  • Your online delivery habit is facing a growing problem: the rising number of packages needing delivery, combined with a projected deficit in truck drivers (PDF). But that's the issue a company like Starship Technologies is trying to solve. It just started testing a delivery robot in US cities (though the company has been overseas for a few years, already) and is hoping both its design and cost win over any skeptics worried about a robot that knows where they live and what kind of food they like.
Don't miss the next episode of Future IRL on March 7th, when we'll be looking at the future of virtual reality.

Enjoyed this video. Would like to see more like this. I'd be surprised if those rolling robots made it through the sidewalks of Chicago. I can imagine them being ok in some areas but not everywhere. Like that guy at the end I prefer that my mail is delivered by a person as well.

What's going to happen is they're going to install hyperloop-style delivery systems to every address, and all deliveries will be by tube.

    2 problems:
    1. That 6-wheel ground drone is slow.
    2. Almost anyone with bad intentions can just pick up and steal that robot. Problems will get worse with ground delivery drones.

too dobious solution. If it would be neuron network that can avoid any non-standard situation on the street it could be resources eater. So modern li-ion/li-pol betteries won't be enough. There are traffic lights, speedy drivers, drunk people, working days crowding on the street and many of common factors do it unusful for big cities.

Difficult to work unless the inventor comes out in way where he can fix few problems such as goods getting stolen while the robot is on the way to delever, robot itself gets stolen,it's to slow, payment collection for the delever n etc etc...... But I hope this problem are sorted soon & robotic delevery becomes possible.....so Good Luck

Just what we need more lost jobs. Also, you have to be there to get your own package. I remember when you could pull up to a gas station and a gas station attendant came out and pumped your gas, checked your oil and cleaned the windows, and took the payment for your gas and brought you the change. Then came the self serve pumps and now we have to do it all ourselves. Not to mention the loss of those service jobs. We are moving backwards not forward with some of this stuff. No thanks.

4TheMostHighJesus with the same logic then we should also mourn about all the petal-makers who lost their jobs because of the cars.. or the people telephone ladies who were connecting you in the phone center with the person you wanted to speak to.
