"How To Be Me" by the two of them also by them "Chalk Outlines". This song is a landmark moment in music history. There are almost no other single songs that are as impressive and important as this one. It's made me reconsider what I used to think was 'great music'. I saw Pink Floyd on the Division Bell Pulse tour, so I can't say this is the greatest thing I've ever seen, but it's definitely up there somewhere. Music is funny like that - how often we think we just witnessed greatness - but this one I feel confident in my proclamation. Genius work.

I’ve watched and sometimes commented on some of your previous videos but your open and honest reaction to Hi Ren just earned my subscription. 😊 If you do Sick Boi, keep in mind that it’s short but very intense, so buckle up for that one. To see the story telling skills that Ren has, you could react to “The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full version). It also has the Tale of Violet as the third part of the story trilogy. Each is related to the other but I won’t give away any surprises. It’s a bit longer but we’ll worth the time and showcases some of REN’s insane guitar skills. Welcome to the world of Ren, you’ll have a blast.❤
I love the reaction from both of you. I haven't read the comments, but did anyone notice the dog just appear when Ren starts to sing about hope and rising up? As a dog lover, I found it perfect.
This was a beautiful reaction, thank you for your analysis at the end, I truly believe that everybody can relate to the inner struggle that is portrayed in this song, and I love that you pointed out that at the end Ren stood out of his chair and put down his guitar and stayed on his own two feet, representing that he had come out of the other side of an inner issue. From what I have heard Ren has had quite a rough ride and is currently going through a lot with his mental and physical health as I am sure alot of people can relate to these days, we must remember that life is this eternal dance of highs and low's and that it is charging through our struggles and coming out the other side is what makes life meaningful. Loved the reaction, I suggest checking out Ren's three part trilogy the tale of Jenny and Screech all in one video, another amazing performance by Ren 😊
I just discovered this guy on Saturday, and I'm blown away by his stuff. I too have struggled with these types of mental health issues, and he brings life to it in a very creative way.
A genius piece of work. Nice commentary too. There are some us that watch all your videos, and I’m sure you’ll get new viewers with new artists too. Don’t forget, you guys have friends here through CZcams. You definitely do, and we care about Joe too.
this is not fighting or curing mental illness, its about acceptance and coping with the thought processes and handling it in a way to move forward. Ren suffers Lyme disease that was not diagnosed for 10yrs hence the wheelchair and subsequent health problems since...immense respect to Ren and Wolf, i find mental health easier and more relatable from a person who has, and still is going through it, as opposed to a professional who can point in the right direction but has no knowledge of the emotions and thoughts.
I had a stroke just before Christmas and have other issues. Since finding this song 2 weeks ago, I have come off diazipam (opiate in the UK) and dropped one other pil. Go watch other people react, everyone opens up, we all have that voice inside of us. You'd like the screech and jenny trilogy. Ren does some excellent rap, loosing it is my favourite. I shot the sherif busking is brilliant, he's multi talented. Go easy on yourself dude, stop listening to the ass clown in your head. Watch people react, you can never watch this for fhe first time again, that's why I'm here, it's a drug in itself, but a good one.
Thank you so much Sue for your attention to this performance. It's so important. Ren has done so much to awaken people to illness of all types, any illness can do terrible things to our minds. I had been watching this for awhile, then a couple days ago I got a phone call from my brother's lady friend that he is now in hospice care in memory care facility. He has dementia and has progressed to a terrible state and it's not looking good for him, he is 83 now. My mother died in her 80's with complications of Alzheimer's. A terrible terrible mind issue.
This was an enjoyable reaction. “Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 5 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of his songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard. His trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion. It needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. It has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up), their busking (street performances), concerts, and their live recordings, are awesome and well worth checking out. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," “War Pigs,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” "War Pigs," "Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive. Ren recently released his single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. As mentioned above, his latest release, “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” is another masterful work.
To clarify...not gone-gone...just away from home, right? Bc it seemed he's been doing much better, physically. Thanks, Jens, for all this info, a guide to follow...you should know how much that's appreciated! I'm an old lady, and life-long metalhead. Can't stand rap or hip hop...but as I do...I stumbled upon this...and loved it. I too, have a chronic health condition, that I don't let define me...but that takes time and work...this song is simply going straight to my "this will make you cry but you'll shake your fist in triumph at the end" top 5 list. Just like that. I've shared it w my therapist...who was also blown away, and thinks she can use it in some way with other patients...and how happy that makes me!
May 15, 2023: Today "Hi Ren" was viewed for the 13 millionth time! (I like to think that thirteen millionth view was my hundredth). I love his Tales Trilogy (Jenny, Screech, Violet,) also Dominoes, and I enjoy The Big Push covers of I Shot the Sheriff, Paint it Black, War Pigs, and more. I haven't been enthralled with an artist for ages.
So glad Amy recommended this. The video has started to go around the reactors and it's great this subject get spoken about. Ren seems very talented. I don't know Amy like you , but we have exchanged some comments in different videos, mainly Tommy ones. As I'vementioned to Suesue I have family member with PTSD and sometimes mental issues so this hits home, but in a good way.
I see you girl! Glad you're here to support the channel, and Ren! I literally was a pain in their butts til they did this. It haunted me for weeks... an accident injured my spine in my 20s, leaving me w chronic pain...I relate to Ren's Rollercoaster of emotions as he sought treatment and things kept failing...then you just make friends with the situation and push on. PTSD is no small thing, either... Ren is bringing so many.ppl together w his music...I'm all in! So nice to see you appreciating it too.
i was absolutely blown away by this video by Ren, you can feel that he has been there, been amid the turmoil. and hell does that come out in that vid, warts and all, yes it was a song, unlike anything else i have ever seen, but like others have said , it was a performance,. blew my mind
...AND THE MORE INTENSE THE LIGHT SHINES THE DARKER THE SHADOWS IT CASTS! I'm an old man and I expect lines like that to come from Dylan Lennon Waits. This young guy is something very special.
Watching Sue being glued immediately, she got the message right away. I watched Wolfman take this experienfe lightly at first then got humbled very quickly and beautifully.
You can SEE Wolfman go from laughing with the playfulness of the song at first (as any musician would), then morph into somber appreciation, reflection…then wonder. When I see a man of his experience react like this I KNOW it’s not just me….that’s the magic of Ren. Great reaction 🙏
As someone that suffered severe depression for over 38 years now i can only say i can see in both of you that you also got your own heavy demons and just remember, you are only human and suffering is part of us, this hits very hard for all of us that suffer some form of mental illness. I know it is easy to say, but don't be afraid of talking about it, it's not weak or shameful, it's human. it is actually really refreshing and tension releasing to talk about your problems, but not just with anyone, talk with someone that you really really trust and really get's it. Coz we really need that more than anything a doctor can say who hasn't experienced it. It's like Ren says, it is an eternal dance and we just need to try and learn how to suffer and find the middle ground and keep dancing because the dark and the light are two parts of the same coin. We are the duality
Wow - sorry it’s taking me so long to respond. Yes, you have to experience it to really understand what it’s like to struggle in these ways. I will pray for you and am so glad we connected ! 💜 Suesue
I'm way late to the party so I doubt anyone ever sees this but let me say this. This is a seriously underappreciated reaction, Wolf with the appreciation of a musician and Sue feeling every lyric. Suggest everyone watch again with one eye on each, it's incredible to witness.
I appreciate your reaction. Ren fan here, now a fan of yours. Liked and subscribed. I was going to recommend some of his material, but honestly he's got so much between his solo material and with his bands Trick The Fox and The Big Push and it's all quality. Be forwarned though, his catalog is both diverse and emotional. *Edit: be sure to check his pinned comments in his videos. He frequently posts lyrics and I believe he may have posted something about his journey in this one.
Ahh, so happy to see new faces here! Sue and Wolfman are simply, good people...this genre is new for them, but I hope you enjoy the fun we all have interacting!
This song has introduced so many people of even an older generation like me coming up on my 60's. I think we can totally understand those struggles. I think we needed this now. I have been I swear in therapy watching people's reactions for days. I've been there, My son took his life. My daughter overdosed. I've lost all of my family & I have really been struggling this last yr. I've started a griefshare "program" not meds but God. I will check you out. I love your dog.
I’m so sorry for your losses! We have a griefshare program at our church and it’s so helpful. As long as there’s breath in our lungs, God’s not done with us yet. Prayers going up for you now 💜
don't know you guys , followed you here on the ren train, glad you are here with me on this, thanks for you honesty, you have a new subscriber, love from London keep safe, keep open and we will do this together xx
What a wonderful reaction and never feel shame or embarrassment for getting emotional. Thank you for being so open and honest. Ren is incredible and he is brilliant at starting conversations about difficult subjects but also at bringing out every emotion possible. He really is a beacon of hope for a lot of us with mental health struggles and also chronic illnesses like myself 🖤
Sue, the intensity of your gaze was... well I flounder attempting to provide adequate description. There was a moment where your entire countenance completely locked in. I believe it is a moment, recorded in time, where the sudden realization of, "Oh wait, this is something really profound. This is..." and you just locked in with a laser focus for the next 3 minutes or so, virtually motionless. A snippet of those 3ish minutes should be clipped and shown to anyone that asks, "Who's Ren?" It perfectly answers the question without any words being required. God bless you both
@@amygoodson-catlady I'm so relieved you removed highlighted reply, thank you, I just wanted to reach out to Wolf, same age, son same age, Dad never loved my music, but I made friends with him in the end, moved in looked after him and he had bought my music... We can be stubborn but age brings wisdom x
I've just recently found your channel through Dirt Miller...via Ren, and now I'm backtracking through your videos. It was really powerful getting to watch you guys hear and see Ren for the first time, and I deeply appreciate everything you shared. Wishing you both the best.
each of us can relate to this in our minds, whether its depression, addictions suvh as alcohol, weed, tobacco, vaping, gambling and so on, i have been addicted to weed and cigarrettes since i was 7, now i'm 60 and 8 years post massive stroke, tobacco tells me smoke one it relaxes you, helps curb your appetite, me they are so bad for me they stink my friends hate em, tobacco they'll get over it you're stressed smoke one just 3 a day, me they're 11 bucks a pack i stink and so on ren is genious listening to this is better than any type of therapy i've had save for driving my wrangler into deathvalley national park no substitute for that
I’m glad you liked this. Thank you Amy for asking them to react to this. The song & it’s meaning is similar & different, to personal life experiences but the words resonate to every generation. Tell the Wolfgang, all he needs is some Just for Men & he COULD BE wolf man Jack!!! Thanx for the reaction.
It's about coming out the other side. I've been so lost and would not eat. Panic attacks galore I couldn't go outside. Thought I would never find peace again.
Ren - Money Game Part 1 & 2, Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines, Ren - Sick Boi, Ren - Jenny's Tale, followed by Screech's Tale, followed by Violet's Tale You won't be sorry doing reaction videos to these songs 👍
Thank you, SueSue and Wolfman, for this very personal and understanding reaction. I'd seen references to this music video in the form of other reactors' thumbnails on YT before, but I'd not yet checked any of them out, till now. Like I told Amy in my reply to her comment here, I was also very much impressed by this young man's performance from seeing your reaction to his music video, and I too feel that the message he is putting out through it, is one that everyone should hear, because its subject matter is inevitably going to affect everybody at some point in their life. I for one can relate to it in more than one way, and I find it to be both inspiring and helpful to my personal situation. With that said, I encourage you guys to continue doing what you're doing, as it's a wonderful journey that the both of you are taking all of us on. Lots of love and best wishes to you both and your son Joe! 💟
@@SueSueandthewolfman You're welcome, Sue, and, thanks for asking. Well, given the circumstances I find myself in at the moment I'm doing reasonably well. It helps that I have Amy to talk to now, she's a real blessing. I guess it's just gonna take some time for me to come to grips with what happened to me, and to hopefully find a new purpose in life. Thanks again and have a great evening!
Enjoyed that, Highly recommend watching Jenny and screech tale. you should go find the full version on his channel. Its 3 songs all relating to eachother in order.. best watched in one sitting. some of the best story telling I have seen in along time.

Ren is amazing. Also check out his band The Big Push for a different and lighter side of Ren. Heaps of videos of him and his band doing covers busking on the street. Definitely go down the Ren rabbit hole.
I e watched a lot of react vids(to this song), and honestly, yours is very refreshing. Very genuine. Very honest. It’s a powerful reaction. Fitting to the power of this song! Loved your upload, thanks.
Jesus, from the laughing at a serious song, to having your phone ring repeatedly, to getting up to make coffee with a lot of noise in the middle of a reaction this was some strange doings. Don’t think I’ll be back again.
Maybe you should be allowing for the fact Wolf my be going through some stuff himself right now. Personally when I first saw Hi Ren it was constantly interrupted by my tears. Be kind folks, it goes a long way.
I'm sorry you feel that way. It was VERY out of character...but also genuine. Wolfman is suffering some very serious ailments, mentally and physically. As we support Ren, I hope you might consider supporting these fine people...who are struggling.
Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. Ren has an amazing ability to express the turmoil what is going on in so many of our heads. He speaks truth. I'd love to hear your thoughts on more of Ren's music, musically as well as otherwise. There are so many deep songs that express the turmoil. Two really positive ones with a message for those struggling with mental or physical illness, check out Humble and Power. But overall you are in for a ride if pure brilliance.

It covers music theory, classical literature, pop culture, psychology,…………layers on top of layers🤯

I think one other person noticed that! What a beautiful thing huh?
I LOVE THAT!!! Huge dog fan, they are so amazing. If you don't believe in God... look at your dog. Lol
Co-Host: "Wow!" Indeed, friend. Indeed.
A genius piece of work. Nice commentary too. There are some us that watch all your videos, and I’m sure you’ll get new viewers with new artists too. Don’t forget, you guys have friends here through CZcams. You definitely do, and we care about Joe too.
Dang it, Kent...I'm already so emotional...and you bring it right home...reminding them why we're all here...
this is a chef-d'oeuvre, master piece. The combination of the set, the music, the lyric, the performance
Everyone can relate to this song, we all experience some of these feeling at some stage in our lives.
this is not fighting or curing mental illness, its about acceptance and coping with the thought processes and handling it in a way to move forward.
❤️❤️❤️
More Ren
❤️❤️❤️
With your knowledge of Ren's music I'm sure you know, but in case you don't, he has a song called "Diazepam". Good luck to you with your struggles. 💜
That's *amazing* news, on your health! Happy to see new folks drop in!
💜
That is devastating news, so sorry to hear. I hope you stay strong and it sounds like this song means as much to you, as to me.
@@ChrisLawton66 Thank you

Thanks for sharing your reaction to this song, Ren is amazing

Yes we are all here for you Jessica - my morning prayers now contain your name! Sue
Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).”
His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great.
@@PoliticallyPink You're so lucky to have had this artist in your life quite some time! The rest of us are blessed w the recent discovery!
@@PoliticallyPink Thanks for the update; I will make the change in my future comments.
So nice to see you appreciating it too.
i was absolutely blown away by this video by Ren, you can feel that he has been there, been amid the turmoil. and hell does that come out in that vid,
warts and all, yes it was a song, unlike anything else i have ever seen, but like others have said , it was a performance,. blew my mind
Great reaction. I recommend The tale of Jenny and Screech (Full) by Ren
...AND THE MORE INTENSE THE LIGHT SHINES
THE DARKER THE SHADOWS IT CASTS!
I'm an old man and I expect lines like that to come from Dylan Lennon Waits.
This young guy is something very special.
Watching Sue being glued immediately, she got the message right away. I watched Wolfman take this experienfe lightly at first then got humbled very quickly and beautifully.
He is so brilliant and how he does it live often in some videos in one take
He bears his soul. Soul recognizes soul, and when it does, it is moved.
The sharing in reaction videos to Ren's repertoire is the very reason I watch them. Thank you! You have made my day better.
You can SEE Wolfman go from laughing with the playfulness of the song at first (as any musician would), then morph into somber appreciation, reflection…then wonder. When I see a man of his experience react like this I KNOW it’s not just me….that’s the magic of Ren. Great reaction 🙏
Thank you so much for your kind words 💜
No shame Wolf, this one hit me like a ton of bricks too
As someone that suffered severe depression for over 38 years now i can only say i can see in both of you that you also got your own heavy demons and just remember, you are only human and suffering is part of us, this hits very hard for all of us that suffer some form of mental illness.
Thank you kind friend 💜💜
Ren...👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💜

Awesome thank you!
"My other half" that's so sweet.
This was a beautiful reaction to watch!
i mean this with only love but you sir do not need no pig head, you sir are doing quite alright already
Prayers going up for you now 💜
There will always be a family for you in the wider community. Deepest apologies for your losses.

*This is more than a song to some this is Hope, hope is everything. REN is a Swiss Army knife of music the one with the fork*
*and the spoon.*
Great reaction! Thanks!
God bless you both
I really did experience that song like no other - amazing!
Great review, that’s not my style of music either. But that LIVE performance is amazing after all the things he’s been through.
That was so cool to watch that curveball hit you right between your eyes!

Sue, you are very beautiful, physically and mentally...and good luck with your boy man. Good reaction....
I've just recently found your channel through Dirt Miller...via Ren, and now I'm backtracking through your videos. It was really powerful getting to watch you guys hear and see Ren for the first time, and I deeply appreciate everything you shared. Wishing you both the best.
💛
each of us can relate to this in our minds, whether its depression, addictions suvh as alcohol, weed, tobacco, vaping, gambling and so on, i have been addicted to weed and cigarrettes since i was 7, now i'm 60 and 8 years post massive stroke, tobacco tells me smoke one it relaxes you, helps curb your appetite, me they are so bad for me they stink my friends hate em, tobacco they'll get over it you're stressed smoke one just 3 a day, me they're 11 bucks a pack i stink and so on ren is genious listening to this is better than any type of therapy i've had save for driving my wrangler into deathvalley national park no substitute for that
So great to hear from you. Yes, we all have addictions for sure! No judgement here. Man, death valley sounds amazing! Be blessed Jeffrey!
That’s why I named him that - the whole Wolfman Jack look 😂
Love you guys. Sue you need angels' wings folded over you. You are a beautiful soul

You won't be sorry doing reaction videos to these songs 👍
❤
Without exaggeration, the best video I have ever seen.
Thx so much Mike - how’s the heart?
@@SueSueandthewolfman You're welcome, Sue, and, thanks for asking. Well, given the circumstances I find myself in at the moment I'm doing reasonably well. I e watched a lot of react vids(to this song), and honestly, yours is very refreshing. Very genuine. Very honest. It’s a powerful reaction. Fitting to the power of this song!
Loved your upload, thanks.
peace and love to you both x
And to you !
Jesus, from the laughing at a serious song, to having your phone ring repeatedly, to getting up to make coffee with a lot of noise in the middle of a reaction this was some strange doings. Don’t think I’ll be back again.
Probably more than not.... he was laughing out of fimiliar thought recognition as a song player. Not out of disrespect for the issues portrayed.
Maybe you should be allowing for the fact Wolf my be going through some stuff himself right now. Personally when I first saw Hi Ren it was constantly interrupted by my tears. Be kind folks, it goes a long way.
It obviously hit him in a different way. Be kind!
Beautiful reaction. What is wolf's channel? Please react to Ren's other songs. Each is so unique. Amazing talent. Chalk Outlines is lovely.
