  • Let's talk about Mega Man 2 and how good it is. This is a great game, with memorable levels, music and more. It was also somewhat manageable difficulty wise, but some levels did break me. Let me know what you think and make sure to subscribe to the channel for more content!! #MegaMan #megaman2

I'll never forget the time my buddy was playing this game on Hard while drinking heavily. He ended up beating it without a game over. Super impressive but then when he tried to stand up, he was too drunk to manage that. Somehow his body was better at Mega Man 2 than normal existence.

Item #2 makes Heat Man's stage a breeze. You get it after defeating Air Man.

Glad you enjoyed the game. It really is a great game.
Yes it did sound that good on release back then.
Normal difficulty was added to north American release, and is actually an easier version. Difficult setting is the original difficulty in Japan.
If you think boomerang is OP, try using metal blade. It fires in 8 directions and kills most things instantly, including metal man.
In Japan, it is not called Rocket Man, but rather Rock Man, as in rock n' roll.
Heat man's stage is a lot easier if you use item-2 to just fly past all the blocks over the pit.

Yeah, this is just the NES version of the game. It both looked and sounded this good back in '88 (there's no enhancements). This was the first video game I ever experienced with a "stage select" style gameplay, and it was really fun to figure out how to play through (incidentally, when my friends and I rented it back in the day, we accidentally selected Quick Man's stage, which was extremely difficult to get through on first introduction, and we didn't realize that we could choose a different stage until AFTER we beat it).
The reasons why I feel this is the best Mega Man game:
1.) The Robot Masters' powers make sense, and this is really the last of the original Mega Man games to do this. Water douses heat, heat burns wood, metal pops bubbles, etc.
2.) No powered-up Mega Buster, no slide move; this forces you to use the Robot Masters' abilities, which forces you to manage your resources, which gets you to try different weapons.
3.) It's a quantum leap better than the original Mega Man, whereas the sequels are really just marginally different than this one.
    Anyway, thanks for posting!

MegaMan 1 had lots of rough edges which have been ironed out with the second game.
Not saying MegaMan 2 is perfect but it improved in many many ways.
You'd be surprised by the way how brutal this game can be on DIFFICULT mode, which is the original and only Japanese difficulty setting.
The version from Wily Wars also only features this setting, so it hits much harder than NORMAL.
If you decide to go further down this road, MegaMan & Bass (which is actually Rockman 8.5) as well as MegaMan 9 will make seriously give you a challenge.

1:40 - The reason why it was such a trend they attempted to make more "manly" boxart back in the 80's and much of the 90's was to try to make it look more appealing to westerners... Like at the time boys were more used to seeing stuff like G.I. Joe, Dungeons & Dragons, Marvel/DC comics, etc. being catered to them... and having the original cute Japanese style would have presumably looked off-putting and dismissed by boys to be something made for "little girls" or "babies".
Keep in mind anime was still a VERY niche thing to be a fan of in those days before Toonami helped make it more mainstream by the late 90's.

@@podcastnowbacktothepast We still see this to a much lesser extent these days, most infamously the Kirby games giving him angry eyebrows in western releases in the boxart, same with Kid Icarus Uprising.
Sometimes it's done just to parody that "mandate" of the era, like how Megaman 9 and 10 had intentionally bad boxart just for us to have a little chuckle at that embarrassing, yet accurate moment of Megaman's past :P

Most people, gamers old and old, never finish their video games. A lot of 80s and 90s kids have given up at the first sign of challenge.
The amount of times people call SMT 3 a BS game since 2004 is pretty high. Believe it or not, people have fun in different ways.

The series gets better and better, especially with 3 and 4. I'd say parts 5 and 6 are on par with 2, so not quite as good as 3 and 4. The series then had a hiccup with 7 and 8, but then it peaked with the perfect masterpiece that is 9. parts 10 and 11 are pretty awesome, but 9 is by far the best.
