- Starship Technologies has partnered with delivery companies across the world to test autonomous, six-wheeled robots. But are city pedestrians ready to share pavements with them? The FT's Daniel Garrahan follows one delivering pizzas in south London.

He is 2 cute, awwwww asking to pass.
what a polite little robot.
i love these little things
"ey bruh leave that robot alone man, he workin"
But i mean it was made to deliver us food, and not steal our hearts, way too cute ❤
if we have this technology then why aren’t big retailers using this during lockdown to deliver food to vulnerable people????
Seeing this makes me happy 😭😭😄good robot
damn, this little robot is a cutie
Cuteee polite little robot
Notice how he thought it was opened from the front 1:13
more people to the unemployement line. but hay "progress"
how does it handle crosswalks ?
Ive seen on wait for a green light. Not sure how it handles crosswalks with no traffic lights.
it can be controlled remotely at the command center if it gets stuck..
can't find any evidence that these have ever been deployed in Denmark. And they're also problematic because our laws about autonomous vehicles are a bit convoluted (basically it's not allowed on public streets).
I assure you they have been deployed. I live in a major US city and we have them here. The first time I saw one was last night and it was so wild it was just trucking on down the sidewalk that is actually what prompted me to search for this video. Iinterestingl, the other pedestrians weren't even looking at it which tells me they've grown used to seeing the robot so it's been here a while.
Knowing what sort of people exist, I don't think things like these will be able to exist.
As soon as I saw this robot and what it is supposed to do, my first reaction was - vandalism, theft, etc.
Until people's behaviour changes, such things won't last long.
That's a good argument for a special moon base. One where all the people that exhibit anti social, anti technological behavior can go and live in chaos together.
@@DaveWard-xc7vdgood riddance, Id be happy seeing vandalised remnents of this delivery robot scattered indiscriminately about
In South Africa these would be stolen
After the 1st 100 units have been kicked into the Thames or vandalized, the pizza shops are going to think twice about this.

Being monitored
Well I guess people cant be generally reasonable everywhere in the world.
According to the Starship website, the robot has 12 cameras. So the person kicking it into the Thames can be identified and subsequently fined and/or imprisoned for destroying private property@@thelaw3536
i have to watch this for my lego tug of war project Xs
how is it going to go to the 12th floor in a apartment when a customer wants it in his door?
I think the point is that the delivery with robots are potentially cheaper, so you can pay extra for the 12th floor delivery or save some money and go down 12 floors.
These robots usually won't deliver direct to your door. I suppose if you want that you would just have to go for the regular humanoid delivery option. I'm guessing that this option will be cheaper, especially for short distances.
Flying drones will tap on your 12th floor window.
@@Uhmu it only saves money for company. Customers will do most of work. Think about gas stations, groceriy stores, fast food price have not went down. You bag, ring, pump your gas and price have not went down.
program it to roll on the left. or on the right if youre.. i dont know the pedestrian rules in the uk..
When will this be active I wonder, just about power bank at the vehicle, then autocharge at parking spot, sync with elevator for going up and down?
The belief of i.r.c is still "not believed of the existence" to use as ordering point that shopkeeper read immediately to place the items ordered - address, name(next order confirmation code?) like banked into the shop to deduct there?
In the future those robots will learn how to fight back so no one steals from them
It works in the usa
this is the next year. where are you?
Let's see it handle a real winter like we get here in Canada then I will be impressed.
Developed in Estonia, nearly same climate.
@@ViruDroon not even close
People calling the robot cute 🙈🤣
same here toasty
Cool
Good, but it needs the ability to use elevators, and additionally, it seems rather slow, to the extent that it appeared to be blocking people's access along the pavement. Speed it up by 50-75% and deal with the elevator problem and you're onto a winner, otherwise, I'm not too sure...

3:45 typical tech founder over hyping his crap invention
This will not work in my neighborhood
what if someone robs that :D
It has a tracker
And they said in future versions it will have an alarm if someone tries to take it
That's just a novelty ... the domino and Ford self driving cars delivering pizza are on point; they're gonna be just as quick as a driver.. Well, maybe slightly slower if it were moped.. but it's only a matter of time till self driving mopeds come along... or drones.
never seen it
I seen one
What's stopping someone from lifting the lid and nicking the food en route? I mean , that's south London!
It's locked. The person who ordered whatever it is has to text a code to either the shop or the robot to unlock it.
Sp cute 🥺🥺🥺🥺
i want one with a seat and a gps
TAKE ME AWAY ROBO BOY
UM... where's MINE?
and best part don't have to TIP IT :p
Less jobs eh? But oh it does not matter it's "cute".
That it will be very useful to not virus speread between the people's 🇬🇧🇬🇧❤

It’s a tripping hazard! Besides in Anerica it’s against the law for bicycles or skate boards to be on sidewalks.
No that’s not against the law in most places in the USA. Stupid loser old man.
Great information 🚚💪🚚🥑🍏🍅 future put less jobs 🫵🏼 for people to live 👂🏻
A fun concept, it's pretty cool how it asked to pass. I do wonder what the liabilities are if someone accidentally trips over one of these. I hope it works out though, and these little guys go on delivery food without too much issue.
in Europe, generally if you trip over something that's clearly visible it's your own fault
Uh, listening and spying devices designed as dual purpose and made so cute EVERYBODY LOVES THEM. 🙄 Wake up people. Alexa on steroids.

This will never come to a city like LA or NY. The rep is a SJW type (believes an alarm or intervention will deter theft). I live in LA and this will never be. Trust. An alarm will not support safety for this robot. You need to attach a shock device or ability to shoot anyone that touches it (crazy but true). I would only support /invest in drone delivery. SJW's need to live in a real world, not the imaginary digital one that most techtards live.
I'd love to see one of these riding around in the country they'd be shot at just for fun
