this is not a prototype, this is a mod. The Chinese modify US model IP15s to have sim cards using pins on the side.

Huh I just checked it out, interesting compromise between milling a SIM card slot and just soldering the SIM reader back on to the logic board.
But it doesn't look as simple as the 14 Pro/Max where there was just a plastic block in place of where the SIM reader would be in international models. The US SIM-less iPhones have a completely different logic board design where the SIM card slot would normally be.
Maybe to connect an apple pencil to the pins of the prototype iPhone 15
Yeah, and the extra stuff in the status bar looks like someone took a screenshot of a screenshot of a screenshot with the status bar still visible. Why? Who knows.
Interesting but that doesn't explain the build number and other things in the menu bar? Is there a way to get that on a release version of IOS?

The strangest thing I had come across was a listing for a coffin...slightly used. This was like 15 or so years ago on eBay but yes it was a coffin and it was used as a display for some people who would later cremate the person. When you are cremated it is often placed in a cardboard box.

I just had one this week actually. I bought a Galaxy S20 FE that was claimed to have a non working display for $30 US. It came a few days ago, and I plugged it into the charger only to find out the screen actually did work! I turn it on as well to also discover it’s a global version of the phone on Verizon & is locked. But the craziest thing was it still had the original seller’s eBay account & Gmail account STILL LOGGED IN! Luckily it was a chain pawn shop I could easily get the phone number to & let them know of the situation & factory reset the phone so their stuff was no longer on it. But hey, I’ll gladly take a perfectly functioning S20 FE with a perfectly good display for $30 any day!

A sealed iPhone 5 16gb on ios 6, the man that was selling it had absolutely no idea and took it out of the box and updated it to ios 10 so it could be more "functional" It happened like a week ago :(

The FB marketplace is a wild west, i once bought a complete in box first gen MacBook for $50, then the next day another listing sell 2010 "vintage" MacBook for $350, another listing sold an entire warehouse stock full of unsold Chinese knock off cellphone from 2000s for 50 grand, yes, sold, someone though its a good idea to buy about twenty thousand pieces of e-waste for three dollar each

Ebay's "crazy" filter crashed year & years ago! I think they actually like hosting crazy sellers - more fees for them to collect and it gets more traffic to their platform!
Sometimes I think those high priced items are just there to trick people that use sniping or automatic purchasing services if something specific they like pops up.
Probably the strangest thing I came across on eBay was a iPod touch 2 that had a hole near where the camera is on prototype iPod touch 3’s. It also didn’t show up in the AppleCare database so I bought it immediately; it doesn’t seem to be a prototype, chances are it’s a QA unit, still cool considering I paid US$12 for it.
Hugh should turn this into a series. I can definitely see it getting more wild in the future

I heard somewhere that the pins on the side of the iPhone 15 actually made it to production in some countries and it pairs with a case that adds a sim slot. Just from memory, I don’t know for sure.

The craziest thing I found once was an iMac g3. Seller said “I’ll give it to you for ten bucks, it smokes when turned on.”
I'm constantly buying replacement cases for games so I can have clean looking games, it's a weird thing to alot of people I know. But the best thing I've seen is someone selling "genuine PS4 games cases" that are clearly just FIFA cases from a second hand store for 4-8 times the price of the game

I once bought a super rare iPod 5th gen with a ‘national semiconductor the sight of sound and information’ engraving on it on a chinese website. Upon further research me I found out that only 8500 were made with that special engraving.
I had to replace the battery twice, and I even had to replace the battery management IC on the motherboard (board level micro soldering repair), but it was worth it
What does National Semiconductor have to do with iPods? Or will they just engrave any old thing on an iPod to make it "collectible"?

There's something so cool and interesting about prototypes especially tech ones to me. Shame there isn't a lot of good content on them.
Strangest deal I found was when I was looking for memory modules for my classic Mac Pro. Someone on FB Marketplace advertised some of the type I wanted, at 8 GB, for just $10 each. I agreed to buy four and went to see them. It was in an inner-city office where a business was vacating. Office equipment and computer parts were strewn all over the room; they were clearly eager to leave as fast as possible.
When I noticed they had more such modules on offer, they said "How about eight modules for $50?"
My eyes light up.
"And we'll add this Apple Pro Keyboard as well."
And that's how my Mac Pro now sports 64 GB of memory, plus a new keyboard, for just $50. Comparing prices for similar modules on eBay, I effectively got eight for the price of two. May we all find sellers so desperate.

Back then they would go for 40-60$

I've seen a lot of brain-melting listings on Facebook. Like one for "Mechanical parts board" with a photo that looked like it could be the entire inside of medical appliance, with pumps, tubing and circuit boards, in what looked a bit like a PC case. I have so many questions!
Well this seems to be the strangest buy I’ve seen.
II came across a listing of three Sony Ericsson prototypes for about 13 USD, including an Xperia play prototype. I was the only bidder and i got them all.

A vehicle in compton absolutely destroyed, the government was asking $10 for it, seriously no one in california would buy it for parts since its that worthless old and destroyed and in a sus area. Though the most strangest was an actual emissions testing for the state, yes an emissions testing for vehicles, bid on one until I found out you need to sign transfer of property and I backed off.
My iPod video from 2007ish is still working, all original, minimal scratching because it spent its entire life in a hard Belkin case, I still have the original box and manual, the earbuds are gone, I wonder how much it's worth.
6:56 Gorenje WA65145 washing machine. Those are really rare and that is the strangest and rarest thing I found in my country. I live close to Slovenia (the place where they're made) but they are still rare. An other one is a really old but brand new Hungarian made Hajdu washer. I didn't get it. But I also found an old iPhone 4S 64GB and was never used. It's box and paperwork was missing. It was for a price of 2 used iPhone 4S 16GB models. Again, I didn't get it.

This iPhone 15 is a Chinese mod. The reseller imported the E-sim only, locked iPhone from the States, however the grey market price dropped significantly, and ppl just modded the phone by “implanting” a physical sim inside the phone and sold it in half price. If you can bear the risk, you can get a modded iphone 15/pro for about US $550 or even cheaper.
The reason ipods have become trendy is pretty dank...

Most overpriced thing I've seen online lately is a particular model of device that's important to a community I'm in. It's a weather alert radio from about 20 years ago that in actuality is worth probably $40 US, but because someone bought one at this price, they are now consistently listed on eBay and not selling for anywhere from $800 to $1,200, and as a result no one can get them anymore.

Accidentally poking a hole in a lithium battery with a screwdriver is a mistake i will hopefully only make once. It's quick, dirty, violent, and there isn't much you can do about it. That one looks like it was closed when the battery cooked off.

the strangest thing id have to say i bought was a lot of 25 iphones ranging from the iphones 6,7,se and one 8 and 5 and a couple of trash screens and two xs max housings i paid $40 and while there was many good parts and i thought it was cheap i hadn’t realized the seller repaired phones themselves and resold them so after getting them i discovered that they were all icloud locked and most of them didnt have many good parts because they had been salvaged of about anything good of the 4 iphone 7s 3 of the boards were no good and there was no good batterys of the 4 iphone se and one eight none of them had a functioning motherboard their was 3 6s plus only one turned on and there was 4 iphone 7 only one had a good motherboard once again so the seller knew the motherboard in most of them were dead and salvaged most of the good batterys and screens so while probably worth what i paid definitely not a bargain

I’ve found half a grilled cheese for free on Craigslist before.
The only thing worth buying on that list was the iPhone 15 with the pins on the side, as that would have been intriguing as to why they do that. Everything else, including the burned iPhone, was not worth it. If someone destroyed their phone by removing the battery, then the battery was held in with far too much glue.
Oh i know that feeling.... seeing a garbage phone lot with a pricetag beyond the 100€ and im just shaking my head in disbelief.
