I will keep this in mind!
@@merriamstyle thank you👍🏼🥰🥰
Is it the size of their head or the length and thickness of their necks?
What if I have a small head in proportion to my head and small torso as compared to my legs. That would mean my legs are the longest part of my body. At the same time my hips are also the widest part of my body. Which category I am? Can I be called dramatic classic?
I still have no idea :/
My head to me seems bigger for my height, and a lot of people say I look young because of my head, BUT I measured it and for my height it takes 8 to 8,5 heads of mine 😂 so it's smaller. Also people guess I'm slightly taller than I am however they say that because of my big width in my body, my head being "big" is good and proportional. So...?
😅 5,9 here, I reallized on a photo a friend took that my head is kind of small, but I am also not as skinny as most of these super skinny woman...
Isn't that Christina Ricci on the left, rather than Nicole Ritchie?
Yes, it's Christina. Her head always makes me think she is very short, but she isn't.
@@mofetabionica I had jury duty with her - she is very short.
@@Cassella_and_Salt :o then she does match her head! She looks short.
And is Nicole Ritchie and the other is Rachel McAdams,no Jessica chastein
What's Gwendoline Christie's type? Soft Dramatic or Dramatic?
I have big had but people think I’m taller than I am. I’m 171 people usually think I’m 175 even if I don’t wear hills
I'm 5'7" 1/2, but I don't know how tall I look. I know I have a huge head, though. When I was skinny, I was often called "tiny" and "small." When I took the test a while ago, the results suggested that I'm flamboyant gamine, but aren't I too tall to be a gamine?
I’m pretty sure jada pinkett Smith is a live verified theatrical romantic
Aly Art says Jada Pinkett Smith is theatrical romantic 🤔
Some say the size of the head is not important. I have a small head and I dont look longer. I am 156cm
But the heels are everything. Mayan fox isn’t 5’4. In heels. They are all adding three inches at least?
I have a small head, and people always guess me quite a bit taller. ("You're thin, have a nice face and are tall! You should become a model!" "I am only 1m66" "REALLY?"
"Yes but I'm wearing heels and have a small head" "Oooh...") I think that, if you're an extreme exception like me, someone who looks model-tall or someone who looks cute-short and you're actually average height, aka you ar ein this awkward situation often, you may actually know the answer.
Cristina Ricci is not Nicole Ritchie!
Whos Nicole ? You mean Christina .. and who is the red head you were calling Jessica? Youre not confusing her with Jessica Chastain right?
This is Christina Ricci, not Nicole!
I thought very short women had to be gamine. As in jada. How can she be anything Else?
Girl, you need to stop acting like you’re an expert. You are literally scamming people.
