This phone was from the future.
I think n900 i still one of the best phones i've owned. It has linux based operating system and also working multi tasking. Good phone. I liked the OS.
A decade has passed Lisa and you continue to excel and evolve.
Why i am here in 2018😕
same....probably, too much internet for the day
Am i late??
@@evilpatrick9562 nah you're good
@@yuub0t246 ok
because of maemo leste
Just came back here to watch this in February, 2024. This phone was a beast. I totally enjoyed it. The downside was the horrible battery life.
"This was too big to ever be a phone" back in the days when a phone with a 3.7 inch screen was considered big!
Absolutely right
Phones also have gotten a lot more slim since then. It's big in the fact it's a little bulky compared to nowadays. Even 2015 standards.
@Roborav And now they've all gotten smaller again!
@Roborav I like the 21:9 phones, but I was refering to how the bezels are getting so small, that a 6" phone is as big as a 5.5" phone when people were saying phones are too big. I'm sure you can find a 5.5" bezel-less phone that's as small as a Z5 compact.
@Roborav They're a standard aspect ratio, 21:9 instead of the weird 18:9. It makes them better for watching movies and gaming. The design seems super on brand to me, I don't get what your talking about. (Plus they're smaller than you think, like I said earlier, these bezelless phones are TINY!) You have to remember, Sony is the same group of people who put a 4K screen in a phone a few years ago.
after 6 years i found my nokia n900 today and charged it reminded me good days of 6 years ago of my life :(
same
Mine is broken now, tried to have it repaired but it's really dead. I miss having the slide-out tactile keyboard here, it was amazing. If only they'd make an up-to-date phone around 6" with a slide-out keyboard and a stylus, they could take my money
Me cry
How much it cost you?
Great memories, my last ever Nokia handset. (Before moving to the smartphone world) By today's standards yeh maybe dates but was such a great phone. Only sold it on eBay last year as I was so attached to it :-) multi tasking was a relatively new thing back then, it handles it pretty well.
it was a smarphone, smartphones are old. Their communicator line was smarphones
i love the thorough review. i'm waiting for mine from amazon and i really can't wait to use it. this video still keeps me on drooling for this device. i hope they ship it asap...
@stephenbell93 Yes, you can use the phone without a SIM card.
this is the best phone review I ever saw on youtube. Good job.
Period
It can connect to the Internet via the cell data network or via WiFi.
After losing my Samsung S2, I bought this one. It was so good, such a good camera for the time.
@TheCrystalanimation Yes, you can make calls and send text.
i read that the micro-usb port can break... then no charging off batteries, nor connection to laptop/pc. I am looking for an upgrade for my Nokia C5-00, have several options in mind (Nokia C6, E90, E52, E75, and the E7). i used some android devices, but after their micro-usb port broke, no use for them in the end. So, the same achiles heel happens with the N900..... Thats bad. Of the other phones i just mentioned, what do you consider the best ?
Best phone I had. Had some hardware defects like the USB port desoldering every 2 months or the gap between the screen and the keyboard, I wish they release another one optimized for Progressive web apps

I love this Review. Am going to get this phone because of this review.
We did mention the swirling control in our written review. Don't have time to cover everything in the video. To read our full written review visit the link in the video description.
i am using @2010, and I am searching N900 bcoz @17th nov 2020 i've see in my google.photo directory N900 much screenshot of app gps name MAPPER etc :) Iam feel happy to remember it...
This was more "smart" than nowadays toyphones for banana-kids.
Stfu
Animu avatar. Of course, considering of your level XD
Actually its multitasking capabilities are still better than modern smartphone flagships. It was only limited by its hardware and software polish, the philosophy of the software on the lower level is still unrivalled.
Just look at how the map updates real time on the homescreen.
Landscape only at the moment, unless the application supports portrait (like the phone and contacts). Although Nokia have said a universal portrait mode will be heading out in a firmware update early 2010.
Ahhhh, darn. The nostalgia...
Excellent review! Just wondering if the N900 can send picture messaging & also what is the daily battery use before it needs charging? Many thanks!
@Polpot12able
depends on what carrier your on, the N900 can be on ATT or T-mobile, not verizon, but the 3g will only work on tmobile, but yo can still use edge on ATT.
the Droid is only on verizon and can't be used on any other carrier in the US.
Hey, I want to ask a question about N900: Does it have an app like the "Active Notes" on E72/N97 (note application with different font effects, colors, photos etc.)? I'm considering N900 or N97 mini, because they both have good keyboards and cameras, but I definitely need Active Notes or something similar.
Yes, the most tabs I've had open at once is about 7, Then still could leave them in the back ground while sending texts.
If you click a link that will take you to a new tab on your desktop computer it will do exactly the same on this phone and leave the original page running in the background. Many a time I've left a long video to stream on one tab while browsing facebook on the other, simply swapping between the two to see how its going. You can also connect it to any tv, & display them on that
Ive had this phone for 2 years now, I normally upgrade every year, last year I passed over the upgrade because nothing new could match the N900 for simple balls to the wall getting the job done. I can be browsing the FULL internet, keep it running in the back ground while streaming a video from another site and then sent a text and then make a call all at the same time and the phone wont even slow. I'm coming up to upgrade this year now and I cant honestly think of anything thats a huge step fwd
"Too big to ever be a phone"
Oh, poor 2009 Lisa!
@iMULTIPLAYERi some operators make you a deal. for some phones, like the iP, its the only way you can buy it. you cannot use any other SIM cards in the iP other than that you bought with the iP. N900 is unlocked, so you can use any SIM card u want to.
Lisa you didnt mention tv out OR that nokia ships the unit with the very expensive cable included...
nice video. Can you tell me if I can change the interface to a light colored one. I really don't like black background with white text...
i like messing with aplications and i want instal some controler for my DSRL camera..im wonder witch phone will be better n900 or n97 ?
@Kevitivity I see, so you have the Droid Incredible from Verizon. Do you have the latest Android 2.2 yet? I don't even think Iphone plays flash.
I had one back in 2010. It was mind blowing
You can change the background and even use your own graphics.
Watching this 2019.
@elcorodr
unfortunately no, it's only for GSM networks. i hope it comes to verizon soon though.
Considering its practically a mini laptop the size is not to bad. Have you actually held one? When I got it it was smaller than I thought.
Awesome review and to be frank, I think you give a way better review then Phonedog any day. I had to subscribe to you and keep up the good work.
is this possible for this phone to operate it vericaly with a virtual keyboard??
"too big to ever be a phone." I wonder what they would think if they knew the sizes of phones today, like the note 20+. It's always funny watching older videos and seeing their sensibilities around phone designe.
hey dude where can we get the game for nokia n900 plz help me
@HiScoreKing i guess not, im in kenya, so they reached here late, many shops have the silly n97 and n96 phone, the slow cheap material phone, n86 and n85 are very rare to come by
you cant assign tones to individual contacts ?
@dieglhix you can but if you want to search for towns you will need internet which is crap cos my old n95 8gb had garmin maps from ebay which were great
nokia should remake this phone with 2018 specs + android !
They have made something similar for 2019. It's called the F(x)tec Pro 1 czcams.com/video/mgA0953Db00/video.html
@@tsdr6830 it's overpriced for the specs
Updated specs with MeeGo or Maemo 5 with Android Compatibility layer. Damn it will be killer.
Definitely not android. Symbian made it special and extra useful.
Please reply soon! I need to know if these can access the internet using a wifi hotspot! Thank you
please could u tell me...can u use music player while on call (my N72 used to give me that feature?
i had this phone back in 2010 i loved it
Yes, but you can not always cut and paste all texts. e.g. some links that are just plain text.
just got my N900, using PC SUITE it takes forever to put music on the device, please tell me i'm doing something wrong? and there's a faster way to put content on this device
@longites i think it had, i used it for less than an hour and my interest was the software since the hardware is pretty much like other nokia high end phones
@Kevitivity The Google Chrome with Froyo (Android 2.2) loads flash video just about as well as a computer (if not as well) you should check it out my friend.
do all games and apps on ovistore work on this?
and what about the themes?
this phone is pretty awesome as i am a nokia and linux fan :)
I loved this phone I remember playing room on it!!
which is the phone you compare to nokia n900? 4.00 m
Thanks =)
Does it automatically charge me for 3g fees when I put my SIM card in?
Is it true that you cant view the phone vertically other than for calls?
im gonna buy this 1 the next week. is it possible to use the gps without having internet plan ? (im in new zealand, = third world data rates)
@AshSB100 this of course has multitasking got full flash support doesnt lokc you into 2 yr contract no atnt did i mention full flash support? also got a higher res sceen and its imo better than 3gs
@07liberian nope but my last phone was an N97 and I dont miss any of the things u mention...the phone on the whole makes up for these ommisions..
Would be awesome if they remake and put a snapdragon 855 on it.
They have something similar for 2019. It's called F(x)tec Pro 1

HTC have new model coming out in April 2010 (in the UK) , the Desire... looks good.
does it work in portrait? or does it have a g-sensor?
@NoImNot23 Nokia sold it direct, T-Mobile stores didn't carry it.
i have a ? i live in the USA and i have at&t if i were t0 buy this phone unlocked what it would work with at&t network?

The moment she says the n800 is too big to ever be a phone
fast forward just..what, 3 years? we had the samsung galaxy note 1
Hi I'm from the future and now we have the fold
can this device be used without a SIM card? I'm considering using it for wifi and its gps, if thats possible?
also, can I have groups in my contacts? Like a company name with many contacts in it? I had that on my old 6600.
...also, alarm for wake up call. Hope you can answer
was?? u don hav it now! :( ...please could u tell me ...can u use music player while on call??
@adrian123456789xj yup, the chat works fine when on the browser. Or you can set it up so you can chat through the actual phone itself (without having the web browser open.
Does this phone work for at&t too?
@dieglhix i presume ovi maps can run offline on this one
still loving my N900 but factory reseting is such a headache
You guys are awesome. Thank you.
do u guys know that theres an android type of system coming to this phone i really need to get this now
@Amebixfan Just so you know I'm talking about web pages ,Duh!
Its not possible with all text, not all text is HTML. It only seems to work with hyperlinks.
Try looking through the OVI store online, they might have what your looking for.
@bloodchilde Why do they call it a "Smartphone" then?
@walix26 Yes, and yes.
is the motorolla droid better?
its weird looking at these phones from a few years back and looking at the phones now how thin and powerful
@B33ZMR it will be discontinued in june 2011, so hurry if u want to get it its already in the stores for more than a year.
This was my 18th smartphone i loved it
Miss my n900. Was very sophisticated
@MrLuar1 yes you can install android on n900 but i dont know how. but thats not the best option. ow arc is a powerful new device, and why do you need front camera, for video talks? me myself dont use this function so thats would be not a problem to me. buy arc ;)
awesome phone, excellent review!
@appelvinnie its a movie called 9.
Is Nokia N900 a little bit thick? Coz im still worrying. Thanks.
In what aspect exactly?
i was torn between the n900 and Nexus one. Finally deciding to go with the Nexus for the Android OS and the smaller width but daaamn .. it was a hard choise :D
Gladly
Browsing: best web experience on ANY phone. I've used iPhones, android & Symbian but nothing comes close to N900!
Talking: Typical Nokia, very clear and loud.
Videos: Impressive media player, also supports practically any video codec! So you can just drag and drop files to the phone - no encoding needed.
gps: quite accurate, also supports geotagging. No problems seen.
internet radio: works perfectly from my experience. Comes pre-loaded with a few too.
Overall, I'd recommend it! 8/10
I just bought this phone off ebay I cant wait to get my hands on it
@dagisto1987 it would suck up more battery if they did, it has naemo so its quick enough
@07liberian I can keep going if you want - tell you what I'll end with a quote from a review I saw somewhere - "The HTC Desire is one of the most impressive phones of all time, it can match or beat everything that the iPhone does" Pretty much sums it up imo!!
my dad had this back in the day!
HOW MANY CAMERAS DOES IT HAVE?
how times have changed...
if they bring back this one i will definitely buy it.
This hardware deign will never succeed today. But you can get one cheap on ebay if you keep looking.
