I think it's because the notes and the load screens still convey his thoughts and perspective very well, but in-game it's more his actions and his sense of duty where he acts without comment or complaint as you press on with him. Even when faced with horror and the unknown, he doesn't quip or even show fear, even if he is clearly scared, but instead does what he thinks needs to be done and continues on,, no matter what.

Metro is a game that I will always support. Exodus renewed my hopes that the devs want to return to the storytelling of 2033. There are many little stories left unnswered from the books and 2033 (submarines, tank village, cannibal tribe station, metro 2 tunnels) Alas we got to see them return as hints. Sams story and two colonels really shows how good this game can be. Though its surprising there was not a dlc for retrieving the snow plow. If we get another game. I suspect we will follow Sam to America. I'm curious to see more of this universe. Though I really believe the game should stay to the dark tunnels of the metro.

Disagree; Two entire games were focused on the Metro as well as the beginning part of the third game. At that point, it kinda gets old; Stick to the outside world for now, though the story WILL head back to the Metro eventually to take out the Invisible Watchers as the writers are clearly implying.

Fun fact: in the books ( which I guess are canon over the games ) the red line wins the war against the fourth Reich...
When the fourth Reich has artyom captive they try to do a push to annex the theatre station but the red line launches a massive counter attack. Afterwards the red line troops move through lubyanka station and push towards pushinskaya station ( essentially the Nazis capital, because it's where they started first as a power ). They tried to block tunnels, the reds just pushed through, defences got overrun, units were being swarmed and so in an attempt to save themselves from a now inevitable defeat they flooded the line between Lubyanka and pushinskaya. Unfortunately for them however, this had the reverse effect they wanted. The red line troops were fine, the fourth Reich however, proceeded to have all three of their stations flooded and have to be abandoned essentially giving control of all three of them to the red line.
So like military ways ( most of their soldiers either died in the flooding or were captured ) or governmental ways ( the fuhrer and his top leaders fled ) the fourth Reich has collapsed and no longer exists.

Edit: I remember hearing something from Last Light or 2033. But the civil war between the communist and fascist would be beneficial to the Metro. As it would kill lots of mouths to feed. It was little things like that helped make the games so good.

It was April 2010 when my grandfather was hospitalized and died a week later. I was visiting him in the hospital, I took a break for a bit and visited the internet cafe when I saw this game's trailer recommended by CZcams. I was a Call of Duty addict back then so Metro 2033's idea and gameplay was mindblowing to me back then and I vividly remember getting excited for this game. Damn, what a nostalgia hit, games in the early 2010s were something else.

Even compared to the story of the books, Metro Exodus is my favorite. The time you can spend with your fellow Spartans on the train really draws you into the narrative and makes you care about them and that is great motivation for the gameplay for me.

The lack of/minimal HUD from the first game set a trend that the industry has largely taken note of for the better. Nothing takes me out of a game like having a bunch of stuff plastered all over it. Having stuff you carry actually be a hud replacement was a smart move in terms of design and it's something I adore when other games do. Make the knobs, buttons, and screens in a spaceship mean something. Instead of my character just knowing the time, give them a watch. Instead of them just knowing the layout of every area around them, give them a physical map to pull out. All those little details allow me to suck myself on further than if they were just put on the screen 24/7. It also give you more space to wander, explore, and actually focus on what's in front of you instead of staring at the HUD. Its something a lot of open world games still massively struggle with.

That the Spartan Order, though they are extremely good people and are a beacon for all of the metro, are still only people, and their endless mantra to protect what they love with tooth and claw only ends up killing untold numbers of those which only ever wished to be understood.
I think one of the great things about metro is that it is extremely even handed and down to earth when it comes to depicting real people with all the ideals and flaws that they have. That there are many sides to the same story, and the thin line of understanding that can seperate the view between hero and murderer.

I shed a tear but it didn’t make me cry as much as Moscow and Novosibirsk Dead City apocalypse flashbacks in view of the missiles launching and other payloads detonating; The pilots of an airliner screaming “I don’t wanna die” in the arguably best one did it for me.

That was so cool. I'm glad I finally know the story of Metro, and I already ordered the first book. You did an amazing job at telling the story, and I could have watched and listened for hours more. Thank you so much, you rock!
