    This is the first 18A video you can find online! If it's rear bed can be lower for a sitting area and having a cassette toilet instead of portable, then it will be the winner.

    • @Adventure-Mom
      @Adventure-Mom  Před 2 lety +1

      This is not my preferred layout either as I like having a larger bathroom with a cassette toilet and I like having a sofa seating area. However, I am sure there are people who will really like this layout. Thanks for Watching!

    • @mikonimo
      @mikonimo Před 2 lety

      I like the bed in 18A (only 3 big pillows) compared to 18M, (there are total 6 pillows) to make a bed. And 18A's bathroom is way too small. Not enough space for standing. And yes, Thor should use the cassette toilet, where the cassette is accessible from the outside. This model is similar to Hymer Free or Carado CV540 and they have bigger bathroom, enough leg room for taking a shower. Hopefully Thor will adjust the bathroom, similar to Hymer Free or Carado CV540. Also both Hymer and Carado has a ventilation in the bathroom's roof. I don't see any ventilation or exhaust fan in this 18A.

    Almost bought it as it’s fit all our needs for our family of 4. The seats are comfortable. Great stuffs like microwave, bath room and pop up, AC, generator and still only 18 feet.
    We put an order in, but we got disappointed in looking at it. 3 main deal breaker:
    1) extremely tight…the bed inside the van is so small. Perhaps a little bigger than your twin bed but my kid (15 Yrs old and I (I’m 5.3”, 110lbs), laying like sardines🙈can’t move around, you need to be sleeping like a rock to sleep two.
    2) the generator is underneath the car and it is so low to the ground. With a speed pump, you must be extremely careful to not scratch it.
    3) not enough storage.

    • @Adventure-Mom
      @Adventure-Mom  Před 2 lety +3

      Sorry to hear that it would not work for you but I do agree that the rear bed is small and I would be concerned about how low the generator hangs as well. Thor did move the generator location on the 18M to a much better location and I think they need to do the same for the 18A. You may want to consider a Tellaro or Sequence with a pop-top. Thanks for Watching!

    • @mikonimo
      @mikonimo Před 2 lety

Many great layout from RV makers in Europe (Hymer Free 540, AutoTrail V-LINE 540 SE, Carado CV540) which include kitchen, wet-bath & pretty good size bed. I hope Solis Pocket & Pleasure Way Tofino will include wet-bath in their next model :)

    I wish they would make the rize 18m or the sequence k floor plan with the pop top. The carado axion studio (pop top) was the best layout in the industry but it was only available 1 year before they went bankrupt. Thor owns the layout and refuses to use it. maddening.

  • @merlin_og8210
    @merlin_og8210 Před 2 lety +2

    Enjoyed the review. The Ram ProMaster has always intrigued me. This is a nice little Class B. Nice wet bath, always a plus, but looks a little tight. I do wish it had a cassette toilet. I never thought I would be one to say that, but I’ve changed my thoughts because of the simplicity and flexibility it provides. Hopefully one day the ProMaster will offer an all wheel drive or 4X4 version. I know their chassis would have to be somewhat compromised from what I’ve read, but I really think it would be more of a consideration for many. Being a New England resident, it’s always a “con” for me when looking at others, such as the Transit or Sprinter. Always appreciate your perspective!

    • @Adventure-Mom
      @Adventure-Mom  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks for the compliment! I like the Ram Promaster RVs especially when the layout includes the rear bath because that makes for a great size wet bath (aka 18M). However, as you indicated it is not 4X4, does not have a lot of clearance, and it only has a 3500lbs tow rating. I also like the cassette toilet options for the same reasons. Thanks for Watching!

    I don't understand why doesn't anyone in the RV industry sells a trim of one of their models for the Solo or couple live-aboard. I mean, you see all these videos of people converting Promasters into custom apartments with more utility than just any of these RVs. Granted, I know they sell for 100% 'Recreation'. Imagine if Thor would have decided to do away with the 2 seat bench-dinette of this model and made it into a large storage area with a counter above or made that a huge close (ditch the window) or move the shower there and made the current shower a closet resulting in a net gain in storage which is what is missing here....etc. I mean, the fact that this one has the ac below means lots of solar panels on the rooftop. Boondocking for extended periods anyone? The driver and the passenger seats could then share a foldable/swivable table in the middle. Heck, me as a solo Fulltime liveaboard would use the passenger seat with the table for deskspace and or meal time. I mean, how many extra seats are you going to need if you can lounge in your bed, stand around from time to time in the van and also throw some foldable chairs outside? This one does not have enough sleep space for 4 adults, for sure.
    Me? As a solo-liveaboard I would throw a better, thicker, cushier and more confortable mattress back there to be left permanently, would try to fit a foldable bike under the bed, maybe a full size bike frame between the narrow space of the bed cabinets and the door since outside it would be stolen for sure at some point in time, would go full solar on the rooftop, maybe connect all the solar to one of those newer Bluettis with the 30 Amp connector so that way I could rig it inside for choosing a connection between the solar above or the external shore power connector. But then there is the wasted space in what she calls the 'workarea'.
    So many MISSED MARKET SHARE OPPORTUNITIES!
    Hello Thor, LA trim for LiveAboard? or FT for Full-Time?
    Hello Thor, anyone there?

    Outstanding as always. You mention the generator clearance, but from the video it is hard to tell if the generator is below or even with the rear axle. The generator looks to be 6 or 7 inches from the ground??? Do you think the generators location would be a problem? • @Adventure-Mom

      "Do you think the generators location would be a problem?"
      I know *I* sure sure would think it's a problem! It's not IF the generator will be ripped-out by some obstacle on the road but WHEN it will be. Plus, accessing it for servicing is terrible. A very poor design.
      That defect alone would cross this Thor off my Short List right up front.
      If I needed a generator, I'd rather carry a portable one than this "permanent" one.

    It kinda has everything, but it’s not all well executed. That bed in the van itself is too small for many. The bed up top is similar. Getting tot he bed up top will be awkward having to climb over sideways and span the small gap to get in. I see bruised shins and a kid falling pretty easily. The front seating looks good, but what an awkward way to open the table…… . Then there’s a Pioneer stereo vs factory. Pioneer are pretty good with the wireless apple car play and android auto. Still, not well executed. The best feature is the 18 feet. We get some big winds here, in fact they are pretty strong today. You definitely want one parked just right before you open the top, not unlike in a Westfalia.
    If you like it, that’s a pretty great thing as the price is ok. Make sure you don’t need a lot of clearance underneath. The generator hangs down and the propane attachment was low also.
    I have the same model of Mercedes Sprinter Van as the presenter a Thor Sanctuary 19P. I really don’t mind the Thor Sanctuary 19PT as well which is basically the sam, but built in a Ford Transit van instead. I have seen them with the dual rear wheels giving them heavier towing. The 3.5 EcoBoost has more power and torque and you notice it right away. The torque happens as low as in the diesel, but has a wider band which is nicer passing on the highway or merging etc. you won’t get quite the same fuel economy, but it will even out based on the price difference between gasoline and diesel.
    They are not significantly more than this version in the video mind you.

    • @Adventure-Mom

      Thanks for your point of view on these RVs. The RV you choose should depend on how you plan on using it and which layout works for you. @@Adventure-Mom - Very accurate!! My wif bought a 2022 Thor 19P,,, I think you have the same now. She went out one day, because I was waffling all the time and she picked the platform I liked with the interior she liked. It has the 400 ah Lithium based battery and 380 watts of solar. You almost don’t need a generator!!! At this time of year, here in Alberta, Canada, you don’t need the generator. 400 ah is a lot of reserves. I have seen some units advertised with as much as 800 ah. You could run the AC all day!! But it will take 2 days to recharge unless you are driving a lot the next day!! Haha.
      We remote camp and see a lot of rutted and muddy trails, so the Mercedes was the only choice for us. We just beat several price increases here in Alberta as well and got it for about $165,000 cdn. About $125,000 usd. They are expensive things!!! I am using the van more and more vs our F150 Tremor with a Rayzr FK for my solo trips. So much so, I may start daily driving the van and selling the truck and camper. The vans are so incredibly easy to use and are very handy, since I drive full size vehicles all the time, the van doesn’t feel large to me. A distinct advantage of the vehicle being just under 20 ft long.
      My wife & I will keep watching. Stay safe out there, Eh!

      @John Smith: Personally, I'm avoiding any Thor RV due to "craftsmanship" issues (fit & finish/materials used/construction techniques). Consequently, I'm looking at a Pleasure Way Tofino. Although it has less features than these Thors it would still work for me: It'd mainly be my Daily Driver with some occasional weekend camping AND a more comfortable long-road-trip vehicle. Plus, it's better quality and has a higher resale value.
      However, I'd PREFER a Ford Transit chassis of this size (with AWD as Ford doesn't make them in true 4x4 which would be best for my needs) vs. a Promaster-based Class B, but I don't think anyone uses a "shorty" Transit (IF there is one -- don't know), just Promasters. Thee P-W Tofino is on a Promaster, so that'd have to do. ;-)
