    Hello Lucy, even though it is true that the beaches look spectacular, they do not feel that way. Most white sandy beaches in Mauricius are not a pleasure to step on, but rather a suprisingly exfoliating memorable experience, I would describe as very small glass chards or if the experience is milder a very coarse sand paper... nothing compares to the Caribbean, which sand is like talc and careses you as you walk.

    • @LucyLeheilleix
      @LucyLeheilleix  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hello. You are correct. The sand is very course here. Thanks for the comment.

    Thank you Lucy for all these videos. This is my first visit to Mauritius from South Africa, and found your videos when trying to learn about Mauritius before coming. Great content and photography. Been very helpful and exciting to see the places after having seen them on CZcams. What about one driving in Mauritius. It has been a real adventure following Google short cuts through some of the towns and villages and the way Mauritians just pull up on the road to go into a shop. The traffic just then flows around the stationary car. The Mauritiuan drivers allow each other time to pass, so a very nice give and take once one gets into the flow of things. Also a short one on on buying groceries if not near a big supermarket, so would the very little shops sell eggs, milk or meat, do the locals eat pork and what some of the strange vegetables and what one can cook with them.

    Hi Lucy, our family is thinking about visiting Mauritius and we are finding your videos super informative! We love watersports including surfing and I see you are a keen surfer yourself. I have one big reservation about visiting Mauritius though. A friend told me to google 'surf localism Mauritius' and I found some quite disturbing videos and articles including one of a 16 year old tourist surfer being screamed at and sworn at by a 'local' and chased out of the water. I don't want to expose my kids (ormyself) to that kind of situation so was hoping you could let me know if the situation has resolved? Thanks again for your brill videos. 🤙🤙🤙

      Hi Lucy, many thanks for your speedy and candid reply. Do you and your husband have a degree of acceptance in the line up because you have been living there a while? Anyway, that unpleasant contingent aside, Mauritius looks awesome and the people welcoming, so we may try and come anyway, and learn to kitesurf instead. I presume we would not get any grief for that in the water? Do you have any feel for whether tourism might open up in July? Please excuse the raft of questions but you seem super knowledgeable 😀

    • @LucyLeheilleix
      @LucyLeheilleix  Před 3 lety

      My husband rarely surfs here, I do from time to time but I’m very respectful and am a girl, so I get little hassles. Honestly, rather kitesurf or wingfoil as it’s way more chilled and you’ll get the best waves of your life at Manawa and One eye. As for when the island opens up....that’s something we’d all love to know. For now beaches are closed and I’m going slightly mad! Wishing you all of the best.

    How really is the whether in August? Temperatures.?humidity? The ocean water is cold?

    • @LucyLeheilleix
      @LucyLeheilleix  Před 2 lety +1

      Weather in August is generally 24-26 degrees during the day (with sunshine). Cooler at night (you may need a jumper). It can be windy as the SE blows, but generally rather pleasant as the humidity has dropped significantly. The ocean is by no means cold as it sits at around (24 degrees).

    Dear Lucy - good to have you here, always a pleasure. Use your imagination to see in which one of these beaches can have enough space for the construction of a luxury 5 star resort similar to the AMAN resorts, such as the Amankila in Bali, thanks

      Hi Rahim. Thanks for the comment. In my honest opinion, this island is already saturated with way too many hotels. Now with covid, tourism is at an all time low. I think it’s time to capitalize on preserving the environment and focusing more on eco friendly alternatives. Stay well.

      Hi there. The main currency is rupees. Some shops sell in euros or dollars. Buying property can also be in euros and dollars.

      Hi Lucy
      Thanks for your prompt reply. I received a taxi quote in euro’s that’s why I messaged you. We had a situation years ago with Indian Rupee’s which we were told they were not an international currency. Ie hard to sell back. We are staying at maritim crystals beach Belle mare, I’ve checked distance at 24 km, however different taxi firms are saying 24-40 Kim’s. Can you recommend a genuine firm or expat service
      Many thanks Lucy

      Just pay with your credit card or bank card and withdraw cash at ATMS and you should be great. That way, you cut down on the bank notes at the end of your trip. For taxis, try the app Yugo 👍🏻

    Dear Lucy please do not entertain constructing more 5 star hotels on the beaches. The locals are not given the access they should have and the beaches/local environment will suffer.

      Don’t worry v, I am an environmentalist and am staunchly against development, especially on this island (where there is a huge saturation already in the hotel industry). In my opinion, Mauritius already has too many hotels. Thanks very much for the comment. Stay well.

      @@vtee8649 I agree with you that if they build more hotels on the beaches will cause harm to the local environment because when hotels are built , most filaos which were planted to prevent beach erosion will be uprooted. But even us ( mauritians), cause harm to the local environment, many times I have seen cans of beers, bottles of water, Pepsi and others on the beach which cause harm to the local environment, and if these bottles cause harm to many aquatic animals and plants which many are only found in mauritius. So, we should be responsible when we go to the beach, and If we have trash with us don't just throw it anywhere, throw it in a trash bin.
