- What's going on with the winter weather in Mauritius? That's the question I'm asked a lot in the comments section at the moment. Of course it’s the Southern Hemisphere and it is winter, but it’s been unseasonably cold and just generally rather grey and wet. I take a look at what's causing it, and what the weather normally is like in Mauritius.

For people from Central/Sounthern Europe, used to 30+ degrees in summer, bathing at 20 degrees on a windy day might feel cold. This weather is absolutely fantastic for visiting this beautiful island and for water sports, but it's a far from what we would call a lovely day at the beach. Next time we'll try the Mauritian summer, for sure. Thank you Lucy for this well documented channel, it was a great source of inspiration fot our trip🤗

I live in curepipe n work in floreal... its getting way colder but shorter winter each time..... even my wife who is from the mountains of Himalayas... says that the rain mix in a that it's worse that over there soometimes....but still, we will gladly go with what our small island has for us...

i went to goodlands mauritius in july 2015 and while it wasn't blistering hot like it is during the summer months, it was pleasant. i went again in july this year and it was way colder. i had to wear a jacket everyday and i had to sleep with multiple blankets! winters in mauritius have definitely become colder!

Bring a raincoat, jumper and some jeans. Other than that we wear shorts and vests or t-shirts. Yesterday was very warm at midday. I’m sure you’re going to have a great time Kauser.
When there's no anti cyclone, weather is warm, some days are really sunny, though, only this year, I have felt so cold I'm in the north and native. I wore socks and even gloves one evening.🤣 definetely warm weather is coming.
I live in Mauritius so i'm already having a great time on the island and you should visit Odysseo Oeanarim-Mauritius it's one of the best aquarium on the island and Museums also

Hello dear. The weather was very cold because we were currently in winter. Mainly June July its really cold, and also we have frequent anticyclones as well. Now, the temperature is much better if you're still in Mauritius. Stay safe and hope you enjoyed your trip 💯🇲🇺 Keep well.

Here in France it is so hot and dry, with droughts and many wild forest fires in the south. The climate is really changing fast.

Just got back Lucy from two scrumptious weeks on the west coast in the Sugar beach resort. Bit of a mixed bag but overall for us brits it was glorious between 21-24c daily. Wind at times and some rain but overall warm enough for us tourists😂😂😂 the fist week the coral reef was pulverised by the huge waves but what it smashed, ended up on our beach which was brilliant for me and my camera. One question tho, where was all the fish, the butterflies, exotic birds and so on🥲🥲🥲 get to the Sugar beach resort for a review it’s glorious mate.
Thanks for all the advice in your vlogs and we are for sure coming back but on a smaller budget next time. How about doing a vlog on hiring cars ect and what 5he police are like on traffic stops😂😂😂. Thanks again Lucy and keep them coming 📸👍❤️🇬🇧🤓

Butterflies and birds are easily seen in the gorges, and lots of fish off the public beach in Le Morne or off paradis hotel.

Here in the UK we have REDHOT weather alert meaning it will be dangerously hot(30 degrees) for children and the elderly in the weekend.For me I am loving it.We do not get sunny weather very often here.

I wouldn't be surprised if in some years i see snow in mauritius. There has been hail falling before in some generally known cold areas.
Hopefully be over late December for 3 weeks. Been looking forward to it since we first booked 2.5 years ago so hoping nothing will stop us tis time. :-)

Hello. Nope, I wouldn’t cancel at all. You will still have a great time. Eleanor was much ado about nothing….a bit of wind and rain 😊

I feel that this winter is quite cold even if I'm living in the North and more rainy than usual. The last even colder winter like this is some years ago. So, you never know.

The water should be warmer in October. A great month (normally).
1:14 - lots of rain in Jun. n Jul. r really unusual.
1:44 - summr, officially Nov. 2 Apr. Hot, humid n oftn wet w/ possible cyclones.
1:52 - wintr May 2 Oct., gen. warm n dry.
1:58 - temperatures inside island r gen. 3-5 degrees cooler than coast.
3:15 - very hot in Nov. 2 Feb.

BTW if you see any point in meeting us (very frankly I look forward to buying you a drink you really deserve it for all you make us discover in your vlog since a year and a half) let me know (as far as I was able to read between the lines, we shouldn't be too far from where you live (Flic en flac to be precise). @@LucyLeheilleix sorry to hear that hoping it won't be harder than the one we got 3 weeks ago (it was very aggressive in France end of June, start of July). At least we don't worry about it anymore now (and for the next few months). If it follow the path we went through, after a week you are pretty much out of it (you might not be running live a rabbit though). We stay there 10 days so if you have any chance to find an hour or so of your time, just ping us and let's make it happen.

I live in Beau Bassin and my house gets cold during the winter but when I go outside I just take a woolly jacket, sometimes I take off if it's sunny. I don't like it when it's rainy. I love it when it's sunny.

Les hivers sont de plus en plus froids ces dernières années, dans ma cuisine orientée sud-ouest, il ne fait que 16°C (un peu en hauteur pas loin de Flacq). Quelqu'un a parlé de 12°à Curepipe. Je suis depuis 2005 à Maurice et il ne faisait pas aussi frais avant ces 2-3 dernières années.
Le " réchauffement climatique" hahaha
Difficile pour l'être humain de réfléchir sur des ères qui durent plusieurs milliers ou milliards d'années. L'univers continue sa course et se moque des théories de Greta Tunberg, Schwabe et autres climatologues un peu trop mondialistes qui ne se soucient guère de traverser la planète seuls à bord de leur jet privé mais qui vous demandent à la population d'éteindre le Wifi la nuit.
I’m in Mauritius atm on holiday and the weather is not great. Water is freezing and not much else to do.
Wouldn’t recommend coming in winter.

The continuous winter anti-cyclones have been getting more and more frequent every year for over a decade Lucy. That's what is making it unseasonably colder. Winter used to be a very pleasant time of the year weather-wise. Something has certainly changed sadly.

@@LucyLeheilleix unfortunately it’s even worst mauritian beach was 100 time better when I was young which is about 30 years ago now beaches are being washed away, may you still see beauty but as a native seeing the changes unfolding is quite heartbreaking
true. Global warming is a critical issue for Mauritius. if the sea level goes up. we are probably done. Sad but they told that years ago.
What temp in farenheit are we calling cold? Whenever I check the weather there its never less than 70. Severe winds maybe?
Cold for me is under 18 degrees Celsius. Pretty much anywhere which isn’t tropical 😅

@@jigerjoshi yes. In the center of the island in winter. But it’s tropical, so never as cold as Europe or somewhere like Canada. The climate here is mild.
We’ve just returned from the East coast of Mauritius and experienced the wind and rain of anti cyclone but the temperature was warm enough to sunbath and swim in the ocean without a wet suite. It’s a tropical island in the middle of the Indian Ocean and this type of weather is to be expected and enjoyed. We did !

Typically nice sunny days up to 26-28 degrees, but you never know!? October is great as it’s heating up, but still without the intense humidity.

Actually the temperatures overall are close to average, it's just that the winters we've had over the past decade were hotter than usual and we got used to them as being "normal".

In my location ( north of the Med) average temp in winter is 12°C. Right now it's 36°C, unbearable without Aircon.

Many cyclones this winter not strong but brought lots of rains and winds, you will feel comfortable if you stay in the north or west

Hello. January will be hot and humid and there will be the chance of cyclones. March, April and May are better (in my opinion).

It is very good time to open business on Mauritius. I have experience in food manufacturing in Perth Western Australia and there is plenty opportunity to start manufacturing food on Mauritius.
Mauritius importing 94% of food and we have plenty ideas what to do on Mauritius.

In Curepipe, yesterday it was 12 degrees but usually it is 16. In the North it’s better.
Definitely climate change.. It's the first time we experience this kind of cold..
