    In defense of Frozen Heart and Ardent I’d say that they could be viable in some extreme niche situations (although it was written, it wasn’t presented as such). A comp that heavily relies on AAs would justify Ardent. An enemy comp (mainly AD AA based) that likes to always flank could justify Frozen Heart since our combo would have to go to one of two (or more) options.

      I still don't really like Ardent but I see your point THO I don't agree still. Frozen Heart gets a bit interesting where the effect is the ONLY one of its kind. It is the defacto counter to some champions who attack a lot like Vayne where HP and armor aren't as big of a nerf. Granted his point still stands but if you're in a game where you're the only one that can and you need Frozen Heart I'd argue you can prob sin and build super tanky and stay in the fight long enough to keep the aura up. On top of that, it does give a MASSIVE amount of haste to the point Renata builds it just for the raw stats and haste. Assuming you have Virtue you're already getting a lot of HP so it's not horrible. You do have to do a LOT to make it work. But in cases like Vayne HP scales her damage and armor doesn't reduce true damage so the main solution is reducing their auto damage and attack speed.

    So here's the thing: you say Ardent Censer is bad because you aren't applying it when it's needed (during engage). But have you considered Font of Life? I always go Resolve second on Rakan because of how easily he can apply Font of Life (especially with Glacial Augment). You knock up/charm, and any allies that follow up are healed, and any amount of healing will apply Ardent Censer! You can get insane value from enchanter items as Rakan in teamfights so long as you get a knockup or charm or glacial slow.

    Hi! I like trying new items with rakan, and i once played some games with winter's aproach. I mostly say this item is bad but i think it made a good synergy with rakan's set. I must say i played as a tank with evenshroud. Let me know what u think of these two items

    • @FeatherDaddy
      @FeatherDaddy  Před rokem +1

      This was way longer than intended, just didn't want to leave anything out!
      TL;DR - Winter's Approach
      Winter's Approach is actually pretty good, almost made the list of good items, just barely didn't because tear is a bad gold and item slot investment early, and you need to buy it early because you need to stack it so you can use the strong Fimbulwinter.
      TL;DR - Evenshroud
      Good item, just not fantastic like Shurelya's and Radiant Virtue. Evenshroud always does something worth WAY worse than one of these two options while not making up for it. If you like Evenshroud for it's cheap price or utility, go Shurelya's because it's offers way more utility at the same price. If you like Evenshroud for it's tankiness, go Radiant, which actually makes you tanky unlike Evenshroud while also providing good utility.
      Winter's Approach~
      Let's start with the positives:
      After it's recent buffs, I absolutely considered beginning to purchase the item in situations where the opposing team had an evenly split team comp in terms of physical and magic damage since the item gives a ton of raw health through stats and the shield but no armour or magic resist specifically (which is usually fine against split damage comps because you already have a bit of armour and magic resist from Radiant Virtue).
      Also, Rakan uniquely stacks tear quite quickly in comparison to most other champions since BOTH casts of his E give 6 mana.
      I'll be honest, it's not even bad on Rakan and was really close in being included in the "viable flex items" list, in fact it absolutely could have taken the place of Gargoyle Stoneplate as the tank itemization purchase versus split damage comps.
      With the positives out of the way, let's talk about why I ultimately didn't include it over Gargoyle Stoneplate. The issue with Winter's Approach is a couple things:
      1, Investing 400 gold towards tear early on, an item you don't need (I get into why in the second reason), instead of tier 2 boots, which Rakan desperately needs to engage, roam, and have cooldowns that aren't completely ridiculous, is a bad investment. Especially since 400 gold is just about half the cost of Lucidity Boots. Even in a scenario where you have 700 gold, not enough for the 950 Lucidity boots, but enough for boots + tear, I would rather purchase boots + ruby crystal for consistent safety, or a boots + potion + control ward so I can take an earlier back and Lucidity Boots even faster. It's hard to justify the early investment when you just don't need the item.
      2. The reason why Rakan doesn't need tear is because despite Rakan's bottom-of-the-barrel mana/mana regen stats in comparison to other enchanters, Rakan still doesn't need additional mana in 99% of cases. To put it plainly: Rakan should almost never be running out of mana because there aren't that many situaions in which engaging on Rakan (especially in the early game), is a good idea, because keep in mind: if you aren't engaging with Rakan you shouldn't be running out of mana. Rakan's only goal in 90% of early games is simply to survive and get level 6, or make impactful early roams, both of which require little mana and which Rakan can benefit more by investing into a ruby crystal instead of tear or straight up just into Lucidity Boots. Even in the 10% of games where you have a strong combo lane, usually you're not engaging so often that you need a tear to continue engaging because the idea is that the enemy team is not going to give you that many opportunities to engage and/or if you kill them, you regen mana while they are running back to lane where you can kill them again. If you are running oom in lane (the place where you are most likely to run out of mana for Rakan), likely you are spamming Q too much in situations where you shouldn't be, which is ultimately more of a skill issue rather than build issue.
      3. Also, a small last thing as well, tear takes up an item slot, and frankly with boots, a support item, control wards, potions, commencing stopwatch from runes and components for your items, you really don't have an extra spot to make room for an item you really don't need. This, and reason 1 are both generally the same reasoning why I don't recommend dark seal as well.
      Thankfully, the Evenshroud explanation is much simpler. Rakan does engage and proc Evenshroud consistently, and it's a good item on Rakan, the problem is, it's good, not fantastic. When Rakan already has fantastic options, it doesn't make sense to build something that is only good and passable. Ultimately, you lose so much utility just for the two intended purposes of being tanky and increasing damage of your ally follow up.
      The issue is though, you really aren't tanky. 200 health is not enough to compensate for 30 armour and magic resist, which frankly, is not a ton. Radiant compensates for its 30 armour and MR with a ton of raw health from item itself and the mythic passive, but Evenshroud does not compensate enough to make up for it's 200 health pool, the 5 extra armour + MR per item compensates enough. It's a tank item that doesn't even make you meaningfully tanky, which is half of the reason you would even purchase the item.
      The damage increase is nice and definitely the star here and it's really good! However it pales in comparison to the other utility provided by the two meta options: Shurelya's and Radiant Virtue. Shurelya's is the same price, yet has so much crazy synergy with Rakan and offers so much more utility in comparison to Evenshroud that it's an embarassing comparison between the two, so much so that it's not a comparison at all. As for Radiant Virtue, it does what Evenshroud wishes it could do: Make you really tanky while also giving your team a good chunk of utility. Where Evenshroud fails as a tank item, Radiant makes up for it greatly, with much a greater raw health stat and a much better mythic passive along with getting increased health and healing on engages, once again, it's not even a comparison between the two because Radiant is so much better as a tank item than Evenshroud. The utility offered by Radiant surpasses that of Evenshroud as well, not by much, but definitely surpasses it in my opinion. The idea is that whoever Rakan ults, your team should be killing regardless of having Evenshroud's damage increase or not, so you would rather have other utility than just a damage increase. Obviously this doesn't always work out, and that's why Evenshroud is good, but once again, just not fantastic.
      Hope this 100 page long comment helps!

      @@FeatherDaddy Thanks for your reply! It was really helpfull! Got to say that I started using evenshroud because half a year ago was my favorite item for engage/tank supports (and the only one besides solari, which i didn´t like) and i used to consider rakan as a mini-tank. That was the time when I tryed the Winter's approach.
      Later I discovered rakan was being played with shurelya, and when I tested it I realised it was a great item, but still prefered the tank version of Rakan. The moment the new tank items were revealed and I saw the Radiant Virtue I instantly thought it would be the absolute replacement for evenshroud on almost every tank support.

    omg I completely disagree with the Ardent Censer, actually I think that's the perfect item for Rakan, it not only increase the attack speed, but it will increase also the shield and heal (in 8%) combined with the Revitalize rune, it will be even better, and also the extra magic damage. Since you have 2 E's to use, in my opinion it would be more effective then Knight's Vow

    • @FeatherDaddy
      @FeatherDaddy  Před rokem +1

      If there truly was a scenario in which Ardent was even viable, I would have presented it as such just like I did in the Zeke's section. In the Zeke's section, where although I talk much about how Zeke's is awful with Rakan and basically just a worse Knight's Vow overall, I do mention specifically of a scenario where Zeke's actually is a more optimal choice than other item options. This is because not only is Zeke's viable in that situation, but in this very specific scenario, for an extremely specific purpose, Zeke's actually (for once) excels and manages to contribute something not offered by other item choices in that scenario.
      The reason why this is relevant is because there is no scenario in which Ardent Censer excels in such a way that it’s now better than alternative item options. Ardent Censer can be potentially be, at most, **viable** in very specific scenarios, emphasis on the word viable. In other words, Ardent Censer does not excel beyond other consistent item choices even in the most specific of scenarios where it can be utilized at its highest effectiveness. There is no point in settling for something barely viable in a perfect scenario that seldom happens when there are more consistent item purchases that are always stronger (such as Redemption), or other items that do require a condition to be met first (such as Mikaels vs teams with potent single target CC), but yet are so much stronger when that condition is met and also have a much more applicable, common, and easy condition to be met in the first place.
      In a perfect scenario with Ardent Censer where you have 4 teammates who all auto attack plenty, I would opt in for Redemption every single time instead. Although Rakan has several methods of applying Ardent Censer to his allies, which in theory is why it's not completely terrible, Rakan does not consistently apply it to his allies when it counts. When does it count? When Rakan is engaging and locking down targets. Rakan is not a peel-based champion, he is an engage champion, and as such looks for enticing angles to engage on large groups of enemies or just on one high priority target. Let's be honest, in 9/10 scenarios, assuming you are playing Rakan in an optimal way, these engages go one of two ways, either 1: you land a crazy good engage and your teammates either immediately (or shortly after) burst down the target(s) you engaged on, or 2: You mess up, don't kill anybody, and probably die. You'll note that in both of these scenarios, Ardent Censer is essentially never being utilized at all because someone (either you or the enemy team member(s) are getting bursted and killed. During this time of engage--the most crucial moment for Rakan in any given game, at most Rakan will realistically shield a single ally in his engage combo of R -> E -> W, and another ally on the way back after recasting E. However, because you are looking to burst enemy champions and end fights in an instant, it really doesn't matter at all that you shield an ally and apply Ardent on the way out, so let's not even consider that as effective, because it isn’t. As for shielding the single ally on the way in though, (which is only if you happen to use that engage combo that includes an E use), let's even say this single ally is a Tryndamere, which is very generous, seeing as he is a champion who could be realistically standing in front of Rakan (an ADC wouldn't be) and who also auto attacks a tremendous amount. The extra attack speed being given from Ardent Censer is not being used long enough to give your Tryndamere, or really any ally, any "extra auto attacks", or in other words, auto attacks they would not have been able to achieve without the extra attack speed from Ardent. In reality, this Tryndamere has purchased a decent amount of attack speed already, and honestly, is this Tryndamere, in the middle of the fight, really going to stop and use his 200 IQ brain and realize that "Wow! With this increased attack speed, now I can auto attack slightly faster, which means that I must slightly adjust my auto attack kiting style to utilize this small increase in attack speed to increase my DPS!" Absolutely not. In fact, I'm willing to bet your Tryndamere didn't even notice that you bought the item, and he sure won't change up how much of a delay he's waiting between auto attacks to utilize an increase in his attack speed even if he did notice, because all this guy is thinking about is how he needs to get through this game without getting another chat restriction or how he NEEDS to engage right this instant because the beat is about to drop in the song he's listening to on his Mom's family Spotify plan. And even in the off chance that this Tryndamere does notice the Ardent Censer buff, he is going to play the exact same way as before anyways. Only when a champion is standing still and continuously auto attacking without kiting between each auto attack does the attack speed increase from Ardent Censer actually start to impact how much a champion is truly auto attacking, but this will never happen, because literally every good player kites due to it being one of the most important mechanics in all of League. All of this suffice to say: No, your Tryndamere won't get any value from Ardent Censer's attack speed buff due to kiting existing in the game (and being as important as it is) and also because even if Tryndamere can stand still and constantly auto attack a CC'd target from Rakan's engage, he is going to kill that person in literally 3 or 4 auto attacks, all within a matter of a couple seconds at most, meaning he's not getting any "extra auto attacks" off either. Which means all your Ardent Censer is doing besides wasting your money, is applying on-hit damage, and I hate that I even have to bring up the magic damage from Ardent Censer, but let's do it. Let's once again be super generous and say Tryndamere is level 18, meaning he gets the full 20 magic damage off from each auto attack. Let's say this target is a level 16 ranged ADC with no additional magic resist--the most optimal target for this magic damage. With 49 magic resist, what pretty much every ranged ADC has at level 16, they would reduce Ardent's 20 magic damage by 32%, down to 13.6 magic damage per auto attack. Now, we all know this Tryndamere is going to kill that ADC within 3 or 4 auto attacks pretty easily, which means the damage from Ardent Censer--the item you invested your low-income into, just dealt about 41 or 51 magic damage, respectively for 3 or 4 auto attacks. 50 magic damage for 2300 gold.
      1/2 (comment was too long)

    • @FeatherDaddy
      @FeatherDaddy  Před rokem +1

      I did not speak of any bit of viability for Ardent Censer specifically due to people getting the wrong picture and thinking that Ardent Censer, an item that realistically gives your teammates *in it's most optimal and likely scenario for Rakan,* 50 magic damage, is worth it. It's not. When Rakan is playing optimally, diving, locking down and burst targets, Ardent Censer is completely useless. If the only win condition is peeling because your ADC is the only fed person, Knight's Vow will be a much superior option in terms of playing to 2v8 with your ADC. And if you're trying to purchase Ardent Censer because your whole team auto attacks when you don't even apply it to your allies with Rakan's most optimal playstyle of engaging and bursting targets anyways, then just purchase literally anything else and it will be better. Ardent can be a viable item with other peel-based supports who have plentiful auto attackers as their teammates, but because Rakan isn't a peel-based support, it literally just doesn't function unless you play Rakan in a sub-optimal way to make use of an item that is viable at best, which ultimately leaves you at a massive disadvantage as opposed to just playing optimally without an item that forces you to do things that don't make sense with the champion's playstyle.
      Also as a last note, obviously Ardent is more useful against tanks and other targets that you can auto attack plenty of times to utilize the Ardent Censer attack speed and magic damage bonus, but because Rakan once again doesn't peel against these targets, and is specifically looking to target squishy, high priority targets that deal lots of damage (in other words, not tanks), then those are the targets your teammates are going to target and use Ardent Censer against. Additionally, I should mention the stats are quite decent. 60 AP with high AP ratios is nice and extra heal/shield power is nice for comboing with Glacial and also because Rakan has several heals/shields in his kit which are already being bolstered by the 60 AP. The 60 AP is either going towards utility or damage. Damage on support Rakan in the mid-late game (the time in the game that you will complete this item) is completely useless since no matter how much you increase your damage by you will never be able to accomplish anything without your team, and if you’re playing around your team, you don’t need to deal damage at all since they will have the damage covered. The extra utility from the 60 AP is definitely more enticing, but once again, Rakan is a diving champion, not a peeling champion. This means in most cases you will die when you engage anyway (especially if you’re building Ardent and not a tank item) and in the off-chance that you survive, having a buffed version of your shield that puts you in harms way and a buffed low-range Q that a lot of champions can punish easily just isn’t worth while. Even if you increase Rakan’s utility, it’s not going to be good enough to turn him into a peeling champion, because his utility is just “extra health” through a shield and heal that are both sub-optimal anyways, especially in comparison to other champions like Lulu who offer so much more for peeling than Rakan. It’s not that the stats on Ardent are bad, in fact I think the stats are quite good, but having good stats that don’t even realistically do a whole lot for Rakan is not enough to justify having an item with a borderline useless effect.
      I'm definitely not trying to trick or deceive anyone. Sometimes the truth just isn’t as fun. This item simply isn't good for one reason or another. If you want to build it in normals anyways because you like it though, then that’s awesome! League is ultimately about having fun anyways! I'm simply just offering the best possible advice for winning games on Rakan.
      Also you should definitely be running secondary domination for ultimate hunter instead of secondary resolve for revitalize, assuming you are already running Glacial (inspiration) as your primary tree, of course (which you definitely should be)!
      Anyway, hope this was insightful and doesn't come off rude, stay rad 🤙
