A friend introduced me to the Wild Unknown tarot deck and I immediately told her of the Rime of the Ancient Mariner illustrated by Gustave Doré, which is a great inspiration for me. I'm very fond of the poem, it's imagery and depth. I absolutely love Doré's illustrations for the Rime. The one for the Wheel is from the Rime and is one of my favorites ( 3:43 ) and also the one for 2 of Swords ( 10:40 ). I had no idea there was a whole tarot deck with Doré's illustrations! Amazing!
It's a beautiful deck. Hoping they do a special edition because it deserves that. Slightly larger cards, better card stock, gilded ages and a really good guidebook.
Reading tarot for me is rooted within the art of any deck , being used.. Tarot communicates via art images. The traditional Christian view of evil Tarot is based on miss-information over the passage off time. Alined with Jewish kabalistic tree of life. The tree aline's its attachment to (assigned)both major and minor cards .There are some Christian ministries that produce a similar charts using, a more modern new age system to show the same numbered placing . For any true Tarot card reading ,the image are pointers only. Has you may find certain conflicts arraise with some cards traditional meanings while participating in some reading s.I purchased the deck you speak off drawen by its imagines.I offer the the seeker a choice of over 20 decks ,from which to have their reading from . Point of note the Good Tarot deck is not always their first choice ( it is mine) . But unlike the standard reading, I personally incorporate two extra decks .I use the Smith reading ,( nothing to do with rider/ smith deck). Simply the client choose from a multiple chose of decks . The choice Three different decks. Then they place these decks in order of preference. Then as you normally chose the first three card past present and future lay them out . Then remove the remaining cards. pick deck Two, now it comes in to play . However the past is the past so the reading is centred on the middle present card. The the next card then building the now , the advantage of this reading is based on the principal. History repeats itself.The possibly of the same card repeating itself is now possible. This alliance is to the possibility of continuous error. The chain is now obvious. The future card are in the last chosen and, are not brought into play till the present cards are expanded upon . I never go beyond 5 cards for the present. To do more than five would really be in to the future area.There should be enough clarification of the now as you have the first choice of deck plus 4 from the second . Lastly the future Again the repeating of same card applies.The secound deck is removed from play . Wonder what you think of the Smith reading . The review was helpful . The History of Tarot is in places is questionable and still up for more research .Has readers we are open to changes. The questioning I often use is how is the information gained? From experience or by information transmitted from others. The answers I guess is a bit of both . Experience comes with age. At the end of the day instinct is what sharpens the reads sword. Thank you. I have done readings with this deck and it does carry through with some fantastic energy. Especially for angel/spirit and past loved one readings. I do hope they bring out a more deluze limited edition type deck with higher quality as this deserves it!

Thanks for this, Victoria. As a Gnostic Practitioner, the images chosen for two cards here weigh against their use (in my opinion). (1) TWO OF PENTACLES. Dore's illustration here depicts the story of the horrific sacrifice of Jephthah's daughter in the Book of Judges, a sacrifice demanded by the Temporal Creator. (2) THE WORLD. The illustration used is a depiction of the Presence of (the true) God, the Creator of Time and Space and the Human Soul, but, per Gnostic Revelation, NOT the Creator of this World. Ironic.
Such an artist deserved a much better quality of the cardboard paper.
Absolutely agree. Would love to see them make a special edition with the best card stock, silver gilded edges and a proper book
